If you need a header custom made to your special arrangement, go to this address

www.zimmermannschalldaempfer.de

I have several times used this service. Excellent quality, fast, resonable price. See example for inline header

No one should be ashamed about our nice hobby and our precious planes! Most important is that flying and building stays fun.
Enjoy your Kosmo, and let us know hoe it flies.

Delays, delays - have to be more patient until maiden flight.....

1) The nose gear wheel strut broke as I tried to tighten the hex screw which holds the spring. New has been ordered and installed, but is of much more poor quality as the old one (lot of tolerance...) May have to make my own one from billet aluminum bar. See pic for broken strut detail. Cast aluminum shows quite coarse grain....

2) More severe: The Rossi FIRE made a final test run in my garden, but sounded like a diesel direct injection engine - klak klak klak - way too much tolerance in the lower conrod bushing! At this time I ran first time synthetic oil in that engine, on the former test run with castor oil this didn´t become obvious. The sick Rossi is now at a good friend for receiving a new bronce bushing to the lower conrod eye....

more later!

my kosmo flew.............. very, very well... it is now equipped with an ops 60, as the ys was difficult to tune..
i ve installed a spring air gear, instead of the ****ty chinèse one...
the spring air is perfect, and the legs have never been bend landings after landings...
the plane is really neutral, flies straight...
On my opinion, the curare is a bit better, easier and more comfortable, but not much...
the secret for pattern... a good landing gear and a powerful fiable engine.... this way, you can practice with no troubles...
I m am very satified with my kosmo, i ve made a good buy whith the 150 dollars kit,
to tell you the truth, i m proud of it.....

Hello Speed-panzer,

Oeps, that landinggear does not look good.
I new it was not the best quality, but this is really bad.
I think i will start looking for a better option.

Sorry about your Rossi!
Are parts available for these engines?

Succes, and let us now when your back on track!

Regards,
Gert

Hello Daggets,

Congratulations on your first flight!!!

I hope you will have a lot of fun with the Kosmo!

How do you like the OPS 60?

I also plan to use this engine, is it powerful enough?

And don't forget, whenever you have some action pictures of the Kosmo then show them to us!

Regards and greetings,

Gert

the ops side exhaust i have is really powerful... a little less rpm than the ys but more torque on the verticals...
the ops is easy to tune too... it is very similar to the rossi, exept for the drawer carb.
and it never stalls, which have some importance on such an aircraft....

The Rossi has been repared, a new bushing was installed in the lower conrod eye.

BUT - there was a big surprise waiting upon disassembly of that Rossi - the main ball bearing was missing a ball !!!! and 3 of the remaining balls show severe spalling. Still can´t beleive one ball has completely dissappeared.
Has anybody else encoutered this? I have tried to do some photos of that ball bearing, I think you can see the spalling quite well. So much for engines which are offered "as new condition, unrun" on E**Y.
What will the reason be for blowing out a ball, and such severe damage to that bearing? Heavy knocking? Unbalanced prop? Besides of that, the Rossi looks very well, has a like new strong compression and does show only minimal signs of rust on the crankshaft.
Please share your experiences....

Good news about the broken nose landing gear, it has been replaced by a new one. We will see how Ã*t behaves in flight.

Now I have to wait for the right weather to maiden the Kosmo!

Nice home made rear engine mount. I like the idea. How effective is it?

It is simple, very leightweight and can be adjusted to the needs of every individual plane firewall, engine, nose gear etc. I am using the same kind on a OS .61 RF-P, the Al-Plate has just a hole in its center to make room for the pump. I have come down to 1,5mm thickness of the Al-plate, earlier I made it 3mm but that is just oversized for a .61-engine.

The Kosmo did a great maiden flight today, nothing to report about. Very few trim clicks needed on elevator up, since the ship is still little bit on the nose heavy side. Lost one out of 3 small screws which hold the engine cowl, put a little larger in. Then made 2 more flights. The landing gear has worked flawlessly so far and the plane really sticks to the grass field once it has touched down, the spring system works fine. It has always been a small challenge on our field to do a landing on east wind, since the field has quite some downhill slope that direction. But everything is fine, the Rossi pulls strongly and runs very well, still little rich. The throttle response is instant, very cool. The Kosmoreally goes the ballistic way which I like so much.

Regards from germany!

That's one sweet looking bird! Congrats!

It reminds me of a mach none which I covered in a very similar scheme some 25 years ago. Ekonokote directly onto everything - foam, plastic, wood. It worked. I'd like to build a couple more of those little birds with outrunners.

David.

Speed Panzer,

Classic Pattern Flying, I am looking in my pictures

Dutch Classic Pattern Flying airport Leeuwarden.

Picture: I am preparing the Plane for a flight, in the centre of the picture
You can see several other planes. Date 1970?

So, recognize planes? Not mine, own design.

Picture 2 enlarged of the first picture
Picture 3 The USA was there, Leeuwarden Airforce Base!

That one here could be a Robbe Mäxi. Maybe the very first plane in the foreground on your 1st picture is also a Mäxi.
That plane was available as a fully wood built up construction (could be the one in the foreground) and it was available with GFRP fuse (could be the one I marked red)
I will try to scan old catalog pics and post it.
Always loved this Mäxi plane - never got a kit - still looking for one!

Speed Panzer,

You are right Robbe Mäxi with your arrow.
What you say, "Maybe the very first plane in the foreground on your 1st picture is also a Mäxi." I think you are not correct, but we will hear soon I hope.
The "USA" plane is that a Cutlass? Crusader?
To be honest, I do not know all other models and forget the names, only never the "Taurus".
Why I know that Mäxi? Wait.

Here we are again, second picture of the Mäxi on my "nephew picture", right side.
That Mäxi was of a friend of my in the period we did fly Pattern. Construction "all wood".

Cees

Hello Taurus Flyer,

found these pictures in the old 1974 Robbe catalogue.Still whish I would find a Mäxi kit....

Yes the plane in the foreground may have to high fuselage sidewall, it is no Mäxi. Did you page through the classic pattern plane pages? This is so huge amount of images meanwhile, it takes a little time...
