Been super busy, but I know you get your Vapor tommorow most likely... Stealth mode yes...Lol..
I always can find the time to read on RCU, but posting takes more time along with getting sucked into the excitement and then time seems to disappear...
The weakest link on the Vapor would be the main-wing. My first few flights I realized this, as the mylar that attaches to the plastic wing frame will tend to come apart... I just used small pieces of scotch tape, and applied them in small spaces apart around the whole edge of the main wing. It doesn't look pretty, bu the Vapor isn't all that attractive anyway, so I was just going for function, not looks. This has served to work very well in the abuse I purposely gave it in its 54 flights... That mylar is extremely tough stuff whatever it is...
On flight 36, I had a nose-dive from experimenting in winds beyond its capability through my 'wind-experimenting' and had a nose dive to the asphalt, resulting in what Lookyj had also said, and that was the motor mount. Luckily for me, it did not detach all the way, and I CA'd it after putting it back into its place. And has worked great ever since.
On the tail sections with the mylar, I used only a couple pieces and that was it for strengthening the mylar there also to the plastic frame it supports on. I did that there just in case, so as not to lose the whole section of mylar in case of a mishap. But its held together very well there from just the very few pieces I did use...
I also put the rod on the servo arm to its inner-most hole for maximum throws, and clipped the rest of the arm off. I removed the battery tray, and use velcro. I trimmed off in total 7mm to each side of the prop, along with removing the soft cone that is in front of the prop. I like the cone off, as it reduces the mass to the prop, and in my hopes would help eliminate bending the small shaft. I have nosed dived many times on the concrete with it off, and now the motor mount Ca'd, has come out fine with no damage...
I also clipped on the underside of the wing some of the extra wing supports that was doubled up, and made it so it is just a single support for each side. This always it to flex a bit more and less stress for breakage, and works more like a birds wings I guess...LMAO..
This thing flies very well, and you will be surprised how well it does compared to my CX2 or your Lama in the wind... At the weight of almost two nickels, its quite amazing...! Although light enough, some of the things I did were for the intent of a little more weight reduced for better flight times with the lipo, and more agility in the skies, and for the weight it gained from the tape and such... Process of give and take I suppose...
These are just ideas that I've tinkered with as I love experimenting on all my RC stuff. I still have the other one brand new with only a 2 minute flight, so it alllows me to really torture-test the thing with no worries... I would recommend doing something like the tape on the main wing however.. Some guys I think ran a bead of CA around the wing-frame attaching the mylar also but haven't tried it, and I like the flexibility of the tape...
You'll find it very relaxing to just fly... I do use my DX-7 that is binded to it, so I'am not sure what the difference is with the stock TX as I haven't tried it...
One other thing, is I used tiny little pieces of blue tape to keep the battery tray from shifting, and did this also for the main-wing attachment to the frame. It keeps it from shifting back and forth and changing the CG from time to time. You'll find the sweet-spot of where you would like the CG, and then you may want to do this...
Have fun with it.... I hope to acquire some of your ideas as well during your exploits with it. I still have the new one to masterly tweak through my experiments with my first one, and the ideas you may come up with also... Get a second battery ! By the time your done flying the first one, the second is charged just about ! It allows constant flying after cool-downs of the electrics of course and keeps ya in the air endlessly.... Its super quiet, and when Liz is sleeping, you could hover it over her head, and she wouldn't know....LOL..
Take care my friend,
~ Jeff

Thanks you so, so much. What accessories/replacement parts should I order now while I'm ordering the helicopter? I know what I use up most often with the CP+ but have no idea what 'consumables' are needed for the HBKII. I'll place the order tonight if I can get the info.
Thanks again!!

