So that radio can do both PCM and FM? Also, what about the 8103?
Yea the 6102 is FM and PCM, you can select either type in each model's settings as long as you have the proper receiver.
The 8103 is cool, yes, but not only is it another $150 or so, it's MUCH more complex. The 6102 has a lot of features but its great strength is in its simplicity (kinda like the design of the Blade CP actually, effective and simple...)

i use duratrax ice chargers for my packs. when i have to start really retrimming my heli its getting close, if it wont get off the ground youve gone a little far (for lipos). in my transmitters i use 2500mha energizer nimh's and a radioshack charger.

I say stick with Futaba... Stay away from the JR's.. You will know what I mean when you go to buy a flight pack or a RX for one. They are ok radios just overpriced in my view. But hey to each his own.

Just postion it to where you are balanced from the fly bars. Mine is probably 3 inches back from the front of the frame.

Helicopters are very interesting machines. In all reality based on physics, they arent even supposed to be able to fly. Kinda of interesting thought....Everytime you fly a heli you are disobeying the laws of physics.

you know what they say! "helicopters dont really fly......they beat the air into submission!"

Bdavison:

Thanks for the explanation of idle up mode. I have definitely had trouble holding a constant altitude in fast forward flight. If I understand your explication correctly I will have about four degrees of positive pitch at midstick in idle up mode. Would this not mean that I would not have equal positive and negative pitch at full collective. I have read reviews and they always have an idle up setup that is like -10/0/+10. Not that I really need tons of negative pitch at this moment but I guess I am trying to peek over the mountain before I reach the top.

Set up tip:

To balance the blades I used a broken landing skid support and the silicon keepers to secure the blades. It seemed to work well.

rcflyerdave,
Here is the site for the paper bodies for the blade. I downloaded one but haven't put together yet.

The pitch curve in the stock radio is something of a mystery. I still havent figured out exactly how they have it set.

At mid stick in idle-up or normal mode there is about +2-4 degrees of pitch (so the heli will stay airborne). When you start going negative, it will go to 0 pitch just a tad below mid-stick and expo's so that at full bottom stick you have between -8 to 10 degrees or so, so you still have equal throws both ways, but the transition point is under mid-stick. The heli is more sensitive on negative collective than on positive due to this.

As far as chargers and batteries.

Im running 1 E-tec 3cell 1250mah lipo.
I charge it on a Great Planes Triton charger at 11.1V 1.2A
Normally one battery is enough. By that time I'm tired of flying and need a break.

Well I love my Blade.

I have been hovering around my back yard the last couple of weeks and begain working on figure 8's. I decided to go to a park just down the road and had a great time.

This is my first Heli....I was always scared away by the maintenance and setup problems...

Well since I was having a great time, I decided to try a roll. Did 3 that I had to split "S" out off, and got one really nice.

Then it happend. In the middle of another roll....All hell broke loose. The thing just balled itself up and fell out of the sky. I was high enough I was able to flip back to normal mode and throttle down and start walking before it hit.

It didn't look hard. But when I got there I saw canopy pieces, the main shaft bent and various other broken pieces. It seems that a ball link broke off of a blade pitch thingy (can you tell this is my first heli?) And that was all she wrote.

Now the problem. Well, now I tried to fix it, but the setup is ALL wrong. It will not hover and when it does its all over the place and the tail rotor trim is all the way to one side and still not enough.

The manual sucks in this regard. I have no idea how to set one of these up.

I plan on going to my LHS, where I bought the parts and a glow heli to have them look at it.

But I must say that I am a little upset being a guy with no clue and a broken very fun toy.

I've seen references to bdavisons assembly instructions for the Blade CP. I've tried searching but all I can find is references to it, not the actual instructions. Could someone please post a link to the instructions? Also, if someone can tell me somewhere that gives a good set of set-up instructions, that would be great.
Thanks

I had the same thing happen today. I have the three cell and cf blades. I was doing a roll and right when I gave it negative pitch, the blades seemed to turn sideways and beat the canopy. All I could do was cut the power and watch it fall. It broke the spindle, bent the shaft and destroyed the canopy. I'm still not sure what caused it because it was flying fine and I had done rolls and loops that flight up til then

I think you will find that the ball link broke off the piece that controls the pitch. I saw one of my blades "Feather" right as all hell broke loose.

I can only assume that going from full positive pitch to full negative broke it off.

The rest as they say is a giant ball of spinning crap falling from the sky.

Is there any place I can buy a new one WITHOUT the 4 in 1 and TX?

I use the G2 sim and have found the raptor 30 to be the best practice heli for me. The watt-not does not do much at all for good realistic flight. I still have an old Hirobo shuttle that I have not flown for ages. It was easier to hover than the little electrics are. I would not go back and get another raptor, just be patient and don't try too much on each flight. when you start getting used to it you will find that it is not as difficult as it first appears. I am flying the crap out of my walkera #35 right now, it is a shogun clone but I have put in all new electronics and brushless motor. It flies great. I am just doing fast foward flight and steep turns along with slow flight and manuevers. upside down will come a little later but the heli appears to be very capable. I think once you get used to these electrics you will really enjoy not having to carry a ton of support gear and not having a mess to clean up after flying.

nope, both blade grips still have the ball links in place. I got it fixed already and it flys just as good again

1. Replacement body without electronics is available from Horizon and any number of dealers for $99.
2. When you have a pretty hard crash and "think" things are still straight, quite often they are not. Any number of things will cause a vibration which causes the head to start to move in flight and cause the heli to go all over the place. Check that the flybar paddles are still lined up straight and level, check if the flybar itself is bent. If it is replace it. Replace the center shaft. I have had the center shaft appear to be straight, but upon examination in a good light rotating the shaft without the blade stuff, can detect a very, very small bend. Upon replacing the center shaft, vibration goes away and the Blade flys well again.
3. Advice - stock up on center shafts, a few flybars, and grips. If you are willing to fly with small vibration and then some erratic heli movements, you can "try" to straighten shafts. But they will never be perfect. Replace them if you have excessive vibration.

Anybody know a way to increase the head speed?? I'm currently running the stock setup but have a set of wider/flater/shorter blades, which helps but would like a LITTLE bit more head speed.

Great job Jet, finally loopin it. You'll like the bell hiller alot more I think. I also heard someone else who was there lost thier shogun trying to do the same......that's too bad.

So give us a play by play of the successful loops.
