Props?

Default Props?

I have been using master airscrew props because of availbility and cost where i live.What are some of the inexspensive props out there that are worth using?Say APC are they any good better or worst than the master airscrew.These questions maybe trivial to you guy's here but i'm pretty much a newbie and i need to tap in to your knowledge.

Also can someone show some pictutres or explain to me how a bladder tank is setup i think i saw something about surgical tubing be used for this purpose, is that correct?
Need your wisdom guy's.

Jim, I cannot help with bladder tank systems but as to props I find that APC are superior to Master AirScrew. I find that I get more thrust from an APC at the same rpm than I get from MA props. That said, I have to confess that lately I have been using Chinese knock offs of the APC which only cost a round $1.00 to $2.00. You have to factor in the cost of shipping but props are relatively light and I like to have a variety on hand so I go with "HobbyCity" and so far have had good luck with them.

I notice that the handling on my planes seems crisper and more exact with an APC or wood prop compared to a MA or old TopFlight style flexible white Nylon prop.

I generally start out with an APC. Spending time prop testing, once you get to flying well enough that you can tell the difference, is very rewarding.  I've been surprised at what works the best sometimes.  I've transfered engine, fueltank, and prop to another airplane and found that the "best' prop was no longer so.

This is so true.
Jim (jayseas), if you think you are going to get around in life with just one brand, style or size prop for a particular size engine you might as well face facts. It ain't going to happen.
When it comes to the best prop, plane, engine and even radios, what works best for you is the right choice. It is sort of like asking what is the best car to buy, or what is the best rod and reel combo or what is the best golf clubs.

When it comes to props, it is good to have a choice if for no other reason than to have spares. It is almost silly to go out flying with only one prop anyway. Ask anyone who has broken or cracked a prop. You don't want to end your flying session with something so trifle.
Besides, many times we wind up using a spare prop that we otherwise would never have tried only to find that was the one we should have been using all the time.

I had a thrust critical model that I flew back to back with MA and TF props and then put a pair (it was a twin) of APC's on it and it made all of the difference. When thrust and efficiency is needed, the APC is very good.

OK OK so it's a 4 month old quote. Hey, I'm old too.

Way back when Knights were bold, and Ladies proud of it, and I was not so old, I did a lot of Pylon Racing. Back in those days before all these "security" bureaucracies were developed, we pilots could carry things with us to whittle props down to the right sizes, or so we thought right size. [:-] That was for those long lay-overs where a room, a TV, and a batch of fried chicken made for good times whittling props.

I remember whittling Rev-Up pylon props to have several exactly alike, or so I thought, and I was lucky if just one was good. Sometimes I was certain I had 2 or 3 exactly like a previous one and one was excellent and 2 were duds. I never found out the secrets of props that made so much difference between two so much alike.
