Default OUCH...Blade CX2

So, I have had my CX2 for about 2 weeks now and have gotten pretty comfortable with it. I've been flying it outside and it's been an all around decent bird. However yesterday, I was up about 20 feet or so and all was well until I tried to make a banking turn with rudder (think coordinated turn here). Left aileron/ left rudder and then came the dreaded blade CLACK. The blades were DESTROYED in mid air. The thing came straight in (nose first) onto the concrete.

I guess I was lucky, because the damage was to both blade sets (obviously), the flybar, inner/outer shaft and the forward fuselage section. My question is.....HOW DO I KEEP THIS FROM HAPPENING AGAIN ??!! It was a relatively gentle turn and should not have ended in catastrophic failure as it did. I have heard about different inner/outer shafts, but do they work ??

This just seems like a design flaw on an otherwise great flying heli.

Thanks !
Robert

It sounds like there was too much wind for you to fly, co ax helis do not do good in even the slightest bit of wind, sounds like when you tried to turn the wind forced the blades into each other ( seen it b4) I would advise stayin indoors unless there is not wind at all

This is going to sound crazy, and I am the only person that I have seen comment on this but...... get the boomtown hobbies skid and tailboom kit from Jamie or eBay. I swear my blade strikes reduced after getting this. I think part of my strikes may have been cause by either the wash off the original canopy, or the blade striking the canopy and deflecting into the other blade. Yes, you can get the Dynam vortex inner and outer shafts, and get a aluminum eflite head hub for the inner shaft. It will all link up and spread the blades apart just a touch more and has been reported to reduce the strikes. I tried this and my attempt failed due to the TBE I seem to always get with the aluminum head hub. Have tried 3, all three seemed to hold the flybar too tight or something. I gave up on it. Others have succeeded. Again, I know the tailboom theory sounds nuts, but my strikes decreased with the mod. Also, I suffered the exact same type of crash as you. Mine was from 25-35 ft up though and it did the death spiral to the asphalt!!! Canopy was destroyed, front and rear. I got the boomkit the next day by chance and got a yellow cx canopy at the LHS and was back in biz! I think BPhobbies and slickzero both carry the dynam vortex parts. I would do that and not get the "kit" you see online for this. The "kit" consists of the same parts relabeled and priced much higher.

All of Diggy's advice is excellent. In addition, you might want to try a lighter flybar. I use that from the Dynam Vortex, available from the suppliers Diggy mentioned. Hopefully SoloBoss will pipe in with his expertise on flybars. It'll allow your heli to change directions a bit more easily with less potential blade clack.

All thats true but I still think wind is what caused his blade clack

Thanks all....

I did all of the above! I purchased the Gen 3 boom and skid set on e-bay last night. I also purchased the vortex inner/outer shaft and shortened flybar kit from bladecxpro.com and the aluminum head from Microheli. (Though after reading some other posts...I hope I don't have any problems with the parts from bladecxpro.com). I just want to do all I can to make sure this doesn't happen again.

As for the wind....perhaps that caused it. There wasn't much by way of wind out there, but perhaps it got a gust up high. I bought an inner/outer shaft from the hobby shop and straightened the flybar last night and she flew fine. There was a little bit of vibration, but I think that is from the flybar. When the new one comes in, that should take care of that.
