RE: Putting together Classic Pattern Plane list
Will,
Woohoo! Thanks for the additions. I was hoping for some input on the cut-off date. I asked for suggestions in post #1, but there haven't been any responses. Surely, there are some opinions out there on this matter. Wolfgang Matt and H. Nishioka's Opal and Opal II are the latest planes on the list, designed in 1995 and 1996 respectively. I have yet to post the images in the image-base because they do look more modern than classic.
Do you have any specs for the planes you submitted?
Thanks again!

RE: Putting together Classic Pattern Plane list
Ok. I updated the [link=http://www.trentonrcflyers.com/pattern/classicpatternlist.htm]Classic Pattern Plane list[/link] with 9 additional columns. I'm having a little trouble getting the data to display as I would like and I had to get rid of the images on the right to make room. I saved the spreadsheet as html and added it to the page, but it will be an administrative challenge to maintain. I have to find a better way. It displays properly with Internet Explorer but not with Mozilla Firefox. Not too many people use it, so its not urgent that I fix it. Firefox is considerably less susceptible to spyware attacks.
Thanks

i haven't used IE in years. not only is mozilla less susceptible to spyware but no popup ads. i just like mozilla better. although bill gates is paying for my brother to attend cambridge in england, you'd think there would be some loyalty there. i rarely have to deal with compatibility problems with mozilla like what you mentioned above.

Hi CaSniffer,
I will provide as much data as I can find, any designs (that I know of) not on your list and any information I have on other designs.
As for a cut-off date... Maybe you should make it a listing of every design up to the present (which means it will need to be updated periodically). There's no other place to go for this information. Also, it is easier to add current designs since the information is more readily available.
Just a thought

RE: Putting together Classic Pattern Plane list
Do you recognize this plane ( the yellow one)? I was told it was a Royal "The Cherry". We are trying to get the correct name ( if not "The Cherry") so we can try to locate one.
Also, the blue and yellow The Nobler. Probably by Royal as well.
Thanks Patsy

The Nobler kits, both control line and R/C, were designed by George Aldrich and kitted by Top Flite. Top Flite was bought by Great Planes who also kitted both versions.

16 existing planes were updated with specs and 7 new planes were added to the Classic Pattern Plane list. The updates are in red and additions are in blue. One new set of Curare instructions from RMC&E and an article written by Hal deBolt were added to the Instructions-Articles-Plans page.

crankpin and jerry,
Thanks for the information. Crankpin, your Phoenix closely resembles your Intruders. I guess that is your signature color scheme. I like.

RE: Putting together Classic Pattern Plane list
I was digging thru an old album tonight looking for pictures for another guy when I found these. They were taken at Iron Run, PA (between Allentown and Fogelsville) at what my notes say was an LVRCS meet in 1976. Somehow it doesn't seem quite right, but I thought folks might enjoy a few old pix of some nice planes.

A 110. I did my own processing back then, too. On some of my old prints you can see what happens over time if you don't leave them in the fixer long enough, or don't wash them thoroughly. These are still pretty clean.
The plane in the top photo looks like a Kaos. What's the one in the lower photo?

The plane in the lower photo appears to be a Phoenix. Not sure which one, though. There were quite a few.

Casniffer,
Really great job/effort assembling the items for the website.
Have you considered (would you consider) adding a "Classic Engines" section of your fine site? I could make (really should anyway) a donation to the cause as well.
Personally, I am very confused about the Webra lineage, the Enya lineage...
Maybe even a "Classic Accessories" section for the Kraft wheels, Mac's mufflers, engine mounts, retracts, spinners, cool props, radio gear?
Thank you,

Additional info on the Stormex (Actually the Storm EX). Designed by Bryan Hebert. Engines: .61 2-stroke or .91 - 1.20 4-stroke (on the 4-S version). Not sure what year he designed it, plus it went through several permutations.

RE: Putting together Classic Pattern Plane list
BERUSTY,
That is a great idea! I would be happy to start another page(s) with "classic" engine information. In the next few days and definitely by the weekend, I will at least have started on the page. Contributions with regards to content will be important. I will be happy do some research once a list is started.
Please post engine information here, PM me or contact me via the guestbook link on the Classic Pattern site.
Thanks for the suggestion. I will make sure it happens.

RE: Putting together Classic Pattern Plane list
CAsniffer,
Great!
How about having the Trenton site also post the "Classic Pattern-Trader"? It seems to me it would be a good fit...classic airplane stuff and a newsletter dedicated to learning about, sourcing and price discovery as well as the engine, set-up and trimming, construction, installation and finishing articles...the newsletter may have visitors return a few more times...seeing that "Ok to contribute sign"...
I like the idea and would be honored for the consideration. The first issue is waiting for the first collection of items to arrive to make it special. Categories may include:
"Classic Collector" rare, complete esoteric items, which may have MK, Bridi, Hanno stuff,
"Classic Consumer" toys to be enjoyed not saved...mostly kits
"Classic Values" consisting of below market price discoveries
"Classic Bling" engine mounts, spinners, Kraft wheels, retracts
"Classic Power" yep, engines, mufflers, headers and pipes
"Classic Prints" ...unauthorized copies of prints, full size on paper, not a value but convenient.
"The Holy Grail" A completely unauthorized copy of the "RCM Anthology Flight Training II"
"Classic Connections" Deep, very complete private colletions of NIB Rossi, YS engines and parts
"Classic Capitalism" yes, commercial enterprises offering extra special service for those classically minded
All the above for absolutely FREE! Based on the simple notion "If you help enough people get what they want, you can have anything that you want." Zig Ziglar
