I was thinking of making my own cryodrive shaft, just for fun. From there website, the comparative pics show 3 different shafts, Orginal, Vortex and Cryodrive. Using this pic as a linear scale, I figure the Cryodrive is about 22mm longer then the original.
Anyone one one and can confirm this for me?
I've picked up some 2mm piano wire (not as good at Ti, but it'll do for now) and I'm going to build myself a few prototypes to see how it flies in the wind (I'm bored of hovering around my garage!)

Let us know how it works out. At $47.50 for the Cryodrive the only way I would buy one is if it came with an unconditional lifetime replacement warranty.
I have some background with cryo treatments and I can see no practical application for cryo treated parts on the CX2. In my opinion, the company would do better to drop the cost of the cryo treatment and sell the part at a better price.
Been down the cryo road with competitive rifle barrels and I can tell ya from experience that cryo treatment is not worth the cost/effort for many applications that cryo companys claim.
Bye the way, I am 50-years old and have worked in the steel manufacturing industry for 30-years. I've been around a lot of manufacturing and have formed some pretty hard opinions

Cryodrive is the CF rod idea stolen from this forum and put them in Heli-Max gears, This guy who makes them is known to take other peoples idea and trys to sell them. He does this with e-bay and has horrable feedback/rating. I posted the first CF rods mods to share the knowledge with everyone, it was never indended nor permission was ever given for someone to profit off of it.
Pirellip is probable right, there would be no benifit to freezing it.
There is one big problem with CF shafts, They get damaged when you screw in the lower head assembly and can only be dissassembled a few times before they need to be replaced. So spending $50 on cryodrive is a very bad idea. RMG2 has is right, you need to make your own and have a couple around for replacment.
As for the length goes an extra 22mm is a bit high. Most upgrades are at 5mm + additinal 5mm for the upper head, so start off with about 10mm extension first and see how that goes. If you are a xtreme hardcore flyer then 15mm would be ideal. Goldslinger was the first to extend CF rods, I believe he has a total of a 10mm gap and seem to love it. Try them both out and keep us posted.

Dear Mr Rice, It would be nice if you would talk more about something you actually know about rather than making your ignorance so profound. You need to understand metallurgy to truely understand what takes place during the Cryo process. The information is up for everyone to read, as far as stealing someones idea, I would have bought one from you back when I was building my craft, but you didn't exist. We simply built the craft, and as a proud American, I wish everyone to enjoy what we have created. We are also developing even more upgrades and self building directions. While you bellyache and whine, we are working to setup directions to build exactly what is shown on the videos. That is right, we have proof the craft does what we say, so please continue to bloviate. It makes me laugh, the truth will seek its level as we go out of our way to help the hobby. Cryohobby.com

thats nice
Profiting off others is a way of helping..Taking other ideas and selling them as your own.. So how many assisting post have you made other then listing your product? Now who is here in this forum to help and who is trying to profit again??
Your right I don't have experiance with Cryno's but it seems RMG2 does and his 30 years of working in the steel industry make me want to take his words.

Just a small P.S. to the last post, We created Cryodrive because of the pot metal that comes out of China. If you increase the distance, you increase the stress on the part. The metalurgy of the Chineeze shafts suck. We are using American suppliers with a "Mill Certification" showing what the metal is actually made of. Just that alone makes it a superior product. Dear Mr. Rice, show me your millcertification of your shaft please! I would also love to see your documentation of how your carbon fiber is created. A sales receit doesn't count.

wow, and have you looked at where you gears are manufactured? yes, thats right CHINA! Now talk all the crap you want about china's cheap crap but look around at all your products in your house you Hippocrate, everything you buy is made in china. They invented gunpower
...offtopic. China will have a car in the U.S market by 2010 that will sell for under 7 thousand.

Dear Mr Rice, We do use a Chineeze made helicopter, it is sooo nice and observant of you to see this. I see your helmet doesn't interfere with your eyesight. We simply reengineered the craft and created parts where needed. We were tired of repackaging of parts, we hand picked exactly what we needed to do, what we do. Please, put up your video of your great flights.

We have tried many differant metals and composites. There are characteristics that we have observed that brought us to the conclusion, this is the best possibility at this time for everyone. If you were a real American, you would quit bellyaching and start working on something that is better than what we have come up with. That would benefit everyone here and abroad.

