Well this is a red letter day for me. Both designers of two
of my favorite aircrafts on the same thread. My hat is off
to you gentlemen for coming up with two slick looking
designs. Thanks for your input.

Geoff, Chuck was right about that can of worms. If
possible, I would like a copy of all three please. I have
a LA-1 kit on hold.

Thanks,
Ron

Yo Chuck,

Precision Aero Composites bought the R/C City molds/business from Jim Graham years ago. Geoff Combs had R/C City kit his planes, but I don't know if PAC got the LA2 molds or not because Geoff was marketing the LA2 under his own company AeroSport Products.

I believe PAC sold some of the molds such as the LA1 to the Aztec Air guy, but I'm not certain. Check with PAC, but they changed their company name and I can't remember it (playin' the grey hair card again}, maybe someone can jump in with the new name. That's where I would look first unless someone knows for sure.

Gene

P.S. I haven't forgotten those exploded Hanno views, I'll send em soon.
Thank You Gene for the great info (all your posts) but especially this one...

No hurry on the Hanno Views and Thanks for the follow through!! They will be nice to have...

Mike:

I found this picture in my file of an LA-1 that was yours. Was this one of the original ones.

Ed Kirtley
Well thats cool! My dad has a bunch of photos of my airplanes from that era in a photo album somewhere. It was all way pre-digital cameras so I dont have any.

I believe the one in the pic was one of the last 2 LA-1s I owned. I had a pair or very lightweight ones. I believe it had a Challenge 3 or 4 stab in it. Always experimenting, I dont think it did anything.
Geoff painted that one, and come to think of it I think he painted all 5 LA-1s I had, but that one and its twin were the nicest looking of all of them. They are the two than ended up in Mexico.

Hey guys I can get plans for I know for sure the LA-2, SL-1 and Sl-1a. I need to check for the LA-1. If interested give me a call at 614-834-5227 or email me at
[email protected]

These plans were for the glass kits. I will have to look for the old wood La-1 with glass top.

Thanks Geoff

Hey all you LA Aircraft Experts...A fellow on another forum was trying to ID this plane...I was thinking an LA-1?? Since I've never really seen one in person I wasn't 100% positive...It has a 1 piece sheeted wing, Glass Fuse and a OS RF engine...

All the really decent photos I have are of the LA-2...With the pics I've seen of the LA-2 it doesn't appear to have that extended "dorsal fin" (or whatever you call it) that I see in these photos...All the photos I have of the LA-1 are not good enough to see that much detail...Otherwise I was thinkin' it looked it could be an LA-1..

Thanks Allot for the Help...

Chuck

Hi everyone,

I have what I belive to be an LA-1 that I traded for a while back. I would like to see what you guys think about it. Navav2002 suggested I post pic's of it here to see if you guys feel that it's an LA-1 like he does. From the photos I've seen so far I feel that it's an LA-1 as well.

Thanks for looking, Jeff

I believe that it is an LA-1 If it has the 1 piece wing and no hatch. I had two of these back in the 90 's and they were a great plane. I'm on the list with AztecAir for when he comes back in late spring. I have a new in the box Hanno ready to put in it.

Looks like an LA-1 fuse for sure. From the angle of the photos the wing looks like it has a straight TE or is even slightly swept though. Best guess from the pics, its an LA-1 fuse with a different wing and possibly stab.

Hi,

It has a straight trailing edge on both the wing and stab. The stab is removable and has adjustable incidence.

Thanks, Jeff

Maybe an LA-2 wing and stab or could be something else??? The wing tip shape is from the Desire, though the Desire had a slightly swept back trailing edge. Perpaps the builder just cut the root angle of the LA-1 wing and stab to straighten the TE???

After looking closer I think this is actully is a LA-1. The LA-2 did not have the strake coming forward off the v-fin. And the wing fillet on the 2 is different.

Hi Mr. Combs,

I'm glad that I've found out what it is. It's a really nice looking plane and I'm sure I'll enjoy flying it. I'd like to thank everyone for the help in identifying it! I haven't owned a plane like this in a while. It will be a welcome change from all the 3D and sport stuff I've been flying over the past several years. Thanks again to everyone!!

The Desire 60 was a great design. I would like to have a set of those plans and build one for Classic Pattern.

Yeah you can still get the plans...I'll try and fine that link and post it here for you...I think you can get wing/stab cores from Eureka...I was thinkin' about splashing the chin cowl and turtledeck so we didn't loose the glass parts but haven't done it...If someone would be interested in building one I could put it on the list of things to do but it will be a while...

Well I thought they were still available...The Flying Models magazine's plans service doesn't seem to list the Desire anymore?? Hummm...

No problem..I have a copy of the print...

cool thanks, I built it different from the plans, I flipped the header and built a pipe tunnel and ran the pipe under the fuse instead of in it, that worked and until a mid-air at a contest it flew great

where did you get a pic of my Desire?
In my basement about 1 min ago...lol

I bought this off a guy in Suwanee, GA...He said allot of guys in the southeast flew the Desire...He was apparently pretty into pattern for a while and flew a couple of Desire's one of which he got from Ron VanPutte...He said this mod was pretty popular...

He did a beautiful job to this point in construction!! It is sooo light...The wings are feathers...

I got a Hanno and Bolly pipe with an articulated header to go in it...The Hanno has a "Pink Head"...lol

I'm sooo looking forward to it...
