SURPRISED about the questions around the large holes in the bottom of the fuselajes in ELECTRICs

they are purposefully designed to eliminate the progressively expanding hot air that may accumulate
off motors/ esc s / batteries etc.
They have ABSOLUTELY no bad effects on flight and/or performance.
Enclosed pics taken on this T-34 I just finished for my student (the one who DISSAPEARED into thin air
and has never been heard from since)
Anyone care to BUY a T-34 ?- this plane becomes my property (thru abandonement) in 2010 - HA !

Hey Rick!
I can't believe someone would take off and leave a T-34 behind! Any flying lately? I'm researching a big Stearman right now. I'm not going to do any fancy motors or anything, just that it'll be gas for a smoke system. Any progress toward flight on your Ultimate?

Jim,
Like Rick said you can't tell the difference in flight. The fuse can build up pressure though and it can cause canopy's and hatches to blow off if there not secured properly. The PH-3 F-16 calls for a small opening in front of the canopy to allow for cooling the batt but I cose to keep it closed for scale looks. My 2200's get pretty darn hot if it's 70 degrees out and I fly 6 minutes. If it's 80 or more degrees I fly conservatively for 4-5 minutes. Helis don't have this problem because everything is hanging out there in the breeze.

Blessings,

Jay

Rick and Jay- Thanks for the education. I was totally unaware of this feature. I see the need for cooling but never expected a hole in the fuse for it[X(] The guy who owns my LHS flys all electric (though he just got his turbine waiver) and he hangs all his planes from the ceiling of his hardware/hobby shop (he sells more hobby than hardware I think!). Anyhow, looking at all he has, I never seen a vented fuse before. He did show me the new Sukhoi that Jer just got. Man that looks sweet.

Rick- SO GOOD to see you post again.

Hehe, i just might have to pick one up as well, but we'll see... Monday the King 3 comes! (Was supposed to be today, but ah well, UPS Non-Saturday delivery)....

I have been getting some time in, took some video from the helicopter using my flycamone, but it was mounted backwards until I make a better setup for it, so all you see is the tail and my ugly mug

Tonight, I'm putting a custom LED kit in my black canopy, turning on the LED blades, light strings, and hope for a little night flying... and nevermind... I just looked outside at the wind! :P

Take care all, I'll play catchup on the last three pages after some food

That's awesome you have the Flycamone. I've always liked to try and fiddle with some aerial photography and video. So cool...! I have used my older Kodak camera before, but its quality is poor and weighs about 247 grams. I just recently got a Sony HD webbie cam, and its much smaller and thinner and only weighs a bit over 100 grams. I've tried using it with my Spektrum stuff (2.4 GHZ) and I get a "wave" of interference when I go back to watch the video. Eh...! With my Futaba 72mhz TX for my RC cars, there is no interference. So I don't know... Lol... I've tried it on the Logo 10 only so far. The Trex 500 I can try, but I'am sure its the same.... Maybe I'll construct a fiberglass mount that extends outwards towards the front of the heli, away from all components and have it stretch WAY out there. Thin, flat, and strong, or something to try... Its all fun either way messing around. I'am starting to think I enjoy that more than flying sometimes.

For your first trial run with your cam set-up, you should still post the video, I'd still like to see... Its all just a learning experience...

I love your LED stuff BTW... I've always loved LED set-ups on the heli's and planes. I've always liked the lights from the place called LiGLOW I think its called... But they were a Paypal only so I didn't go there. Its hard to find a good pure, bright, crisp, LED set-up it seems for me. I'am just to picky on how they look and perform is all. Lol... And the strobes, I like but I like them to look realistic and snapping quick on and off I guess you could say. Hard to explain I suppose...

I've had your website bookmarked now, and check it as you add stuff, but for the LED section that you just put out, my laptop pops up a small window saying it can't open it or something like that. I'll figure it out here shortly when I have more time, its probably some settings somewhere, or I need to update Internet Explorer or something. Dunno.. Computers aren't by strong point. Crashing is..........

Cheers,

~ Jeff

I'll try and post some goofy video madness up there tomorrow. I hear you on the interference, I purchased a wireless camera that (stupid me) was running on... wait for it.... 2.4Ghz... No interference to the flying, but my god the video was worthless. The Flycamone hasn't had any issue with it thus far, as it records to itself instead of transmitting. I will try the wireless camera on one of the 72 mhz birds at some point and try again.

Let me know if you still have issues with the LED page, I did find an obscure issue with some Internet Explorer versions relating to Javascript modifying a parent element from a child. Not a security risk, just more of a difference in how IE loads the HTML document in memory, parses, and displays. Other browsers don't have the issue. Ironically enough, four days later we tried putting something out on the company web site at work and the same issue hit. Talk about odd timing. If you still get that error, I would so *greatly* appreciate a screen shot so I can attempt to figure it out. I thought I had it nailed but I'll try and reproduce it again in case I missed it.