FXR, I was just thinking about our conversation and wanted to thank you for speaking in such a polite manner. You really made me think that you are an intelligent gentleman that I could have a normal dispute with.
Then I get this from your buddy MagicHobby who is also watching this forum
WOW!... Thats hostile. hmm. So is it my name of eat2muchrice making you think I'm not an American?....wow....born and bread in DENVER!...
FXR- I do believe in American products, besides "Fords"
and we do have superior metals over china. Tools like Snap-on, Mac are vastly better then anything china can make, and I do own them.

FXR, a gentle man indeed. You have earned my respect and I will take heed of that. I will stop nagging and bickering due to your calm explanations. I'm glad that we have met and that you've cooled the blaze. I’ll let you do what you want and for now on stay out of your business.
Dear Mr. Rice, I thankyou for the compliment. Yes my partner does get a bit upset when customers are emailed and undocumented claims are made. I do ask you to please forgive his tact but I do have to respect his position in the matter. We under no circumstances are stopping you from continuing with your production. We also reserve the right to do the best that we can to help the hobby. It is true that we do expect people to pay for the drive. There has been much time and money put into these parts and I do expect to at least, recoup the money put into the project. We have indeed built from scratch a whole new aircraft. It is crash resistant as well as illiminating the blade slap issue. I also love flying at night, the spinny thing happend when we broke the 3 cell barrier. We will put all the information on our site for everyone to enjoy this. I will not keep repeating the same information over and over on blogs. That is what the site was designed for, to see the latest upgrades and not all of them will be for sale, you personally will have to do the work. As a professional, I know that having a kit to fix the problems I had, would have been highly beneficial. Instead we started on our project last summer and the first thing I saw was the hoplight without all of the fancy drive gear. It was a prototype and it was mean looking. It still had all of its problems, blade slap, bendable drives upon impact, it sucked. We now have an altogether craft totally reengineered. You are looking only at one facit of the entire project and are obsessed with it. We will not use what you tell us to use, we already have CREATED a whole new material. I can personally tell you that, your carbon fiber put under the microscope next to ours, would not be the same. Also, a rockwell hardness test would also show the discrepancies between your material and ours. We created the ENTIRE drive line for impact resistance. Please understand I am trying to explain to you what is already on the site.

Did I read that the manufacturer can Cryo freeze stainless steel to the point where it converts to spring steel? I've been working stainless 304 and 316L for years. I'd love to keep the look and polish of stainless with the resiliance of spring steel. I could be RICH! But it sounds like bunk to me.
As a professional in the steel industry, does the whole idea of stainless steel spring steel work for you?

I have heard of this cryodrive and have stated to you that I would not pay full price for essentially testing their products and giving them free advertising, when all we have heard here is heresay. You want to sell some product? You want to prove that your products are superior? Then send a few of us test units for free to evaluate, with the stipulation that the goods should be returned if not found adequete or the tester can be given a discount if the review proves positive.
You are going to have avery hard time penetrating the U.S. market with the strategy that you are using and the enmity that you have already seem to have generated.
My $0.02.

Dear Sir, I totally respect your view of claims on face value. That is one of the reasons we put the videos up. The one I am looking forward to is our crash video. I have been a welder in the past and am now a practicing steel inspector in Los Angeles. ICC, CWI, Los Angeles City licenses I do have, but in no way to I feel like I'm an expert, there is sooo much to know and learn. All I can basically tell you is this...... we found something I can crash and fly again.... thats it... it works. Any more than that you can talk to Merlin on the phone, once he fixes it.... lol. Yea it works but he told me that it cuts him off after a certian time period. Now I have to get a new phone.... lovely.

Dear Sir, I have enjoyed talking out here. I never actually posted on the blogs but when my pal told me about Mr. Rice, I couldn't resist. The site is there, if there is something you like it is up to you, I have a career, I just thought it was cool to make something out of practically nothing. I personally have nothing to prove. I am a believer in the truth will seek its level.

This is the most read forum on the net; the cheapest advertising would be to throw 6 CRYOS out there to a few members and write it off as advertising or sampling.
Reluctance to do so would speak volumes to Me, personally.
