I just finished it last night at 4 a.m. because I wanted to go flying today. It was a little nose heavy, so here are the mods I did today
. Before and after pics. Cause? Deadstick and a stall during turning on final. The saddest thing is that I didn't even get to fly it! I asked a more experienced flyer to maiden it and that happend during that flight. Anyway, next time I'll try to crash my planes myself...

This situation is so common and it is a example to all the experienced guys to be careful
on who you are going to help....

Enrique, where did you read anything that shows that I blame him? I mentioned the cause of the crash, that was not only my explanation, I asked him so in no way was it his fault, and the only reason I posted here is because this is the crash forum and there are guys like me and you that like to read about crashes, look at pictures and watch videos (I sure would like to have a video of this crash!). Believe me, he was feeling really bad about what happened, and the way I handled it only made him feel better. I thought my funny way of putting it (EXTRA ON A DIET, MODS etc.) would show if I was pointing a finger or just stating the facts and sharing my experience with everyone. I don't think there's anything wrong with that.
Next time please be more careful with your comments. It was his irreplaceable 5 minutes of his time but that crashed plane took about two weeks of my irreplaceable free time to complete and some of my irreplaceable money. Try not to beat a guy when he's down.
Anyway, I guess not everyone can have the same sense of humour, or even a sense of humor
Thanks to everybody else for their comments

Dont worry about it there are some people who dont read things through or tink about it before they type. I bet there are more people who got what you were saying then there are people who think you were complaining about the piliot. Yes it was funny.

Serafim: I am glad that you wrote this reply stating that the guy who helped you wasn´t responsible for your crash, helping make things clear.
I am a old internet user and I am very careful in what I wrote, but I am not afraid of expressing myself on a point that seemed unfair until you explained it. I also didn´t want to beat you down,
I already crashed before and I know what are you feeling, but I also lived the other side of the story, I was the experienced guy who helped a guy to fly a plane only to hear ungrateful
comments when something went wrong later.
Joeb: I absolutely agree that there is a lot of people who dont read things through or think about it before they type and jump into conclusions.

Enrique, I didn't in any way imply in my first post that he was to blame. On the contrary, I think. The only one blaming someone was you blaming me for taking the story public on the Internet and accusing the guy, which I did not. But anyway, glad I cleared it up for you.

Serafim, I am sure that I was not the only one who thought in this way reading the first posts in
this thread, I was only the first one to point it. And as I also stated before, I was glad to heard
about you clarification. I also said before to someone here in RCU some time ago that I am very
optimistic about this modern times, where people has a unprecedent tool to communicate and talk
each other about different points of view and find solutions, turning our lives a little better...

If it wasn't just you, then I'm more glad I made it clear. Anyway, I'm also glad that I can exchange messages with people half way around the world, even with all the misunderstandings. Enjoy the pics.

P.S. The skid marks behind the plane in the second pic where not made by the plane

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHHHHHHHHHHH!
YEs..,....it is another RCU pi$$ing contest
at no point did the original post point blame... at all...it was humorous...and it it was good...
A crash is sad and the plane can be fixed..
but why does EVERY post have to have someone come in and turn it into a pi$$ing contest!
Geeeeeeeeeeez!
Ok...
Now to my humorous retort...
Serafim, Excellent mod... I always thought all the pesky metal up front added too much weight!
Sorry about the plane
Carry on!

Well I think it was the pilots fault , if it was HIS plane he would have taken the time to completely go over everthing before he tried to fly the plane. IMO he owes you money .
Now let me back up and duck because I know the ***** is about to hit the fan.

Yeah, I got it the first time too. I didn't read anything in the original post that made me think Serafim was blaming the "test pilot".
Sorry for your loss, but happy to see you have a sense of humor about it. There's really not much you can do but laugh, we all lose them.

Thanks for all the replies guys. Here's a little story so you can understand why I took it so well (well, not so well, but better than I would another crash).
About 12 years ago I bought a Hobbico Diabolo 40 ASAP. I never got a chance to finish it. Then I stoped flying for several years and now I'm back. One day I was trying to see if there was anything missing and found out that I had misplaced the motor mount and the fuel tank. Trying to replace them was not possible, because Hobbico has stoped making that ARF. The motor mount is very hard to replace, especially here in Greece. So I gave up on it. A couple of weeks ago I stoped by the LHS to get some props and I see the Extra. It was from the same line of products. I open the box and, to my surprise, it has exactly the same motor mount and fuel tank as the Diabolo did. It was even at a good price, being an old model and all. So I think, I'll buy it, build it, and if I crash it, I'll have the parts to build the Diabolo! And so I did.
To make a long story short, I'm putting the Diabolo together this week and, weather permiting, I'll fly it this weekend. MYSHELF! So, that crash didn't really bother me that much, because I had the other model that I could never build without the parts from the Extra.

I'm gonna add my 3.8 cents (inflation). Everyone has their own way when it comes to maiden flights. 1st, I do all my own maiden flights. I don't wanna tax anybody to fly my planes because if they crash it, then they may feel obligated. And, I don't fly anyone else's planes. It just makes things alot easier this way at the field. 2nd, if the engine is new or you've never had this particular engine,
you don't know how much fuel its gonna drink. I tend to keep my 1st few flights about 5 minutes to trim it out. I'll then look to see
how much fuel is left in the tank and go from there. I have a timer on my Futaba radio and it will beep telling me thats its about time to land. I've only had one deadstick from running out of fuel. 3rd, aerobats like the 300, Cap, Edge 540 etc., landing these birds is certainly not like a trainer. They sorta don't float in. You have to "fly" them in with just a touch of speed. Sort of like landing the warbirds. If you happen to have to deadstick one, its like a crap shoot to get it lined up and with enough speed so it doesn't stall and then drop like a rock. Lastly, I take these crash posts as valuable information. What not to do, what areas to beef up etc.

I lightened up one today to . I had 3 maidens to do today . 1 A CG military cub . 2 A Dragon lady . 3 a Worlds models P-51 . I swear this P-51 is haunted or something . I bought it over a year ago after it had a Gravity incident . I rebuilt the firewall and fixed the elevator . Ive tried to fly this plane 3 times before . Everything will check out at home I get it to the field and somethings goofed up . One time servos started glitching all over the place .. Another time it wouldnt start . .. Pinched fuel line . Third trip retracts wouldnt drop backdown while testing them . So over the winter I went threw this plane top to bottom a zillion times determined to fly it this spring . Well I get her to the field today . Checked her out twice . Even put in a new glow plug Just Because .. Field tested the radio ... Fired her up Field tested again .Rechecked battery voltage .. AHHH she finally ready . I started her up . Took it off my stand .. Walked a couple feet with it ready and running then tripped over my own two feet . The nose hit the ground and I kinda half fell forward on it breaking the motor mount , cowling and part of the elevator ..L.O.L...Oh well back to the old rebuilding table . Good news is the Dragon Lady flew almost perfect with just a few clicks of the trim here and there . The Cub I have Kenny from the South Park Cartoon ((( The one who always Dies )) As the Pilot . Well Kenny flew 4 great flights and is still alive to fly another day . It just felt great to be out in the Wisconsin sunshine enjoying this hobby again . And always remeber .. A bad day flying Always beats a good day at work !!!!
