Default Indoor 3D setup?

Hello all,
What's a good 3D setup for indoors? Indoor meaning a school gym. This is what I have a now, Himaxx 2015-4100 with 6.6:1 ratio 12x6SF, 11x4.7SF props, CC Pheonix 25 ESC, 6channel GWS Naro Rx, (4) 9 gram servos, and a E-Tech 1200mAh 3S1P 11.1 volt Lipos. Right now this is on a 30" WS 540 Edge foamy that seems way to fast to fly in a gym. Could this setup be used on a smaller plane (Foamy, Balsa, EPP) that would be more fitting to fly in a gym. If so are there any Kits, Plans, ARFs up for suggestion.

The Ikarus shock flyers are absolutely great flyers. I hover around is a 30 by 30 foot room with 15 foot high ceiling. Of course I've hit the walls a few times but sure is fun. Weight probably shouldn't exceed 9 oz. The equipment you have would be too heavy for them I think. If you can get your Edge trimmed so it will hover hands off then you could fly it in a gym. It's all in the trimming. Hold the plane vertical, adjust throttle just enough so it wants to hover and notice which way it pulls. Does it want to start flying away or toward you. Adjust elevator. Does it pull left or right? Adjust rudder. Does it want to torque roll? Adjust ailerons. Then let go and grab it, let go and grab it and trim until it wants to just sit in a hover. In a small space if it starts flying level things happen fast so you want to be able to pull vertical into a hover whenever you want.

I'm about to spring for a shockflyer. What equipment do you use on yours?

Foamaholic,
I have this plan cut out of blue fan fold [link=http://www.foamyfactory.com/plans/UBSmall-23inch.zip]http://www.foamyfactory.com/plans/UBSmall-23inch.zip[/link] any suggestions on what I should power it with. I haven't weighed it yet. Thanks for the advice on the 540 edge Foamy

Thanks,
Mike

I have the 30". Very good flyer. For the 23" you would want smaller stuff than I'm using. Lots of people use Axi or CD rom motors. Don't know much about them. The new Himax outrunners are very nice, good price, and I'm sure would fly it well. Might be heavier than the Axi or CDrom though.
My brother uses one on his Ikarus Edge and it really goes. He uses 2s 1200 lipos which I think is a little heavy. Maybe he could use smaller ones. He uses Phoenix 25, 10-4.7 prop. His setup weighs about 9 oz.

Foamaholic,
Now I might be making this one. I e-mailed Tim about a setup to include all gear (servos,Rx,motor,ESC,etc...).

I built the 23" Ultimate powered with a AXI 2208/34, Phoenix 10 ESC, E-Tec 700mAh 2S1P Lipo, and three 9g Servos. Lets just say, It would have flown great on a lower rate than what I maidened it with. I had it on high rates when I maidened it. It snaped and hit the ground breaking the lower wing/fuse connection point. Looked at it and said what the heck, tossed it again and flew it around a bit, before it finally bit the dust.

I ordered the supplies for the Mini 3DX and Built it. I used the same set up for it that was used for the 23" Ultimate mentioned earlier. It flies great. Haven't flown it indoors yet. Once I receive my Christmas gift from my parents (a digital camera) I'll post some pictures. It should be here soon. Speaking of that, I'll have a lot of pics to post with other projects that are finished and ones almost finished.

I have a shockflyer, and Ive flown(cough) it a couple of times in a high school gym here. Im the laughing stock of all the other flyers when I take it up.

They all land, grab their planes and take cover behind the bleachers. LOL

Im OK at hovering, but not very good at hovering in tight spaces,so I just fly it in tight knife edge circles around the gym.....as fast as I can get it to go. I stand in the middle of the basketball court, and fly it in fast circles around me.

Lemme tell you, flying that thing inside a gym, watching it whip around at about 40-50mph is WILD. I set up my shockflyer for outdoor aerobatics, so its running a 3cell 11.1v LiPo, and a GWS 350. Its a rocketship. I didnt really design it for indoor flight.

I think it scares the local guys too much, so I dont think I will fly it in there anymore. They are all older gentleman that fly butterflys, and SLOW planes.

Right now I just finished a 22" Ultimate biplane and set it up for indoor flight. Im hoping it will be a little more docile, but still allow me to do the aerobatics I like indoors without making everyone want to duck and cover.

Want to shock people? Get a Hacker B20 26s 4:1 on 3s TP480. a 9oz plane have unlimited power at halv throttle. a full throttle burst and people get flabbergasted (spelling?)

bdavison,
What setup will you be using for the 22" Ultimate? What is it made of (Blucore FFF or Depron)?

I apologize for not responding....wasnt watching this thread...

As for the 22" ulitmate, I used the following

GWS RXC motor/gearbox
GWS pico 4ch reciever
Bluebird BMS-306 servo's
7.4V 340mah LiPo
Bluebird BSC-05AN ESC

It flys great. Its short on power, and lacks the vertical performance I wanted, but thats because I didnt build it light enough. It flys REAL slow around the gym. Its similar in flight to one of those Bugz planes...only difference is it has ailerons and can do rolls.

I got the plans off of jetworksmodels.com and built it out of depron.
Im not sure how much it weighs, but the key with this setup is build it as LIGHT as possible or it might not fly. Its a really docile plane with this set-up. Just needs more power.