Hey scott..........
That is a great base for the HBK2 and will get you going. Eventually you will want a HH gyro and some Trex tail blades. My 2 biggest problems with mine out of the box was the belt slipping off the front guides (I used a couple of washers and shimmed the guides down to keep the belt from slipping off) and tail authority. Now I left mine on the shelf for about 3 months because I could not figure out why the tail would not hold. It boiled down to loosening the screws that hold the tail blade pitch links. They are the ones that go to the balls on the tail blade holders. I had tightened them up thinking that all screws and doodads must be snug, tight or broken to work properly. However, the tail pitch links don't quite allow the tail slider to move freely across the tail rotor shaft when snugged up. I loosened them until I had free movement across the entire tail shaft, then CA'd the screws in place. Tail authority was my largest complaint with the HBK2 until I had a buddy show me what the issue was.
Heres your specs: with my differences noted.
Specifications:
- Length: 535 mm
- Height: 225 mm
- Main Blade Diameter: 600 mm 288mm CF blades, better tracking and crisper response
- Tail Blade Diameter: 130 mm - Trex tail blades with roots sanded to fit grips
- Motor Gear: 9T Used a 10 T align gear, much better headspeed (faster = stable)
- Main Gear: 140T I switched to the Blade 400 gear. smoother and better running
- Gear Ratio: 9:140
- Weight: 470 g
- Battery: 11.1v 1500 mAh (Li-Poly) - CSRC 15C 1500mAh ...... 8 minutes of runtime
- Motor: 3900 Brushless Danlion 3800kv (mods to frame to fit)
- Transmitter: 6CH CCPM - DX6 (because i have one)
- Receiver: 6CH AR6000 (because it works with the DX6
)
- Servos: 8g 1.3kg-cm 0.12s/60 degrees (x4)
- ESC: 25A Brushless some report issues with thier Esky 25A's, both mine have worked flawlessly***
- Gyro: Esky Professional Gyro Logitech 2100T HH gyro (nuff said.......heh)
***
I am using the ESC's in a couple of my planes and never have had any issues, some report flameouts for no reason. I am guessing that overpowering an ESC with too many amps or keeping the throttle up after a crash is more likely of a cause. Most complaints are from those unfamiliar with electronics (n00bs) If one keeps the Amp draw to the suggested normal parameters they should work just fine. They are OK ESC's but not to be abused, they will not stand it.
Hope some of those comparisons help out scott. Let us know how it goes!

For example, I love the CF blades on my CP+ and would probably want to order a set immediately for the HBKII. Is there a model number for the main and tail CF blades that anyone can recommend? Extra Belt? what other parts (not bling or upgrades) are commonly broken and that I should have on hand? It says it comes with a 11.1v 1500 mAh battery. Is this the same one that is stock with my CP+? I have 4 of those and certainly want more than one for the HBKII. Is there another battery that is recommended instead?
Thanks again!

Mike ~
I gotta run into town, but really quick it was like $110.00 at the LHS ready to fly... The lipo is as small as a piece of Dentyne gum...
And you can get a plug and play for around $80.00 I believe... If you have a 2.4 ghz radio to bind it to... I use my DX-7...
Here's a video of it:

Hey Vic, these just might be the servo's you need. Found them through a thread over at helifreak. Could be a good replacement for the E-Sky ones and look at the price[X(]
Here is the thread I found them in http://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=92794 just folow the link to the servo in that thread.
I personally can't vouch for them but may give them a try next time I need servos.

Scott,
I just went through JAG's site and couldn't find the carbon fiber blades. You may have to make 2 separate purchases if you go with them. I found the HBKII RTF in white for $144.99 over @ UsHobbySupply.com and he also carries all of the goodies. I would highly recommend Michael @ USHobbySuppy.com for the purchase. I took Choppers/Dave's advise to the tee through PM's on the HBKII. Do each upgrade one by one and enjoy the flights. I flew mine right out of the box with the stock motor and ESC. Very little power but it flew. I then installed my Brushless and was amazed at the performance, but I still couldn't get the blades to track. It was either one up or one down @ various RPM's. Carbon fiber blades and extreme pro turnbuckles cured that.

turn buckles~ http://www.ushobbysupply.com/product...58122d95480643
Get some T-Rex tail blades, just works well... trust me
It doesn't look like he carries the Align blades but HDX.

