Scott - it was the KDS Flymentor not the new FBL ebar that I was trying to fly! I don't know what 4011 or 4010 tape is. I used some stuff I picked up at the dollar store! I'm guessing that's prob NOT good! LOL

Chuck,

It's Scotch 4011 or 4010. You can find it at places like Meijer, Home Depot, Walmart, Lowes, and probably your local hardware store. It's labeled as outdoor tape capable of holding five pounds.

Thanks, Scott.

The relatives were gone for the day & it was pretty warm & humid, so I spent some quality time in the workshop. Finally finished cleaning up the swamp buggy & if it's not too windy tomorrow I will maiden it on the lagoon.

I aslo finished the F4U FunFighter & again if it's not too windy, I should maiden it in the next couple of days. I'm hoping it will be a "good" park flyer.

So now I can try to find the problem w/ the Flymentor 450.

Chuck,

Here's a picture of the tape if you can't find it... Note 4011 about 1/4 the way from the bottom on the left side of the package.

Ok Guys
Tested the hughes. Seems very responsive although I cut down the aileron throws and i had to fix the pitch curve back to a 50-75-100. I dunno if not flying for so long had me nervous, that I made a rudder input unconciously. I set it down quickly and it it now on the table for a tail-mechanism go over. To find the time to do that is a beast LOL.

Excellent, Scott. I'll pick some up this weekend.

Phil - too bad I don't know what I'm doing as I have a lot of time & would be willing to help but you'd not want to trust me! LOL

Took the airboat out yesterday in very calm conditions & it was well behaved! It will make a good rescue boat for the Shockwave 26 BL coming next week!

Not so good w/ the F4U FunFighter. I thought it might be too much plane for me. I had it in the air yesterday for over two minutes & pulled a real rookie mistake, I looked down at the Tx to set a trim & when I looked back it had dropped into the tree line & I had no idea which way it was headed. Except we all KNOW where it was headed. The prop & the spinner mount were history but the rest looked OK. I took it out again this morning & got about 30 seconds in the when I lost complete control & it slammed into the gnd. Snapped the fuse. I think I can glue it but I think I'll put it on the back burner until I'm better!

Just to make myself feel better I took the Tuff Trainer for a spin. No damage & I was smart enough to quit when it started having trouble w/ the wind!

It looks like the glue will hold but I'll' let it get some shelf rash before I try again!

It's been very windy & stormy here so no chance to fly the new FBL heli. I'm getting frustrated. The Flymentor is in the shop & nothing jumps out at me so far.

Anybody want a HorizonHobby 15% coupon good through 30JUN13? It's good at their website or participating retailers. Let me know & I'll PM the code.

Have you guys ever swapped out just a Rx on a heli? Other than binding it did you have to do anything else? I'm guessing the mechnics will definitely not change & all the settings are in the Tx, I assume (oho, there's that word again!)

As I was going over the Flymentor 450 & found the Rx hanging off the double sided tape & there's no where to tie wrap it to the frame. So I'm thinking of replacing the HH Rx w/ a HK hard case & removing the unused gyro & mount the new Rx on the gyro shelf.

But you will do your checks Sir Chuck to make sure....servo still at 90 degrees at mid stick, level swash travel etc and you should be good to go. If you change the model of the RX for instance from a 2110 to a 2110E or so on, it will be good to check; I would. i dunno if you have this saying stateside but it is said "D sure is better than c0ck sure"

As long as you're swapping with the same receiver brand and model, you're good with the checks cousin Phil suggests.  If you're going to a different receiver brand (say from Orange to Spektrum or vice versa), go through all the setup again, again as uncle Phil suggests!

I'm anal, though... if I pop a link off the head, I go through a complete setup again.   I do what big daddy Phil says regardless.

Thanks guys, if I swap Rx's I will check & recheck everything.

However, I just fired up the electrics & 1 cyclic servo is hardly moving (explains veering to left!) & is backwards when I move the pitch stick! I haven't touched any of the settings in a year! I tested the servo on the servo checker & it seems fine. I tried restoring the saved program & that didn't fix anything.

If I reverse the one backwards servo in the Flymentor, all the directions are ok but it travels way more than the other 2 servos when I move the cyclic stick. I'm wondering if the Flymentor has gone south to visit Phil! I'm stumped at this point.

If it is the Flymentor do I replace it or scape this very old heli or convert it to FBl or ...

I really found this to be a very stable flier & I would miss it as it's my go to heli.

Still raining & windy. I can't keep up w/ the growing grass. Anybody got some goats they could lend me!

Chuck

That's a really odd one Chuck. I'd do a fresh setup in a new spot on the TX and see if it still has issues.

Phil - Baaaa & thanks! LOL I went out w/ the lawnmower & almost melted like the Wicked Witch of the West it was so humid out there! I grew up w/ an aunt who had goats - evil critters! But interesting, esp the one named Devil!

Ivan - good idea. I think I'll try that before anything more drastic.

Took the Shockwave out this morning but both batteries I took where bad - 1 lasted 45 seconds & never got it on plane, the 2nd did better but only lasted 2 minutes. Sigh... I'll need to make an adapter to use my truck new LiPos.

Scott - I finally found the 4011 tape. Can't wait to try it. Thanks again!

Phil - LOL!

One thing I'll also try before I redo everything on the Flymentor is a re-bind. Ya' never know.

Made the battery adapter this morning so I can use the Slash packs on the Shockwave. Now if the wind would die down a bit...

You are welcome, Chuck! :-)  That stuff is so good, we use it in a lot of places besides helicopters!

The winds continue so I got on the sim for awhile but it just isn't the same. So I broke out the mCP X & flew in the frontroom (no recliners were harmed during the flights). 1st pack did fine getting a feel for it again. 2nd pack, it drew blood when I lost control & tried to save it - with my knee!! LOL 3rd pack one of the servos failed & slammed it into the ground. New skids & new rear servo & 2 cleaned servos later & she's up & flying again.

Phil - where's those sheep??? I had to cut the d@mn grass the other day & it was about knee high! LOL
