1980 TOC Laser 200 by Ulery
Wayne Ulery designed a couple of Laser 200's for the 1978 and 1980 TOC piloted by Dean Koger. I believe the model was published in Model Airplane News or Model Aviation or Model Builder?
If enough information can be gathered this could be another project for my elves. I know that Mr. Godfrey created a version and Lanier created a version...we need a really light version.
Photo is courtesy of "neilmac52", a pal of RFJ (the official RCU Classic Pattern Historian) from across the pond. It looks like neilmac52 is posting personal photos...

Hi Rusty I am very pleased that you like my photo:s They have been siting in an album for nearly 30 years ,i just wish i had more Is the dark blue laser of Dave Brown the same desine or Dave:s own desine ? I remeber seeing it striped down ,,the two pice wing the joiners were only a ply box with a ply joiner ..not like todays ally tubes but then model aircraft were not powerd by 50 cc / 100 cc Gas engines,,
Are there any plans out there for this model or has anybody got a kit ?
I do have somewere an EAA Sport Aviation mag with deatals of the ful size aircraft and the Repla-Tech 3 views for Leo Loudensagers blue aircraft..
Lastly what is this about classic TOC comp when an where ?

Model Airplane News had an article / plan for a geared .90 Laser 200 designed by Wanye Ulrey and flown by Don Lowe. Plan # FSP07791 @ the RC Store. It is an 86 inch span. Fiberglass parts were available. I knew a few guys who modified them for the ST 3000's. They flew well. I have the plans and intend to do one with an OPS Maxi 30 when time permits. This one is a great design, but maybe smaller than the ones your describing.
If I'm not mistaken, the design used for the Lanier offerings were from Bob Godfrey. The Lanier does build heavy. Godfrey had several larger TOC Laser 200's before the bipe bonus stopped the Laser contest. I don't know if any of these had published articles / plans. They were the ones that really got popular.

the Repla-Tech 3 views for Leo Loudensagers blue aircraft..
I built one from the MAN plan years ago with an OS BGX. Great flier and well worth reviving. Still have the plans (somewhere)

I have one of them. Purchased as a built in the bones kit. Actually tried to sell it as it is just taking up room but no takers as I am not going to ship it. Good looking plane though. This one had been way under powered with a Webra bully 35cc glow engine. Also have the smaller 1/4 scale 60 sized version from the same time period. The pilot has got to go though, looks like a 1/7th scale WW2 fighter pilot

MK Laser- One of my pals (local) has one. I have the Akromaster, have had the Chipmunk and assume the laser is similar. Perfect for the generation #1 of the YS 1.20.
Fiberglass Specialties- They do still provide the parts and make them as needed. I have a set ordered.
Update- Rusty's elf "Master Foamy" already has a set of plans and other sundry parts...he is quite interested. Original models are around and may be able to be photographed. This is a Fall 2010 target completion for all the stuff.
2010 Toledo visitors...I will be roaming the show floor on Friday and Saturday with my pal Dave Guerin. We will be ETOC judges Friday and Saturday evening so please say hello!

I have all the Zimpro (Dennis Hunt) molds for there laser 200
Here are the specs

I was never a fan of 'glass fuse Lasers. Of course, I like my Scale Aerobatic planes to look like their full scale counterparts, ie tube and rag = stingers and monocote/ultracote. I truly hate the way current IMAC sequence planes look these days. Huge control surfaces, stretched here and there...
That being said, I do love the Laser 200.

I still have one of three that we jig built assembly line style back in the mid 80's. It hasn't flown in 10 years but is still in very good condition. Power is ST2500 with the OS carb. It was the first plane that I ever flew that went were you pointed it thanks to a superb JR PCM 10 and coreless BB servos. I spoke to Wayne a few years back at Toledo when he was in QQ's booth and I told him how much I enjoyed the plane and what a epifiney it was to me to have such such a wonderful flying plane in my life/modeling career. Needless to say it was a moving moment for both of us.

I received the Fiberglass Specialties parts from Craig and they are of excellent quality.
The plans from Model Airplane News arrived also. Like the last order...I ordered (2) sets and they send one and I have to call them to send the second.
Master Foamy and Master Laser will have the least amount of work of the three "Rusty's Elves Kits". If anyone has a Cline or Master Climb gear drive sitting around I would like to borrow/buy it to make a few copies.

OK, I got to build this one. I've had the plans in the attic for years, just ordered the FG parts last week. Will there be a 2 piece wing with tube version? Electric option? When will the "elves" have stuff available? Put me on the list! Can't wait!

The elves will be doing this model. The wing construction will be updated for a wing tube probably 30mm PBG. Wayne's original foam rib design is very cool, tons of work and will not be done by the elves.
Rusty's version- Based on my battery records, I have about 450 FAI "E" flights since 2007...love it, love it, love it! The best thing is that I can take-off at 6:00AM and leverages my precious little time. If I cannot find an original belt drive to have copied, my initial version will be "E". I will probably use the Great Planes Rimfire 160 and the Silver Series 80 amp speed control as it is a reliable, easily accessible via Tower.
The glow version could have a Super Tigre 3250, OS BGX-1, OPS 30 or the Webra 90 and belt drive per the original. The 12 pound model doesn't need to hover so it will be just fine with the above.

Unfortunately no [&o] After I built my version a "friend" borrowed the plan and the magazine but never returned either. At least I had made a copy of the plan ,which I still have, but no MAN for July 1979.

this has got to be getting into the 32 oz of nitro per flight - that's one quart or 1 liter of fuel - serious pocketbook stuff. While these glow engines are really cool, it's hard to justify a liter of glow per flight in this day and age.
Clearly, the logical options are either gas or electric. With ~3000W at about a minimum of $100 for the motor and a ~$120 12s setup this puppy could do wonders. The cost of lipos these days throws glow fuel a hard punch especially at the small and large scales. With the latter, the limiting factor is the cost and features of the ESC.
Alternatively, a ZDZ 40 might fit nicely in the nose - not sure.

Thank you for posting the MAN construction article. Brought back a lot of memories and might ever make me dig out the plan and build another one. It really was a fine flying model especially if kept light. I always regretted selling it especially when the new owner spun it into the ground - ten turn spin from nine turn altitude [&o]

If anyone want to see AHS manufacturing Las Vegas Laser 200 (72 inch wingspan) 1/4 scale kit and a Lanier RC 1/4 scale Laser 200 kit You can if you search the famous auction site. I saved the pictures and text for reference. I thought it might be of interest in this thread.

Picture of MK TOC Laser 200 below (there is also a non TOC MKLaser 200 for 120 4-stroke, I have it).
I know where it is possible to buy one new in box unbuilt TOC MKLaser 200(but rather expensive and box is huge).
