This event is the real reason for this season
Been setting up my CHRISTmas decorations, which is much different since I come to know the true meaning of this season.

Happy birthday, JESUS!

May all of us still have the mind, body and safety to continue building any type of model.

I just realized that going from the TV to the computer..... DOES NOT COUNT as exercise. I have started cleaning up …...A LIFE TIME..... of uselessmodels & scraps saved. Took 2 hours using my table saw, metal bladed chop saw. Floor vacuum . I had the fingers locking up painfully a few times.

BUT

My skipping heart rate has locked into a SOLID pulse rate & A lot of aches have been reduced.
Tomorrow ? I visit the cheerleaders.

Use it or lose it is true sometimes.

Wife is doing her fantastic Christmas Eve breakfast this morning. Eggs bacon, Enterman's Stolen & coffee..…… Life is good !!

At this time of year in the UK many choral societies perform Handel's Messiah. The Huddersfield Choral Society has put on annual performances since 1836 through good times and bad, through umpteen trade recessions, two world wars and the Great Depression. I don't think that this is the Huddersfield Choral Society, probably a choir from the London area but even they do not normally perform in a cafeteria! I know I do this every year but this is still worth listening to again.

Nice mall presentation, I saw this somewhere else through another post, may have been Facebook. This particular presentation was sponsored by Alphabet Photography, Niagara Falls, Ontario, most likely a Canadian mall where performed. Wherever performed, there are many nice presentations, bringing out the better part of society.

Here's a flashmob inside a large mall, location not mentioned, could be anywhere within the English speaking world, whether United States, Australia, New Zealand, England, Canada, etc. They do a nice job of a medley of Christmas tunes.

Comet balsa rubber powered kits at age 8 in 1957. None flew well but loved building them. Life long hobby flying RC since 1972.

I remember well well those Comet kits! Built a bunch of them. One or two even managed to stay aloft for more than 5 seconds.

My first build was a Comet Ryan SC kit (aka would be pilot crack). I blame it for hooking me for life!

Every spring I buy 5 of those cheap old fashioned 12" wind up rubber band powered planes. we do longest takeoffs. Biggest loop. largest circle.

COMBAT
Never any planes left after a week.

Back in 1965, the wheel-less rubber powered stick fuselage North Pacific Skeeter cost $0.15 each; ROG styled Sleek Streak with wheels was $0.25 each; gliders were $0.10 each. I bought scads of those, repaired them when the broke, made motors out of free newspaper rubber bands. My first stick and tissue airplane was the 16" span Comet Ryan SC. Kit came with black tissue.

North Pacific kites were $0.10 and $0.15 each, also bought scads of those.

I flew many of the wind up stick planes. These were pretty good flying planes in summer on a windless day. I thought the Comet kits would fly like them but they never would. Built several Gallows stick and tissue kits but they weren't any better. To much weight but what does a young kid know.

Most of my stick and tissue builds didn't fly well, but back in 1966 one did, my 18" Comet P-51B turtle deck Mustang. It was framed very light and a low winger at that. Later in 1977 as a young man, I built a 24" Guillow Aeronca Sedan. It flew, but flew fast and had a fast glide because of its weight. Had it been framed in lightweight contest balsa instead of the factory almost pine hard balsa, would have done better.

I only knew that Balsa was real with my finger nail denting it.

Happy New Year Fellow Aeromodellers!

I received some good news yesterday. I am a four-stroke enthusiast. In 2018 the biggest eligible fourstroke in La Coupe Des Barons was only a 40. These stood no chance against the favoured OS 35 AX. After the competition I wrote to the organisers suggesting an increase in the permitted cubic capacity of fourstrokes. This year they have increased the maximum eligible size of a fourstroke permitted in the event from a 40 to a 52. I have four fourstrokes which I could use: 2 OS 48 Surpasses, an OS 52 Surpass and a Magnum 52. I'll be shoving one of those into Boris!

Have any of you made any New Year's Resolutions. I have decided upon two;
  1. To reduce my alcohol consumption, "No Wine Before Nine" will be my motto!
  2. To find a female companion.
If I succeed in the first I will have more time for building and flying. However, if I succeed in the second endeavour, building time will certainly be curtailed!

I'm keeping to mine from many years back

Never make a new years resolution!

As far was wine and women, well, I rarely touch the stuff, and found a woman who supports my bad habit, er, hobby.

Happy New Year to All.

I made my trip to Florida for Christmas and New Years. All went well this time. Not too busy in Florida but still never got to Graves RC. I wanted to buy some thick balsa I saw there but not to be. I guess it will be next trip.

Getting close to the New Year firecrackers and rockets were being fired in the neighborhood. My 3 dogs really didn’t like the sound. My Lab would bark at the sound. I figured New Year’s Eve would be bad. So I spent the time with my dogs. Here is a picture of the little ones close to me. The Lab was close by my feet. I stayed with them until the sound died down then went to bed for the trip back to Texas on the 1st.

This time I got to see Hurricane Michael’s damage along I-10. Lots of trees and debris still on the ground. Some areas are clear cut now. Lots of firewood on the ground. I wish I could get. Trees are broken off, uprooted and some areas look like tree stumps and trunks only sticking up out of the ground. Signs and metal debris still on the ground. Weigh station and rest area still closed. A sad sight.

Not good pictures as I was driving alone. You can see some tree debris and clear cut areas. Very thin tree line now. I’ve been thru a few but this is one Hurricane I’m glad I missed.

Figured I’d do some beginning of the year flying and today it was rain, rain and rain. Pastures and runway soggy as can be. Oh well. Wait for a dry day. Finish my current build and start on my foamy.

Default Old guy form iowa

Hello all
I am just getting back to flying after twenty years off.
I spent the last two months rebuilding seven glow engines and gathering my tools and setting up my workshop. I’m a mechanic and a motorcycle racer so that was easy.

I joined a local club and redid my AMA membership. Now I am finishing up a nice pattern plane with a Saito 80 four stroke. My plan is to pick up a couple used planes to use as trainers to get the pass so I can solo at the field and get the OK to fly alone.
I am looking forward to that. I have been flying micro helicopters and a simulator for a couple years. But I’m not going to get cocky. Old guys know better.
i used to fly pylon and pattern back in the early nineties. Now I want to look at 3D once I get back. I’m also looking at these scale electric stuff. A lot has changed in twenty years.
