The shape of the spinner is quite important in classic RC plane.
I think it has a lot of Influence on completeness.
Spinners from the 70s and early 80s.
From the left, pony, ishipla, and modern TY-1 spinners

In this case, modern TY-1 spinners are appropriate.
And It's easy to get.

It's a really beautiful luxury little plane.
The engine and exhaust pipe are completely embedded inside the fuselage, with top turttle & undercowls.
As far as I know, it's the only kit in this 20 class.

My Feedback: (3)
Outstanding build JHMIN!
I had not checked in on this space for some time due to lack of proper hobby time and my shop unfortunately still MIA. I will hopefully get it back in shape over the winter and have it ready to complete some builds.
But who cares about that?! Very nicely executed SM-20. Still my favourite of the small classics along with the Cosmos.
A couple of questions (perhaps a few more actually): Did you get a chance to fly your equally impressive Aurora 25? How did the 35AX perform in the inverted configuration?
I'd love to find an Asano mini TP for my "one of these days" SM-20 build. Do you know where I could source one? How does your VF perform with that MK 9x5 prop and pipe?
Also, please show us some photos of how you installed the radio in the SM. It's a small little model and I sometimes wondered if it would not have been easier to build, manage and fly at the slightly larger scales of the Aurora 25 and Kingfisher 30. Of course, the scale was clearly chosen by MK due to the OS 25VF available at the time.
Cheers, David

Switching gears,
I'm very impressed to see this reference to an MK Arrow 20. I was aware that Hatori made a custom SE header for the Enya 25 for some time designating it for the Arrow 20 but I had never seen any information on an actual model being available. I take it this photo is not a reference to an MK kit. Do you know who designed and/or manufactured this kit? Do you know if it was a wood kit with glass pipe tunnel much like the SM-25 and Arrow 40?
One of the unique things about the Arrow design is its substantial wing area, short wing span but wide chords. Makes for a different looking model aspect ratio. I always thought the ideal engine for an Arrow 25 would also be the 35AX provided a scale similar to that of the Aurora 25. The Arrow 40 on the other hand would be nicely served by either an OS 46SF-P or a YS 45 FR.

Sorry for late reply.
First of all, thank you for remembering my old MK AURORA 25.
The painted version AURORA 25 is not flying, it is just being kept and a new film covered normal version AURORA 25 is being prepared.

It is very important to get parts for this MK SKYMASTER 20. And it's really hard to get SM-20 parts.
The Asano mini TP is not in any stores now and sometimes appear in used markets.
And by the time your "one of these days" SM-20 build begins, the pipe will be available to me. Please contact me then.
And also did you get a HATORY header pipe for the SM-20 ?

Dear David
Even though I have HATORI SE header for Arrow 20, as far as I know, MK didn't get the Arrow 20 kit.
The plane in that picture is a reduced 20 size Arrow referring to a MK Arrow 40 kit from old Japan local hobby shop at the time.
Details of that plane are unknown.

Very nice step by step build log on how you built such a nece, classic kit.Your finish with the Oracover is very nice.

My Feedback: (121)
That is the first reference I have ever seen of an Arrow 20 (and I have quite a few issues of Japanese model magazines). I don’t know why MK never kitted a 20 sized version, I bet it would have been popular. I scratch built 2 Arrow 60s about 40 years ago (I did use the MK fiberglass top deck which Indy R/C sold separately); about 8 pounds each ready to fly less fuel with a painted fuselage and Monokote horizontal surfaces. OS 61VF powered, they flew great. 2 years later I built an MK Arrow 40 for fun. Built almost entirely with CA, Monokoted and powered with an OS 40 VF it was a rocket. I flew it for more than 20 years. I sold the 60 sized Arrows and bought 2 Joker kits for turn around pattern. I loved my Jokers, but wish I had kept the Arrows!
