Hi, his name was Bruno Giezendanner and he was World Champion in 1969 and in 1971 with his Marabu ( very simple design but with retracts)
Later flews with his Salamandra lead to a disaster: variable geometry wings was for sure one of the causes.
I think I should have some article scans about his two models somewhere and could publish here if someone shows interest.
Happy Landings!

Yes I followed his progress while I was building his plane which was kitted by a Japan manufacturer. I just can not remember which manufacturer. I love the simple design. It has a progressive airfoil wing.
It will be nice to read more about his designs.

Hi,
About the progression of Kato's "Thunderbird":
Masahiro Kato (MK Models) and Susuke Kato (probably the brother?) both flew "Super Thunderbird" planes at the 1965 World Championship RC1 (F3A) in Sweden, Ljungbyhed. Photos below is from Classicpattern.com
I do not know if MK made a kit of the "Super Thunderbird".
But it was a rather light model, in the model list at 1965 WC, M. Katos model was listed at 2.92 kg and S. Katos model at 2.96 kg. Most model was between 3-3.5 kg at this WC.
They both used Super Tigre 60 egine and Orbit Proportional radio.
Photos below of Super Thunderbird.

When a plan has blue background with white lines (blueprint) like the MK Super Tiger 3 plan it must be a rather old plan/plane I guess.
Not sure when use of blueprints died out but one seldom see any drawing from 1960s in blueprint, perhaps this MK Super Tiger 3 is from early 60s?
I believe Kato Model Aircraft Co Ltd that made MK kits (MK=Masahiro Kato) etc was founded in late 1950s or early 1960s? The boy on the kitbox seems to have a reed radio in his hands (almost looks like an Orbit Reed, notice the bowed "logo" on the TX, Orbit Reed had that in 1962 and some years later) so probably the Tiger 3 is from the rearly to mid 1960s? At least in 1962, when Masahiro Kato competed at World Championships RC-1 (F3A) he had MK decals on his transportation box for his plane(s) I have seen on a color video from that WC, so he had brand MK in use already at that time.
