I bought this kit and now realize it is of an older style of building, everything is in text vs photo manual [
]
I would like to find on this forum, I have tried without success to locate, a build thread of this kit, not just any kaos knockoff.
If there isn't one then I guess I will be on my lonesome [&o]
I have read the 12 pages or so and would like to see some photos of what the steps should resemble as I begin.
Thanks
Philip

I have an Utter Chaos 40 at home. Unbuild at this time, but I finished up a Kraft Kit 40 Seasons 40. Now it's a high wing aileron trainer, but it was designed by Joe Bridi and the construction techniques are basically the same. Here the link to my build (quite a few photos). [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_5156446/anchors_5156446/mpage_1/key_/anchor/tm.htm#5156446]40 Seasons 40[/link]. I cut the holes for the wing jig in the ribs myself. The kit may have slots for alignment.
The only thing I did not like about the Bridi kit build was sanding in the dihedral in the block in the wing. I would have prefered to build the angle into the wing panels, and have the cut out for the aileron servo in the ribs. It was a b*tch to have to carve out a rectangular slot for the aileron servo into the two center ribs and the center block after fibreglassing the wing.

Tape a piece of ply with a rectangular opening the size of the servo on the center section of the wing and route away.Almost all the Bridi Kaos designs are built the same way. Usually a thick slab fuselage top which is pinned down on the board; the fuselage is then built upside down onto the slab top.
As Jim said, a wing jig (the Great Planes jig is about $19) is great for building the symmetrical wing halves.
They are very straightforward, but if you start a build thread people here can guide you through it.

Even with the "Ukrainian Tire" (Canadian Tire) made in China - Dremel copy - it is not a pleasant experience.
I agree with Dave, start a build thread to get some help. Actually at home I have some photos from the Koas 40 build in an old issue of RCM. It's similar to the Utter Choas build. I'll scan and post those after.

That's what Dremel tool plunge router bits are for.

I would appreciate seeing the photos ahead of time to try and get a 3D view of what all these pages of test will build up to. I am almost finished with a Sig 4*60 balsa work, but have not built from text vs photo guide. TIA

Help is on the way. Here I come to save the day!!! That was the nice thing about the pre-arfs. As a teenager I studied the plans in the magazines. Great way of learning how to build. Didn't need this step by step photo, laser cut plane kits.

I got the email with the pics and they will help me study my moves before the xacto goes ripping into the unsuspecting balsa
If anyone out there in RCUland has any articles etc that would help please help my balsa out by speaking up the kit seems to trimble when I open the box and look inside!

I am nearly finished building a Bridi Utter Chaos right now. Everything is pretty much ready to cover. Just take your time and be sure that you follow the steps. I used a jig for building the wing and I also cut lightening holes in the spars. The wingtips are solid balsa and I hollowed thos out. I set it up with 2 servos for the ailerons so that I could utilize flaperons. Let me know if I can help you. [8D]

Winglift,
I haved a new set of plans from RCm for the Dirty Birdi. What kind of a wing jig did you use to build your wing?
Thank you

Adjusto-jig. Sweet. I've missed many of these on Ebay. Whatever happened to the owners of the product. Seem like it would still be in demand.

I used the Adjusto-Jig which is no longer made. My wing for the Utter Chaos is true and straight. What is nice about this system is you align everything up prior to gluing. I see them for sale on eBay once in a while, but there are other systems out there for building wings.

Hi Skip
Hope your ThanksGiving went well.
The help I need is articles, pictures of Kaos builds in the "bones" so I can get an idea of what the text is trying to convey to me in the built up view. I am used to building with booklets showing step by step the built item and now the BJ kit is in text only and I need help to visualize what it looks like so I don't mess up and ruin the balsa parts.
Thanks email me at [email protected] with any articles and photos of your builds would be very helpful

Read through Raindave's UFO build for help, he did a beautiful job (on the aircraft and the thread) and it is close enough to your Kaos that you should get the idea.

So are you going to show us you build as you go Philip? I'm sure a lot of folks here would enjoy and benifit from it, I know I would.
Jim, I missed the build article in mags the most. I also would study every plan featured in a mag over and over... Unfortunatly reviews are left to mainly to arfs. I guess thats ok in it's own right. We difinatly have more people involved in the hobby now than say 20 yrs ago.... Now if we could just get them to build

That is a great build, more than I plan to do when I can get this 4*60 off my bench I am having a devil of a time getting the elevators to lineup with the wire connector. I am ordering a new set of wood and wire on Monday from Sig, trashed my first attempt.
Thanks for the support and help.

I am in the same place You are iluvflying, only I have not order for the very reasion that there is no pictures in the instructions. I am one of those who seem to do better with the Great Planes or better yet Sig, type instructions with lots of photos. I loved the Four Star 60 build that I did last year. Lazer cutting and everything fits so good, even without any glue. Great. I would love to build a Utter Kaos 60 by Blue Jay. Just not sure I could get it figured out. I would also like to build a Giant Stinger by Lanier. Here again no pictures and poor instructions. Just not sure I could get it figured out.
Thats what is so great about this hobby and RCU. The people are so willing to help.
See You at the field,
john.

John, if I were you, I would buy the Blue Jay kit now and have it on hand for when you are ready to build, this is what I did. They run out and then perhaps it will take awhile to restock or they might decide to stop kitting it.
How does you 4* fly? Does it nose up on landing in grass?

In My opinion the Four Star 60 Fly's much better than the 40. They don't land anything alike. I don't have the bounce with the 60 that I had with the 40 size. I added 1/2" to the rudder and moved the canopy 1" froward. I played with the ballance a little and Mine will knife edges one handed. It is something to see that 71" wing on knife edge going around the field. I ended up moveing the cg forward 1/2" to get it to knife edge like that.
You will love the 60.
john
P.S I think You are right on ordering the kit before there gone.

Philip,
Here's a couple of pics on how I built my Bridi Utter Chaos wing.
I purchased an 8 foot section of aluminum angle stock from Menards. I cut it in two 4 foot sections and used the angle stock to align the cutouts that were already in the ribs.
If you just follow the steps and study the plans, you should be ok.
I also included a finished picture of the airplane.
Scott.