43t tail drive upgrade is a great upgrade as well~ http://www.ushobbysupply.com/product...58122d95480643
Smooth gear w/ one way bearing Micro heli~ http://www.ushobbysupply.com/product...58122d95480643
The last and probably best is the Telebee Head Holding Gyro. What a difference! Full collective and the tail doesn't move! Very good purchase

Don't forget the Align pinions.9,10,11t set~ http://www.ushobbysupply.com/product...58122d95480643
I forgot the brushless motor and ESC! Two different motors to chose from, 3900~ drop in with no modification to frame, Never used it PM Dave, I think he has. ~ http://www.ushobbysupply.com/product...58122d95480643
3800 is what I use and in video~ http://www.ushobbysupply.com/product...58122d95480643

Those are some of the best an @ one site with 1 time shipping. Like I said Michael is great, I spent a lot of time with him on the phone when I placed both of my orders. Shipping was prompt and I was emailed tracking #'s, no surprises. The only time I've delt with Jim is calling to find he only does Paypal and I don't use that.
God Bless Ya Scott, anyway you go you'll love the HBKII.

Scott,
Jagshobbies does have the carbon fiber blades for $28 + about 3.50 shipping. I use them all the time and love them. Get extra stuff too. to offset the shipping. Still cheaper than gasoline to drive to the hobby shop..

Jay must have been thinking of flying.
Here it is about 3/4 down the page. Get the EK4-0005. http://jaghobbies.com/rc_planes/ek1h-e016a_cart.htm
Dave / Choppersrule

Jay,
Thanks for all the great info!
I would like to order a couple spare batteries. Which ones are right? Does the HBKII use Deans or JST?
Thanks!

Scott,
I just went through JAG's site and couldn't find the carbon fiber blades.

ESC~ http://www.ushobbysupply.com/index.p...58122d95480643
Those are some of the best an @ one site with 1 time shipping. Like I said Michael is great, I spent a lot of time with him on the phone when I placed both of my orders. Shipping was prompt and I was emailed tracking #'s, no surprises. The only time I've delt with Jim is calling to find he only does Paypal and I don't use that.
God Bless Ya Scott, anyway you go you'll love the HBKII.

Scott, I use JST on my HBKII and 1320's. No heat issues in the plug. A 1500-1800 would be perfect for balance
Not to say that Deans wouldn't do the trick.
Relating to the Deer thing, here's a video I don't widely promote. Watch the end[X(] This was a bad idea, I thought I'd be funny, and THANK God they didn't get hit by a car. Please understand that I will never do anything like this again and hopefully a lessen for others.

Yup......bad idea. Glad it turned out good though. Out flying the MX-400 one day, 7 deer eating at the edge of the field. I too like a goon, flew out to them. They looked up at it, and went back to eating.....it turned out good, I flew the heli back without incident.

Hey, Jeff.
Got Your last post; thanks for the heads up.
Dang it, You got Me hooked on stickers ! I remember commenting on How many stickers You had on Your heli, once.
I go everywhere buying stickers to splat on My heli; looks like I'm sponsored by everybody now!
ALIGN, READYHELI, HELIDIRECT, JR, SPEKTRUM, and I'm in negotiations with GLAD trash bags; they think the way I fill them up in the field with broken parts, it would be lucritive for Them.
People see My Mean Nascar looking Heli expecting great things from Me when I fly; what a letdown.
I'll have to post a pic as soon as My Wife gets back from Lincoln with the Camera. We have a Granddaughter now, so there You go.
Gary

Hey guys, I've been lurking, but since the CPP has not come out, and my HBK2 hasn't shipped I haven't posted. I think I have a hat cam figured out, so I might have to post vid's of the heli. Have fun all.
