I seem to remember a pattern plane from the 70's that I think was called the "Pathfinder". Anyone remember this plane?[sm=confused.gif]
Yes, a guy in NJ did it. He was a monokote guru, too.

This is a shot of the Pathfinder taken from the May 1973 MAN construction article.

It's basically a Banshee clone and was designed by Dan De Luca.

Yes, Dan DeLuca. He wrote a book on monokoting.

That is one great looking site. Are you open to more pictures of the same planes or are you just looking for new ones? Great job putting all this together. Thanks a million.

mred33,
I am always looking for new pictures. I don't mind having multiple pictures of the same plane. I like to see different covering schemes for ideas on covering my own models. They can be scans from magazines as well. I have a few new images to add to the site, but I haven't had time to work on it. Today might be a good day because winds are 25 gusting to 35. There is a member that always says, "The plane doesn't know its windy." He also says, "Its just dirty old money."
Thanks for the kind words and contributions. Keep those images coming!
I met Bruce Underwood, President of the Senior Pattern Association, at the Southeastern Model show in Perry, Georgia this past weekend. We spoke for 10 minutes or so and I signed up to be a member. The efforts of these guys to keep classic pattern alive is commendable! Please consider joining the SPA to help support them. Its only $20.00 a year. Thats only three-props-worth to you and me! Did you know that the Avanti on your site is a control line F2B plane that belongs to the late 1996 United States National F2B Champion , Bob Baron. Bob Baron also took 2nd place at the worlds in F2B with an updated version of the Avanti.

Well spotted. This is the "real" Avanti by Donald Grassi from May 1974 RCM.

Hey CAsniffer:

It's a great comliment to me when someone posts a picture of my Atlanta in their web base. Mine is the white one with the red and blue trim. She is complimented with a YS60 FIRE, hatori pipe and MK retracts.

Great job!

Frank

Has Hank Keck's Cerberus come up yet? It's in the August '76 MA. 65" span, 6.75 lbs. I always liked the looks of it, just from the magazine pictures.

Looks right to me too! I never heard of this one, but I'll bet it flew good. Looks like a Curare vertical and rudder (kinda') and a Southern R/c nose, nice tapored wing, an Airforce Pilot, and (maybe) a Kraft radio? We're there plans in the article? Were those wheel covers or flaps under the wing?

WEDJ 03-20-2008 02:35 PM

RE: Classic Pattern Plane Image-base

IIRC:

The "flaps" were a combination of wheel well cover and speed brake. Hinge was towards the LE of the wing.

Yup, plans can be ordered, and the article is in the archives. It looks like a nice, light build. The author/designer explains the rational behind the wheel well doors below. I wouldn't bother with the doors myself. I don't live high above sea level, and engines are stronger today.

Would it be possible for you to E-Mail me the article including the article plans? Would like too see more of it, or tell me how to get to the archives.

CAsniffer, Have you considered adding links to Build Treads along with the pics of the planes? I know a few guys have done and are doing some on RCU. Here's the link to the build thread I did with my Challenger. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_5969699/tm.htm

Dear "Prop"

My guess is he doesn't have the time to get any deeper into the project than he already is. I've been looking forward to seeing pictures I sent him a month ago to be posted. I submitted 40+ year-old pictures of Don Lowe's original Phoenix 1, and Jim Kirkland's Beachcomber, but haven't seen them yet. Maybe there is a technical problem with the picture quality, but it's more likely he's "gummed under"

Could be, it does seem like a lot of work getting it all together. Nice to see my Challenger made it in there (as well as your King Altair) though!![8D]
