Wheeeeeeee.......... Blade CP!

Jay,
I am protected becasue they dont know where I live? I sent 'emial" to the Los Angeles bla bla bla website, ya think I am nuts and would rock my own here where I live and fly,
no-way Jos'e. And your 500% right, it is better to ask for "forgiveness than permission", and that has worked well all of my life EXCEPT on my wife LMAO.......
I'll keep you guys abreast of what they say.

Hey Guys,
I'd like to get input on where you all store your Lipos. It seems that just after a few years I have a bunch of these in varying sizes and quality of manufactures. I might be more paranoid than other but I use cinder blocks covered by cement pavers and store them in my basement.
What do you all do?
JPEE,
I'm interested in what they say. Can't people just let us have fun[X(]
Blessings,
Jay

I had a CSRC lipo sack but in moving the bag got a rip in it. So now I got nothin(plastic bowl on table)wish I still had some old ammo cans(I might look for one) that where I would store them.

Jay...all went WELL today. Yeah, war birds and trees, hummmmmm. The EXI....haven't done anything to it, no time today, besides, we picked a nice WINDY day to have other business, no loss.
Batteries....I got mine on a sawhorse bench with all the chargers (basement). I have a charged pile, and NOT charged pile....total of 8, not including the one in my TX. Being safe is fine, so don't worry bout that. I store mine in a climate controlled area on a NON metalic surface...just like you should store an automotive battery. ALSO...a battery should NEVER be stored ON concrete...it's BAD for them, but I cant remember why.

Lead acid batteries should not be stored on the concrete because it drains them if you have to put them on the ground use plywood under them.
Vic,
Very much glad to hear everything went well and yes what a windy day[X(] A few storms just blew to the south but you could hear the thunder. They must have been pounded.
On Lipos~
Not only is it a good idea to store them in a safe box or area for fire reasons but for us animal lovers. My dog got a hold of my wife cell phone a few months back and almost punctured the battery. Being Li ion that could have been disastrous. The cell phone batt had a hard plastic cover, our lipos don't so it would just take one chomp. Just thinking out loud

Jay

Vic- good to hear the damage was minimal. Trees have a habit of eating planes. Well light poles too, right JPEE??!! LOL
Jay- I admit I don't store my lipos in any special way. I charge and keep them in my basement on the work bench. I've only ever had one puff on me during charging. I grabbed it quick with winter gloves that were handy and took it outside. After it cooled down , I buried it out in the woods by the house. I now have 1 chipmunk that glows a bit at dawn! LMAO!! Nope, nothing ever dug it up.

Are any of you guys running lipo batteries in your Futaba Tx? If so what voltage and capacity? Just noticed that the system I want comes with a 9.6v 600mah nihm. I dont know how long that'll last me if I'm flying all day. Right now I have enough lipo to last me a little over an hour of straight running and I dont want my Tx to start dying on me. If you guys know where I can get a nice lipo for the Tx please post a link. Also will 11.1v kill the Tx? Thanks, Joe

Hello Joey,
I have been told that we should not use Lips's in a TX as for some reason they burn out a spacific part inside tets, rets, fets, or something like that. Be cautious. I was also to told that if you use a LIPo it will void any warrranty in a transmitter. If is lasting power you ant just get a battery with mAh. Also most TX's have their own chargers which are made for NiCad or Nims and wont charge a Lipo.
I wished I knew more but I an sureothers wil chime in.

Joey,
Wish I could help in this area but I can't. I have never seen them used in Futaba. I have one 500mah and I believe my other is a 600mah. The plugs are right there in the compartment so swapping is easy. The 600 mah NiMh is new because mine a Nicad. I'd like to get a bigger capacity batt for the transmitter as well but I think I'll use NiMh batts.
Ask Bax over here~ http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/forumid_125/tt.htm
He's the moderator and guru for the Futaba radios.
Let us know what he says.

Its the FETs (field-effect transistor) as far as I know lipo's don't come in 9.6v. The reason is the FETs are only rated at 9.6v and could push 10v but 11.1 is gonna kill it and 7.4 isn't enuff. I you know which FET is the limiter you could replace it or double stack them but then the voltage will probably fry somthing else.

2.4ghz radios use way LESS power than the 72mhz FM radios. My DX6i uses 4 AA rechargeable batts and since Feb have only charged them a handful of times.

Wonder how electrical drain occurs like that? You have neg/pos poles that never touch the concrete and as far as I KNOW, concrete is NON conductive....hummmmm.

Concrete is not normally conductive but it is more a temperature thing. Lead acid batteries produce heat during their chem reaction process concrete dissipates the heat then battery starts over trying to balance itself again.

