Can anyone suggest a small pattern plane for
a AXI 2826/10 with iether 3s2p or 4s2p Lipo
setup?
I would like a plane just to keep in the truck for
a lunch time flight at the field.
Thank you for the help.

hi advent
before i could give you any advice on the plane let's look what you have, makes it easier!
your motor will turn an apc/e 11 x 8 at 9700 rpm on a 4S2P1700 (3400) and at that will pull 43A (13C). you would need a 50A esc. all that stuff will weight in at approx. 20 oz. complete with wiring. the static thrust is 6,2 lbs and dynamic thrust at 72 mph still is a good 3,2 lbs.
since all those 3 ft fliton-planes like jumping jack etc are not really precise and you said you want a pattern and not a 3D-plane, i would be looking at something with about 48'' to 50" span with an empty weight not over 35 oz.
that way, you'll end up with a TOW of 20 + 35 + RC 8 oz = 63 oz and have a fair wing loading for pattern.
i don't know the market very well, but i would not be going for the EXTRA/CAP/YAK etc. scale-type plane at this size, i'd rather have a scaled down f3a-plane. pilot of japan used to make balsa kits in this size (for .30 glow) of the then famous planes from yoshioka, akiba. don't know if they still make them, but compared to the current 3D-hype, those planes were rock solid flyers. seems nowadays all people ask is "does it do torque rolls?" who cares? wanna hover? buy a chopper!
good luck shopping!

Hi, Advent:
I think the GWS Formosa-II will fits your need.
I upgrade my GWS Formosa-II to Himax 3516 outer runner brushless, APC 11x8 @ 8600rpm, total weight is 34 Oz. Poly-Quest 3S1P 2100mAh/20C Li-Po. With careful throttle management, it is able to finish one Master sequence plus two passes before run out battery. More detail can be found in NSRCA K-Factor March issue, my article "GWS Formosa-II for pattern", or my post in this forum.
Hope this helps.

I know it's smaller than your setup will power, but there is a new Brio 10 coming out from Horizon & Quique next month. It should fly the pattern very well and I have one on order from my LHS already. Can't wait to practice pattern with it. John, Lubbock, TX

Do you prefer foam or balsa, kit or ARF?
The Formosa 2 is a possibility. You might or might not have more motor than it really needs(?)
Kyosho has a few Japanese designs in about a good size, and the Oxalys 50 which is probably too big for that AXI (?)

Exverbrenner:
Thank you for the calculations... 4 pounds looks like a good target.
The only plane I could find in that weight was a Zen 30. Looks like
a good plane for conversion.
isjpeng:
I thought the formosa was way to small for this setup? I will look
again. Foam is not on the top of my list, but I will check it out.
parnflyr:
The Brio 10 looks real nice. If I had not purchased this setup I
would have waited for the plane to be available... Once it comes
out maybe I can stuff the 2826/10 in it !?!?
pertime:
Balsa kit or arf is fine. Foam would be last on my list.
CA model Epsilon 40 would be great if I could lighten it some
but from the pictures it looks lightened already.
I have seen pictures of a Zen 30 with the landing gear mounted
on the fuse and it lookd pretty nice. I think I read that the Zen 30
is discontinued ?

People have built different (electrified) versions of OKModel (Pilot) Seductions for under 4 pounds. I think Americans usually buy those kits from Singapore. They might be too "freestyle oriented" designs, though. http://www.singahobby.com/okm01.html

ZEN30
As an fyi; I have the ZEN50,90 &120; all gas. Now about the Zen30, I have flown someone else's Zen30 and found it to be very un pattern like; now it is quite possible that day was breezy and I may have got the wrong impression.
Though my primary interest is in larger gas powered pattern, I am just getting into electric (on the side) since my son is interested and can fly fine.
Last year I bought a .20 size pattern plane from rcu or ebay
Product Description
Rc airplane - Fascination 15 (this is a pure pattern plane, no 3-d stuff)
Wing span: 42.5 in
Wing area: 314 sq.in
Total length: 39in
Engine: 0.15-0.20
It is an excellent and beautiful arf construction. I have been busy with other projects and just about finishing it now; I have ordered an Extreme Torque 2818-900 which I plan to use in it; all up will be 32oz or a wee bit more and I expect it to be ballistic.
I believe the agent I bought this from also sells a slightly larger version of the same plane. If anyone wants I can try and dig up his email (if this is not common knowledge)

The Zen 30 would be perfect for your power system (axi 2826/10 4s lipo and 11x8.5e prop) I have about 120 flights on this same setup. It does make a great pattern plane. The kit has been discontinued but you may still be able to piece one together by contacting the us distributor airborn models. It would be worth it. The plane is 4 lbs even and will have 550 to 740 watts depending on battery choice. I would use a hyperion vx 3300. iTs easy to fly, and lands easlily. I use a CC phx 60 controller, and have just started playing with he dynamic braking(it works well). Here is a pic.