I'm working on some new LED setups as I learn more about electronics and microcontrollers (basically I thought it would be educational to understand and attempt to build my own lipo-monitor LED kit though learning and experimentation).

I posted the link to my LED blades on another RC site and one reply wasn't harsh, but more of a 'oh my god you're using lipos for that you'll kill someone' note. Although yes, I'm using lipos, I'm securing them with tape and shrink wrap, and although a hefty crash could cause some interesting lipo madness, any battery could be used, really, and I'm comfortable with these things as prototypes for my own personal enjoyment

The person that posted also referenced a method to not attaching batteries to the blades at all, and running the positive lead through the main shaft, with a brush/ring setup for the negative. I see where that's going, allowing me to just have the LEDs on the blade and tap into the balancing lead or receiver for power... But he never responded with any more detail. The negative collector / conductive ring has me a bit puzzled, I really don't know how I would do that. If anyone has any ideas or knows of some small conductive ring setup I could reproduce, let me know.

Seeing some crash reports as I catch up on these threads, I hope all repairs and/or replacements go smoothly. May your blades balance and your servos...serve. (It's late).

Quick edit and update... Well, seems the script issue was still rearing it's ugly head on content pages... Stupid 'Share This' button. I've removed it for now until I can get it working again at a later time, so it should be working.

By the way, if anyone out there ever does website maintenance or web development, I HIGHLY recommend browsershots.org. A nifty technical marvel that takes a snapshot of any URL and displays how it looks in over 90 browser/hardware/software configurations. VERY Helpful, I should have used it on the article page earlier, but it definitely helped me find the error.

For the brothers who are using REAL FLIGHT SIM. 4.5 and have all the Add-Ons :
this is the setting I am using now and it is so enjoyable that you might want to try it (if you like SLOPE SOARING ?)

AIRPORT : SIERRA NEVADA CLIFF

AIRCRAFT: BIRD OF TIME

SET THE WIND AT 7 mph

the only thing missing is that there is no "thermals" setting []
but on this frame you can stay AIRBORNE ALL DAY LONG

sorry about posting something so OUT OF SUBJECT - RICK[:@]

If you save the images to your desktop/labtop, then you'll be able to upload them through "post reply" and then simply copy and past the text. Sounds right, right?

If anyone is in the market for canopies for a 450, 500 or 600 class.. Hobbycity has 'em very reasonable for fiberglass ones.

Here's the site: Pages 2, 3 and 4:

http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...2&v=&sortlist=

Company hasn't arrived yet for the BrickYard 400.

Rick,

You can copy and paste the text here in the forum. But the picture probably won't follow the copy and paste procedure.
You can save the e-mail picture to your computer, (remember the file name) and then use the "Chick here to upload images and files" in the forum. That should get 'r done for ya.

HK450 UPDATE:

found what I think to be the issue with the tail....

Well, Dave was right "BACK TO BASICS" First, Read the instructions! It turns out I had the Telebee gyro mounted incorrectly, (However, no where in the instructions does it mention correct orientation when installing the gyro.) The correct orientation for the Telebee Dual Rate Piezo Gyro is with the label facing left, right, front, or back; just as long as the label is not facing up towards the sky. Figures, I mounted it like my GY401 with the label facing up! I was concentrating so much on the programming that I missed an error during the initial build and installation of the electronics.

Here's some pics of my HK450 with the correct mounting of the gyro....

Vic,

Man that plane looks nice. I hear the Corsair is a bit tough to fly, but I am sure with your experience it will be like walking the dog...LOL Man she just looks great! Good luck the maiden.

Lookyj,

Dang that is a nice heli. Me being an old Blade 400 flier when I built my T-Rex 500 and saw I had to mount the Gryo UP! I thought it was a miss print and had to ask others. Heck all of the 400s mount like the telebee label back. Oh well we both learned the same thing from different ends LMAO.

Me and Mike met this morning and with no wind I flew my MCX 3 times and my CX2 once and then the 400 for a low/slow pack just to keep my finger nibble. Mike flew his Lama and his CX2. he can now do slow but big circles clock and counter wise.........hes coming. There is just no breeze at all at 6:00 a.m. Might be the time to fly that new plane?????

Vic- The corsair has lines like no other and someday I will bild one. Yill then I will admire yours. It looks sweet and ready to show its graceful lines in flight. Be sure to let us know how it goes. I hear that you need to keep speed up on landing so as not to stall it.

Jeremy- That looks like you solved the problem. So you set ou to build a 3D bird on the cheap. Can you give us your impressions so far? Motor, servos, telebee?

JPEE- Wow, I thought I get up early to fly. I usually hit the field about 7:30 but 6 AM?? You got us all beat there! How does teh CX3 fly? Didn't you have issues with it or was that a friend who couldn't get his to fly?

Rick- I wish I had G4.5 to try that out. I have never done any sail plane flying. Looks like a real relaxinng time.
