RE: Dalotel?
Rendegade,
ORIGINAL: Taurus Flyer David, Many years ago I was not sure about the color of that dark bottom of the Taurus. Nobody could tell for sure the real color. End of story was I did fly for long with dark marine blue my best choice of that moment. After seeing the original two Taurusses I do my own color reconstruction and only believe the most original picture most and after that my own reconstructed pictures . message shortened by Taurus Flyer Cees Cees |

Allthegoodnamesaretaken/Jeff,
It was not my intension to make a perfect picture of the photo Rendegade did show. Post 70 and 71 were the most important posts for me. To make a fast job I did use the similar factors I did learn of the picture in post 71 for the picture of post 77, for that reason I always mark my pictures, name and date. I archive all the corrections I make and only accept basic pictures. My picture might be too light, I think your picture is too dark for a sunny day, so the solution maybe is a picture in the middle. For both of our pictures most important is “PURPLE IS STILL PURPLE” and we did not try to make it blue! Look also to the left front tire of that car in your and mine pucture! When it looks like a duck it isn't always a duck! End of input in this thread. Success Cees |
RE: Dalotel?
Hi,
The picture that I scanned from Simprop 1984 catalog is for sure not faded - that catalog has been in storage and closed for over 25 years. It was opened just to make the scan. In the Simprop catalog the picture clearly shows mid-dark blue wing (and stab) leading edge (and presumably same color on underside wing and stab) with light blue stripe. /Bo |
RE: Dalotel?
Dalotel 165...colors or colours!
Rusty's Dalotel "replica" will use metallic purple, pink, yellow, black and white per Bem's photo. The Great Planes original (post the purchase from Bridi) demo model that I am restoring and was created to copy Hanno's winning 1982 smaller model is covered in clear Monokote and has K&B Superpoxy white, black yellow and pink. The K&B pink out of the can was a color not found in nature, kinda funky and did not match Monokote. I have no "photo enhancing wizardry skills/techniques" but am marveling at the various submissions. Rusty Dose Team Futaba Preparing for the 2011 "Classic TOC" class! |

I have to join in here..
I've always loved the way a Dalotel looks in the air. It's neat to see some shots of others. Here's a shot of my Dalotel. It has a 100" wing span. Powered by a Zenoah 445. (GT-80) My dad designed and kitted this plane for years. He built this one, it was his favorite plane. [img][/img] Joe |

ORIGINAL: Taurus Flyer End of input in this thread. Success Cees You can't reconstruct the correct colors from photos, anyway, because they change with lighting and viewing angle. Instead I would look for commercially available colors (or colours ;) ), like Rusty does, or ask a designer how he chooses a set of matching colors. After all, the Dalo model has at least three colors. |
RE: Dalotel?
Just for the record, Hanno used examples of his Dalotel at three TOCs - 1978, 1980 & 1982. Referring to the rudder numbers, models used at these events were 01, 03 & 07 respectively. I assume he had back ups at each event whose rudder numbers I do not know.
All models were Monokote covered which may help with the colors used. 01 & 03 used the plain yellow scheme and 07 the sunburst pattern. Ray |
RE: Dalotel?
ORIGINAL: doxilia Bo, actually I do so thanks for the photo. Were there any more? Do you think that is purple or blue that he used on the wing LE and tips (and presumably bottom)? Perhaps you could post it in the Prettner thread as well? David. It will be clear that the purple is no artifact (see post 65, http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/fb.asp?m=9720722 ) if you are interested in values to reconstruct the color if you want to paint, let me know. In that case I will spend some more time on it. Cees |
RE: Dalotel?
Hanno's still around. Why doesn't somebody just ask him?!?!?

Andy,
it could take a week to get through the questions I'd have for Hanno if I had the opportunity to speak to him... Still, I'd be happy with 5 minutes. One of the interesting things about that under shot with the pipes is that the pipes were likely anodized. They look remarkably similar to the anodization that is done by Just Engines in the UK nowadays but I don't know what their history is - whether they were around in the ealry 80's and whether Hanno would have used pipes from such a company. It could be that Webra was supplying the pipes who in turn was being supplied by JE (or whoever supplies them). If that's the case, a color match (if it were that critical - not my case) would be easy to establish based on the pipes available today. Then again, the following two shots, don't help the cause much - wildly different colors based on lighting conditions... David. |
RE: Dalotel?
It could be that Webra was supplying the pipes That's the 1982 model so the pipes were probably supplied by Super Tigre or OPS. ( twin geared ST 60s used in model) Ray |

ORIGINAL: BERUSTY Bridi Dalotel...? Flywilly, Good for you to have the Bridi Dalotel. I wonder if a YS 1.70/1.60 would fly the monster around? If you find your interest in releasing the kit...my number is listed below. The Dalotel is one the list as a Hansen Slim Zlin if anyone has an extra one in the same basic category of high performance sorta scale precision aerobatic models. Dear Dalotel Friends
Now i have some answers. the First picture (the yellow one) was flown in 1978 and the dalo on the 2nd picture was flown in 1982 regards Franz |
RE: Dalotel?
Anyone know of the plans/dimensions of the Hanno Dalotel? I notice that he has the tail a little lower than the full size.

I had one of those a few years ago. Powered it with a YS .91AC. Perfect combo. If anyone here picks it up and wants a glass cowl, I still have a mold for it.
