It is just evolution here. After sampling the great performance of the 47" Extra, you instantly had to wonder how great the 55" is........and desperately search for a larger place to fly it so you can justify getting one. Then wonder how to pay for the batteries. After getting past those hurdles, it is a wide open run to the finish line now
Some Plane Specs.:
- Approx. Flying Weight 5-5.5 lbs or 80-88oz. (varies slightly based on battery choice)
- Dimen. 55" Wingspan x 56" Long w/ 640 sq. inches of wing area
- Requires (5) Hitec HS-225MG or HS-5245MG Serovs, or a combination thereof. I am looking at using the HS-225MG on the Ailerons & Rudder, and the HS-5245MG on the (2) Elevator servos - it is setup for one servo per elevator section.
With an all up weight between 80-88oz, and looking for some crazy power around 200watts per pound at WOT, you are looking in the range of 1,000-1,100 total watts. Using the TP3850-5SV - V2 5s Extreme Series 18.5volt, somewhere around 65amps should do the trick. An incredible power to weight ratio.

RE: **3DHobbyShop 55" Extra SHP Build & Fly Thread**
I am finally getting some time to get this project going. This one has me really excited. I was all juiced up for the 47" Extra SHP project, and it completely lived up to the hype, if not exceeded it. So I immediately started wondering how great the 55" Big Brother would be
I wound of going with the White and Red version of the 55", we are in a coastal area and get a lot of overcast/patchy mornings, so I was a little concerned about losing orientation with the blue and white version. I am going really slow with this one, hopefully shooting for a maiden around or just after Christmas. So far I have just worked on the stress joints in the fuse and assembled the ailerons, and installed the aileron servos. It is one good looking plane though, that is for sure.
Equipment List:
Motor: Extreme Flight Torque 4014T-570 Revolution Outrunner
ESC: Extreme Flight AirBoss 80amp Elite Series
Battery: already shown - TP3850-5SV Extreme Series V2
Receiver: Castle Creations Berg 7P
Servos: Ailerons and Rudder Hitec HS-225MG (3 total) - Elevator Hitec HS-5245MG Digital (2 total)
Spinner: White Extreme Flight 63mm Elite with aluminum backplate

Here are some updated pics.
I got wrapped up in a bunch of stuff, so the build has gone really slow. Plus, I need a new radio for this bad boy. So no big rush...... yet
I will try and get some more pics up tomorrow.

Well, this project has been put off long enough. I had several 45-47" projects that jumped in front of this one, now this one takes center stage.
Just about done now, need to do a little more work with the graphics and hook up the linkages on the elevator servos and that's about it. Should have some MONSTER WATT readings by the end of the week
I am extremely happy with the quality of construction, and the covering scheme, sharp looking plane when all assembled.

The 55" SHP just goes to a whole new level. The airfoiled tail surfaces alone are a huge difference from the 47" SHP, the Velox might be a bit closer in comparison. It is definitely going to be fun to compare all three of those.
I went with a DX7. I needed it for the 2 Custom Yellow Velox's I put together as well, and really only wanted to make one radio purchase that would tie me over for a long time, and will allow me to move up to the bigger birds. Plus, I fly around town most of the time, so 2.4ghz was a must.
Nope, no stock yellow scheme........but.......custom yellow could be a possibility ......you just never know
