Default How does it work in here?

1. Okay, I really want to know ... how does it work in here (threads) Does RCU have a group of moderators who randomly monitor the post, and if they don't like what they see shut it down, or does it happen because someone's Ox is being gored, and they run to the moderator and complain until the thread is closed? I'm really not trying to be a wise-ass here, I simply do not know, and would like to.

2. How does one become a moderator? Is it an elected position, or is it appointed, or are they employees of the host?

3. Is there any means of having someone removed as a moderator? (like for overzealousness)(is that a word?)

4. Is there a means to have a thread restored once a moderator has decided to shut it down?

Like I said in point #1, Not trying to be a wise-ass, just want to know. (no private e-mails will be accepted in regard to these questions, please hang it out for all to read and become educated)

Thank you in advance for your input.

Bill

All the moderators are volunteers. Each forum has at least one moderator assigned to it and there are community moderators that fill in the gaps in all forums. If a person wants to become a moderator, they may contact RCU managment and submit thier request. As for a moderator being removed from his or her position, yes we can if it is felt that there is a problem. As for getting a post restored after it has been removed or locked, they can be restored if a request is made to RCU managment and it is felt that a mistake has been made and that the thread in question is within the established posting rules of RCU. Hope that this information is what you are looking for, Dave

I don't know about random monitoring, more like constant. Let me give you an example. If you put up a post that belongs in another thread, they simply close it and move it their

Example: Whats the difference between the 9c and 7c?

Ouch, you guys really know how to hurt us mods.

The fact is, most of us really try to look the other way on the occaisional misuse. Hell, you all know that there's not a one of us that doesn't join in on the fun once in a while.

But then, we're human too, and sometimes someone may be having a bad day, or maybe he's really feeling his Wheaties that day, and will get a little over-zealous, but for the most part, our actions are either the result of a BLATANT break in the rules, OR because someone reported the thread.

Let's face it, if one of the "Regulars" posts something that's really borderline, or slightly over-the-line, we can only pretend to ignore it until it gets reported.

Once someone says "Whatterya gonna DO about it? HUH???" We pretty much HAVE to do something about it.

I think you guys do a pretty good job. Thanks for keeping it this way.[sm=thumbup.gif]

Now you can move the thread to scale racing or maybe over to the boat forum just to hack off CH.[sm=spinnyeyes.gif][sm=bananahead.gif]

Is RCU looking for mods. right now? How old do you have to be to be a moderator? I'm 15.5 but I think I can take on the job. IF no one want's to mod. the slow forums like the test post one or others that are slow I'll be happy to help. I have three life's. School, R/C, and RCU.-Rick

I think you guys do a very good job at maintaining order among the chaos, but the above statement is too PC for me. There's a lot that gets said that almost everyone at some time will take exception to. Even the occasional "flame" or insult sometimes is not wholly out of line; face it, some people (me definitely included) set themselves up for it and need the reality check. If someone reads something they don't like, that is what the left button on the mouse is for. I do agree though, that "piling on" can get out of hand; but then you guys can jump in, throw the yellow flag and blow the whistle, call 15 yards for roughing the poster.

Keep it up.

I think the mods do a good job.

I've been shut down or PM'd and "asked" to edit my post before. I deserved it, but the mod was nice enough to give me the opportunity to edit my flame--rather than just whack my post into oblivian.

That does it! I am invoking citizen's mod authority and moving your post.

There I just moved it along with the computer across the room. Since it is on a laptop I also closed it[sm=spinnyeyes.gif][sm=bananahead.gif]

Dave, you might want to look at a post on here titled "what is a blog". It is locked but I would be curious as to what the reasoning was. There is nothing in the 4 posts that seem the least bit out of the ordinary. Granted I have not tried any code breaking techniques for hidden messages so maybe you can point out the obvious to me.

I think it is a Stewart tartan, not sure. It was the band uniform at the time. They were later changed to the Carolina tartan.

Uhm... I don't know the best way to say this without looking odd but leave my buddy alone. Chuck is AOK here in the Carolinas and you FLA peeps ( I know you aren't a native ) may want to use caution as I travel extensively and have a vast network[X(][>:] So the dude played the pipes and wore a skirt at a funeral. I would do the same if I could play the pipes.[8D]
