Stuart, yes I was there. I remember you and Dave L. and Norm S. and George A. and Charie L. from PA and Stan R. also from PA. Many years ago. I came up to the contests with the Maryland guys.

Do you have a scan of the plans?

I checked the original plans for the wood version and it lists the Brushfire as 858 sq inches and 9 1/4 pounds. The length is 58 1/4" give or take due to folds in the paper and the span is 65".
The original article appeared in R/C Model builder in April 1980.
Lets see if the uploaded images are readable.

I'd really forgotten how beautiful the Brushfire was Dan!
UAL - Love the color scheme on that one. Perhaps time for a revival?
All the Brushfires I remember had the pipe mounted on top like yours. Seems like a much better way to go. A bit Arrow-esque with the classic Phoenix lines. You've just gotta love em.
Anyone remember Howard Morin flying his beat up old red one? That kid rocked with his.

That's a great-looking Brushfire and I've about decided to get one from Dan and put
a JETT 'FIRE' in it. In the late 70s and early 80's I flew the Vertigo II with a
Rossi on a pipe....and I loved it. It was clocked at 135 on Highway Patrol radar....no kidding.
Now seems like everyone is flying YAKs, Extras, and Edges.
I want a classic Pattern Plane, and I think this is it.

I saw Wolfgang Matt fly his Super Arrow at the TOC in Las Vegas back around 1977 or so.
This got me thinking about the advantages of the RE engine and keeping the pipe on the centerline.
This enables putting the center-of-drag, the lateral CG, and the center-of-thrust, all on the centerline
of the fuselage. The plane is much more aerodynamically symmetrical.
