Axi or Hacker?
#2
They're probably pretty close on efficiency but I've read a number of opinions stating that the Hacker can handle a bit more watts. I really like my axi but I now have 3 hackers because they give you all the extras like mounts and prop adapters for the same price.

I've been using AXI 2808 series motors for the past few months, and I love them. They're extremely efficient and they have plenty of power.
I've used plenty of Himax motors.... also a great motor.
I haven't used the Hackers yet, but I hear good reviews.

This is a silly poll. How do things like this get started?
Obviously most people have owned one, maybe two, but not all three. Most people will give a biased answer. Doesn't mean the answer will have the advantage.
Silly!!

You must take peoples comments within context, and if you do this these polls are useful. For example; Back when I flew pattern (.61/1.20 days) I was a OS guy and flew a Hano/Hitori combo. It made fun of the YS guys with their "long strokes", and pressure fuel system. Despite this OS/YS friendly argument, when it comes to 4cycles I would choose a YS 1.20 over a OS any day cause they made more power for their weight! So, in asking what’s better Axi, Hacker or Himaxx I’m not looking for raw numbers, I'm looking for the one or two replies that say "Well if you want pattern you should get X motor cause it will out perform the other, but if you want longer flights and aren't so concerned about power then you want this one." Or “get the himaxx for the gear drive”. So guess what! I got that info making your clamed invalid. Seams that Hacker has more power to weight, where the Axi has better efficiency and no one said I should consider the himaxx for the gear train yet. Since I want raw power, I know what I will choose.

The biggest difference in the two motors pictured, is how they are mounted in the model.
If your model has a plywood plate at the front, use one of the outrunners. If it has a square stick poking out in front, use the other.
They all make the turning thingy go around.

I agree on your thought about how this should work. Just seems to end up going the wrong direction most times. I'm saying this with a calm tone, not trying to start any junk.
You may have this in the wrong forum asking about the planes you are planning these motors for. Probably should be in the 3d electric forum.
That being said, I have a Fliton Inspire Mini with a Axi 2808 and a Extreme Flight Extra with a Axi 2814 with great power.
For pattern I use the Axi. Can you see that I have a biased opinion?
I have used the Himax's also. I can say I will never go back to a gearbox. They have good outrunners though.
Hacker makes great motors also. You can't go wrong with either.
If you do a search on your planes, you will find what people are using in them. Best way to make the decision IMO. Also search rcgroups..
I don't feel there is an advantage going with one motor over the other in the smaller planes. Except maybe weight.
Good luck with your new planes!!

IMO "Horses for Courses". I fly pattern with a Hacker. My choice was influenced largely by the weight. For shockies I prefer the AXI as it has mounts already welded. The Hacker equivalent which is more powerful is heavier especially by the time you have added the mount. It is also not ideal for back mounting when you want to use a prop saver. In my other planes I use Hackers mainly because they are a great price and come with all the accessories. I feel that having to buy them separately for AXI is a rip off. I also have several torque motors which are at least as good as the ones mentioned. Just my opinion.
