Can't beleive that no one has sent anything to you about the "Compensator".. It was very popular in the Knoxville area way back in the late 70's and early 80's..

Does anyone know where to get the plans for the Compensator. Its smaller brother, the Gator Flea, is on the MAN site, but I have never been able to find the Compensator.

Jeff,

Well, the Compensator was published in the January 1974 issue of MAN and the plan number is #165 so I guess it should be available. I can send you the article scan if that is any help.

I'm building a Gator Flea now.. I'm afraid to send pic's as I've redesigned the cowl and am making it electric... I'll bet the howling will commence!! LOL Built my first one around 1980 (glow) and paid $30.00 for the kit at a local hobby shop.. There were about 5 compensators flyin at my local field at the time. I know that larger airplanes are supposed to fly better but the little Flea could do all that it's big brother could!

Does the Meridian fall within the scope of the Classic Pattern Plane? Just curious. One of the old guys at my field brought one out today and was flying it. Then I found this similar(his doesn't say 900) model on RCU from this past December.

I suspect it is too new for the Classic enthusiasts and too old for the Modern Pattern guys. A pity: there's many beautiful planes from about the same period but nobody seems to love them any more.

I believe that Henry Piorin designed the Meridian after his Eclipse which would put it late 80's to early 90's. The 900 was the larger 4 stoke version so it had to be a 90's design. The were all good flyers and the later version was the Python (Monty). I would think that the sixties would be good BPA style aircraft.

I found pics and some data on a few Henry Piorun designs at this site:
http://www.wtp.net/DBEST/piorun/hp.html

I really like the look of the Olympian and the Zeus.

I suppose the Larimar (Wolfgang Matt late 90s design / PL Prod kits) is a bit more recent but still a "skinny" plane.

Does my 20+ year old Ariel fit into the category of Classic Pattern plane?
(fiberglass fuselage, retracts, completely recovered/repainted.)

Thats a fab paint job-

I'm in the same catagory I think too young for SPA design rules and out of date with todays pattern design requirements but just the same this era produced some sleek and beautiful designs that could be fast...

I'm rapidly getting to that stage and look forward to using my new Develbiss HLVP units I recently ordered to replace my ancient Develbiss touch up gun. Now I'm also waiting on retracts from Springair so I can finish the 'mains' retract installation .

Again your color sheme works for me.

Dave,

Where did you find the Compensator plan listing? I went to the AMA site, but there didn't appear to be a Compensator listed in the "C" section of the plans listing.

Ray,

I searched the RCStore site at Model Airplane News, but the Compensator plan isn't listed. A scan of the article would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I saw Denis Donahue's El Tigre on page 2. That's one I had a thing for back in the old days.

El Tigre - yes that's one mean machine. Here are some shots of the original from the AAM July 1974 construction article.

Tom,

Don't know about the full size plans but I can supply the article scan which includes a small copy of the plan. This would be dead easy to scale up.

I seem to remember a pattern plane from the 70's that I think was called the "Pathfinder". Anyone remember this plane?[sm=confused.gif]
