Deadstik,
Here is a link to the page that I got the picture and name Mannix from. Not to be argumentative...I just wanted to find out where I got the name Mannix. I've never seen it before, but that doesn't mean it does not exist.

Do you think the german site is mistaken as to the identity of the plane?

Thanks

CA,

Looks to me like someone in Germany knocked off the plans and changed the name. I've attached a couple of pictures from Zel Ritchie and I'll get one more bit of "proof" when I scan my Orbit Radio ads from 1966. Zel Ritchie and the Phantom IV were placed in the Orbit Proportional ads of that era and you can see it is the very same plane. Good job on asking as there are a LOT of planes that were, let's say, "borrowed"?? Again, I've got some pics to send you...

RE: Classic Pattern Plane Image-base

Deadstik,
I didn't think about it being a knock-off. Those pictures you attached are sharp! (clear) I don't like the way RCU now changes the resolution of posted images. You can still save them to your local computer, but they're too small. Just a pet peave. Nothing to worry about. ;-). In the past, they would ask that the images be 800x600 or less. I remember some pictures would take up the entire screen because someone uploaded a much larger picture. I take all my digital pictures in the highest resolution and resize as needed. Its easy to go down in resolution...up is impossible.
I would appreciate an email with the images you posted to include with all the rest. I keep saying this, but soon I will re-alphabetize all the pictures. I will have to create 4 new pages and copy-paste image and description into the new page. It a labor of love.

Thanks!

Hi casniffer!

Here is one of my favorite "closet sleepers" from CL stunt icon Steve Wooley. Right before he was killed in a auto accident he designed and built an RC pattern ship called the Mura. It was publised right after his dealth. Nice lines that carried over from his Cobra CL stunt lineage. Someday I would like to build one!

The Mura is definately a good looking plane. I have included the picture in the image-base.
Thanks for the contribution!

:DThe yellow and blue" Patricia" was mine. Sadly it met it's demise when I recently moved. Crushed by a large box. Your work in showing all these old pattern planes is much appreciated. It brings back many fond memories of the way things were. Thanks, Skip

Hi Sean, Do you know in what magazine and issue the Mura was published? Easy to see the influence of the graceful old CL Stunt ships in this design. Thanks, Jeff

Ha! Please disregard, I asked too soon- just found it thru CA Sniffer's excellent Pattern Plane Pictorial website: RCM 6-73. Thanks CA for all your great work in assembling those photos!

Great work. The Eureka Eyeball Mark V on page 2 is actually a J&J industries kit. I am in the process of clear coating one which I purchased for my dad some 35 years ago. The picture on my box is identical to the one you show. Let me know if you want me to take a photo of the box and send to you.

I will also submit a photo the plane when its all put together.

Dave.

Hey Guys,
Take a look at the countries that have visited the Image Base. Some of these countries are smaller than Rhode Island. Its nice to see where all the visitors are coming from.

Here's a rare one from Southern California, a Glaskraft Viper produced around 1963 - 1965 designed by Mac Beauchamp for reed flying. It's a very smooth flyer, the glass work was excellent. Anybody seen one?

CA: The HotElliptic was designed by John Bech-Hansen and was published in MAN in 4/87. Plans are still available. The pic you have came from the MAN article.

MR CA SNIFFER

Wonderful collection of photos---(about a dozen of them are mine). I've been trying to contact you about adding a couple more, and making some comments on my King Altairs you have listed. Each time I try I get a "bad address" notice, and no response, so how do I get a hold you you personally?

Thanks

Duane

kingaltair,
I sent you a PM with my information. I'm sorry you are having trouble trying to contact me. I can't imagine why this is. Is anyone else having similar problems?

Thanks

Ca Sniffer;

Did you get the pictures of Don Lowe's original Phoenix 1, and the Kirkland's original Beachcomber? I sent them a few days ago?

casniffer 02-26-2008 03:38 PM

RE: Classic Pattern Plane Image-base

kingaltair,
I think so. The Beachcomber picture had a Kirland sign in the foreground with a boy laying on a blanket and the plane in the background, right. If so, I have them on another page I am working on. I don't know when I will have it up on the site...I am getting ready for the Perry swap meet. I have a few planes to sell and other items.
Thanks
