Looks like we're getting close for a run of Hanno parts. Since I doubt we'll get orders for the YS AR parts, I'll take 2 more OS sets for a total of 5.

Thank you navav2002. I'll pull it out of the plane sometime soon and see what is installed. I do know that with the exception of Perf. Spec. I am the only person that ha handled this engine outside of a model.

Are we talking Hanno sleeves/pistons and or RF 61 pumped style? I could be counted in for a set on the RF series.

Roary, These are to replace the sleeve/piston on the OS 61RF-P "Hanno Special" motors. They will work with the 61 RF, but they do differ by means of a higher exhaust timing in them (which the long stroke Hanno used). These are NOT the OS replacement parts but rather after-market parts made by Henry Nelson. They will be an Aluminum piston and a chrome plated aluminum cylinder liner (AAC) instead of the OS ABN set. And if you have every heard of Nelson engines, then you know that these will be pretty much the best sets you can buy. Or wait, we cant even buy These yet... Gotta persued Henry to help us. Which, lucky for us, isn't a hard thing to do.
I hope this is clear. If it is we'll add you onto our list.

Hey DM/Aurora 60 - do we have a distributor yet? or do we still need one?
Thanks,

Not trying to create any problems with this question/request...I feel Extremely Happy we've come this far!!

But I was wondering if it would be possible to get Wrist Pins done too??

I've been cleaning my existing wrist pins up with 600g sandpaper which has worked out fine...But I'd absolutely prefer to replace them with new ones if they were available!! In reality I don't think the wrist pin really wears all that much...I believe the brass inserts in the connecting rods are the sacrificial part...

I had searched and searched the world wide web and came up dry for OS 61 wrist pins...

The Hanno Piston & Liners are already "The Icing on the Cake" ....Wrist Pins would be "The Cherry on Top" ...

Thanks Ya'll

Chuck, Henry told me that any OS 61 pin would do, as they have the same dia. You may have to cuat a new one down but he says thats no big deal. What you want to look at is the Crank. The crank pin will taper with wear. Henry was trying to cross reference the cranks for us but had no luck. He says they maybe out there.. just gotta find which one.

Hi Chuck, I agree- and though I'm not an engine expert- always experienced rod wear before wrist pins and crankpins. There used to be a company called RPM that offered stronger bar stock rods (not sure of material) for high performance engines. Is there a source for replacement OS .61 rods today?

Here ya go Jeff:
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXCF50&P=7

I have been checking my crank pin's as I've had each engine apart and they all seem very consistent...I have seen a couple of oblong'ed (sp?) connecting rod bushings...But no significant wear either the wrist or crank pins...I just like to replace stuff like wrist pins during a re-build "Just to do it"...I really feel the originals are fine...

David:
The YS's are New...
The Large Bearing RF-P is New..
The Hanno and Small Bearing RF-P are both used fixer-uppers..I refer to that particular Hanno as "My Pink Head Hanno" ...She's got allot of time on her from the previous owner...Now she's all spruced up and hopefully there are several more hours left...She's going in my Desire...

Chuck...

I ordered the 61FX piston pins and Henry is correct, same diameter and a little longer. Get the dremel out and shorten it and it will work.

Hey all. The piston pins between the SF and RF are definitly different. As far as piston pins are concerned the difference occurs becauce the piston pin on Rear Exhausts is exposed at he exhaust port, during the intake stroke of the engine. Because of this all REAR exhaust (VF, RF and RX) piston pins are Not hollow, see pics. If you use a side exhaust piston pin it's likely you will be losing a significant portion of intake charge as the hollow type will vent straight though the pin to the exhaust port as the piston comes down.

Here's some useless info I compiled of current and past OS piston pins with OS part numbers.

Os Max 61 piston pins and OS PN's

Side Exhaust (Hollow)
61 FSR 26606008
61 SF 27706000 (not as long as FSR or SX)
61 SX 26606008

Rear Exhaust (Not Hollow)
61 VF 27106007
61 RF 27806000 (not as long as VF or RF)
61 RX 27106007

Buy the RX piston pin if you don't want drive your self crazy wondering why your brand new rebuilt 61 RF, with its new AAC piston and sleeve, doesn't run right.

First pic from left is a 61 FSR (can see right thru it). Second is from a 61 RF. Third pic is why the Rear Exhausts' need to have a plugged piston pin. The forth pic, just got one from Omni Models .

Almost forgot, you will still need to grind down the RX pin to fit he smaller bore of the Hanno's and RF's.

Excellent Bryan!!! You Da Man!!

I knew they couldn't be hollow...I had no idea which ones were and weren't...Nor a line on some part numbers...Excellent!!

Here is a link to them on Towers Website - note: Out of Stock till Late April... (I have 5 on B/O)

Am interested in a piston/sleeve comb. for the 61 RF-P; Didn't know the Hanno version would work, I figured the port timing was a bit different.

The porting on the Hanno is a little more agressive, but it will work on the RF-P with minimal fuss.

There are 'pledges' for 42. Earlier it was mentioned that maybe 40 sets would be enough to go ahead. Wasn't it? I'm still here for 3 sets. What kinda lead time does Nelson need?
