Default New to Li-Po's

I have two Electric Power 1800 Mah Li-Po batteries and a Great Planes Poly Charger. The charger can deliver 1000ma max. The batteries are 8C continuous. Can I charge them with this charger even though I believe it just takes longer, right or wrong.

The batts have an individual cell leadout and the docs say I should charge on a equalizing charger. Can I charge these batts with the charger across their output without the equalizing deal without a problem. I plan on connecting them 3S2P, both in parallel so I can get twice the current of one pack. Tnx...Ron

If the charger you have will only do a 1000 mAh, That is 1 AMP charge rate and the 1800 can be charged at 1.8 amps.
Your charger will take over 2 hrs to charge. You can charge stright through the out put wire's with no problem. The small connector's can be used to just check balance if you think it is needed. If you charge both packs at same time that is 3600 mAh and could be charged at 3.8 amps and would take about 4 hrs with your charger.

Thanks for your reply Milton. You put my mind at rest. I will be using the cells to power an Astro 25 Brushed motor in a PT 20. Former glow powered.

Can I ask one more question that I ommited from my origional entry.

What is the max current that I can draw from the cells. They are 8C, 15C Burst.

If you run them at 3600 mAh the max I would run static is 28 amps 30 max, They will burst higher than this but you will cut the number of cycles that you will get out of them.
I run two 3S 4P 8800 mAh to be a 6S 4P and pull 60 amps static and when I fly the average amp draw is about 30 amps.

Thank you. I think I can get away with 25 amps max according to my cludged ammeter set up. You guys have been a big help to this rookie.

Just remember that watts is power and you get watts from volts x amps = watts
Do you know what the all up weight of your plane will be.
If you will only be pulling 25 amps you should hold a good 3.5 volts per cell. At this 3.5 x 3 = 10.5 volts x 25 amps = 262 watts.

The total weight of the plane, a PT20, is about 4 lbs with the motor in it.

That will be 65 watts per pound. The plane will fly but will not have great power. What motor are you using and what is the max amp draw for the motor.
A good sport airplane needs about 100 watts per pound and a 3D airplane needs about 150 watts per pound.

It looks like the weight of the plane with everything on board is 4 lbs 3oz. The motor I will be using is an Astro cobalt 25 Brushed. Going by its specs it sez 35 amp max. On the bench the max I got was 20 Amps.

You have to play with props to get the right amp draw.