Hey,
Kyle,
Thanks for clearing that up for me. I am NOT a wiz on electronics but knowing ac/dc electrcial I can comprehend what your saying. I know I did a poor job tying to tell Joey, but it was more of a warning flag flag for hime rather than a full explanation. Thanks again.
Well I am middle of the T-28 rebuild which next to balsa planes is a joke but still a lot of work. I have to remove the servos from the old wing and fuse and reinstall them in the new one and goop in place. Then I went to reinstall the ESC into the new fuse and found the new fuse had a poor glue job so I had to reglue at least 3/4 of it and will let it sit over night, dont want to use fixer. Then I saw that several of the wires on the ESC were stripped in places so I had to slip over some heat shrink, I dont want a short in the air.
Something interesting, when my servos strip from a crash it is the main gear and generally one or two teeth. As that main gear only turns like 1/3 of its total diameter I tried something. I took off that gear and turned it so as to put the stripped side to the back. Then marked and hooked up the servos over and over and over again and it centers perfectly and that side with the bad tooth stays on the backside unused. This would be a great field repair if needed.
Oh, I was at the Park at 5:45 a.m. and and had the helis on a table I bring by my tailgate. Up rolls a Police Car! They get out and I think ok, I am gonna kicked out. No but rather they were so impressed with the helis they asked if I could fly one. So I sent up the 600 and flew low and high and then over by where they were standing (a safe distance) and they were in really impressed.
My buddy that lives across from the Park that is my noob trainie with his new 400 was late and in bed. He had the window open in his bedroom which is 150 yards from where I spooled up the 600. He said he herd the wine of the motor and it woke him up and in the car he came LATE LOL. It made me think, if he can hear it so can others. So perhaps I'll keep the 600 down until like 7:00 a.m. as there are no bushes or trees between us so I can see where the sound could travel. I dont want a complaint of course.

Funny story here:
Liz had a dental appointment this morning at 11 am. It's been raining cats and dogs all night and still is. The streets are flooding, think we are at about 6 inches of rain so far, Yikes! Anyway, she was on her way home from the dentist and stalled her car out going through some deep water. (Dumb ***** move there). I'm down stairs, she comes in soaking wet and says the car broke down. It's only about 1 block away. We jump in my car to look and see if I can get it started.. We get there and the flipping car is FLOATING AROUND IN THE STREET, LMFAO! I took my shoes and socks off in my car and rolled my pants up to my knees.
We walked over to the car and pushed it about 60 feet (flosting about 20 feet) or so to where there was no flooding. Car wouldn't start, so I'll go back in a few hours and try again. If it doesn't we'll push it home and I can blow the engine off with my air compressor. What a day so far. (No water got inside the interior, it floats pretty damn good, LOL!)
Later,
Dave

LMFAO....you should have told her to grab the oars and git 'er home. Oh....what ever you do.....don't open the doors yet. Hope you had full coverage on the insurance, you might need it. I'm sorry Dave, but this is truly some FUNNY stuff here. I hope your damage is nill...my fingers are crossed guy.

Hi Kyle,
Here is a short read for you to consider. I have heard this for sometime and ofter this up food for thought. Let me know what you think.

NOBODY can SYMPATHIZE more with Dave than the underwritten : been through that gate twice before, and "almost" there again for the third time last year with " IKE "
DAVE : I truly know what you go through, today. I sincerely hope that you get by with no damage. Both my cars ( Buick Regal '94) and ( Nissan P/U '97) didn't quite get to float, but the Buick levelled the water in the garage with the bottom of the doors. And that water level stayed on for 40 hours. With " ALICE " in 1983 I got myself into water that was as high as the top of the hood and ONLY
because I have manual transmission was able to keep it going to the other side. Passed 1 late model Cadillac, 1 ambulance and 1 Chevrolet PU all of which had ingested water and were dead, right there. Going past I couldn't help but make a WAVE and I am
sure I got cussed for three generations to come, but did manage to keep the engine going with throttle pressure.
RICK-FLOODS are NO JOKE - two pics. of IKE the photo was taken from the front door and in the back....two INCHES more and the house would have flooded. it came that close... I may want to ADD that my house sits on the HIGHEST LEVEL of this neighborhood, take a look at the parked car in the pic, just two houses away and the water level there is up to the doors. The neighbor down the street had put his car on MY drive , to save it.
Best wishes

Rick....I know floods are no joke. I lived in Norfolk VA and went through a close one with a hurricane in the early 80's. The road I took to work had 6ft of water on it, I had to take a different route to work for a few days....most people couldn't make it in (Shore Drive along the Chesepeake Bay). I'm NOT used to seeing that kind of water in the MidWest either.

Dave- Though what happend is truly sad to hear, I read your story with a smile on my face picturing you walking up to a floating car and saying, "Honey, how did this happen?". I hope the damage isn't too bad and you get it running again. Glad that Liz is OK too!
Jpee- It's good to make friends with those cops, bring doughnuts next time you go fly! LOL Just kidding. I'll bet your heart sank when they pulled up, right after you sent that e-mail off too!
I dumped my Flasher this AM. All was well and doing the normal things when I decided to do a roll going directly away from me (tail in to my body in other words). Well, When she came out of the roll it was flying backwards toward me. Having just come out of inverted hoer practice, I gave back when I should have given forward and drove it into the ground. Damage looks to be a fly bar, feathering shaft, and maybe a main shaft-havent checked yet but no visible bend in it. The canopy has a little battle scar but the metal head, tail, frame, and skid all survived with no apparent damage. Oh..... the glue for the boom support horns pulled out but the supports themselves didn't break. Just need to CA them back together. I'm not happy to have crashed but am happy it held up very well in the mayhem!

Ha Dave!
Bad story but well told. I hope the water just got on your distributor and not sucked down the engine hydro locking it.
Vic,
You crack me up

Glad that worked out. Been there done that and they just wanted to watch to but there is that feeling of.... Crap I'm in trouble
Jim,
Sorry to hear about your crash. I'd a blamed it on those darn bugs! I hope you get er going again soon.
I got 2 flights on the F-16 this morning. That's just too darn fun to fly[8D]

Jim,
SORRY to hear about the mishap. As always it could have been worse for sure! But even at that, it still hurts when one of girl's goes down doesn't it? Giver a face lift and getter back out and up there.
10-4 on the donuts, but they only go to Starbucks now, scones, muffins and cresents, with a Lat'e are the new donuts and coffee for them, lol.
