Default EZ Beat On 50 engine suggestions

I just acquired a EZ Beat On 50 pattern plane and was looking for some building tips and engine suggestions?

I have one that I flew with a OS 40VF on a pipe. It had plenty of power but never ran like I'd like it to. I think it was in need of a pump but the plane was a blast to fly. Very solid!!!
It's been probably 10 years since I built mine but I remember it being east and straight forward. I did put retracts in mine, Great Planes .40 size fit perfect.

EZ Beat-On...

Winglift- I had a YS 53 4-cycle in mine...very fine little airplane. I built it stock with the EZ retracts and flew it about 20 times before selling it.

Been considering purchasing one for some time. They are a little overpriced to my taste but it is a nice looking model!

I always thought a 32 SX or 35 AX on a pipe would do well but if the performance with a 40 VF was reasonable, it might be a little underpowered with a 32 SX. The 53 FS was probably a nice powerplant.

I have a YS 63, do you think it would be too much?

Doubt it. I think the issue would have more to do with weight. 4 strokes are heavy and the YS 63 might give you some balancing problems. Still, if it fits, you can probably make it work by locating the equipment where needed.

I wonder how the EZ Beat On 50 compares to the Koysho Oxalys 50 in size, weight, wingspan and so on?? I know (according to a thread on the Oxalys) that allot of guys put a YS 63 on that plane...

I have an Oxalys 50 with a YS 45 two stroke and Hatori pipe turning a 12x6 APC prop...I can make it through the Intermediate (402) schedule with some "power management" (eg. I have to come on earlier and harder with the power than you would with the 4 stroke)...I got the grunt to do everything pretty well if I don't miss the power application...If I'm late on applying power..it's over and I'll run out of energy and have to make the maneuver smaller than it should be...

-But-

I just switched to a 13x4 APC prop and I think that may be the ticket...I think this may have helped my vertical authority a bit...I only have one or two flights but from what I can tell so far it seems to be substantially better than the 12x6...

CG is a concern with the YS 63 on the Oxalys...I know guys said they were winding up nose heavy when using a Hyde mount and YS 63 combo on that plane...Apparently they flew wonderfully though...So it's nothing you cant overcome with some "planning" during construction and you may still have to add some lead to the tail...You will have enough power so you don't have to worry about a little lead...I actually bought a YS 63 for my Oxalys but decided to save it for another plane (Osmose 70) and put the YS 45 on the Oxalys...

Here is a link to the Oxalys which is what I have for comparison:

Just my .02...

Good info Chuck.

Here's a thread I started on the Beat On some time ago. It has some info on how various models in this class compare and such (Oxalys, Beat On, Sequence, Spot On, etc.):

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_8577895/tm.htm

BTW, Pedro kindly offered to share his plans on that thread. They show much info and detail on the Beat On 30.

I wonder what inspired Akiba to come up with these names: Wild 7, Wild Beat, Beat On,...

Speaking of which, a Wild 7 should make an appearance at my door soon. I'm pleased as punch!

David.
