Hi Mickey,

Good to see your enjoying the FA-18 as well

Just in case anyone wants to see how easy the FA-18 goes together I have the FA-18 and Skyray build manuals online in PDF format [link=http://www.rtmodels.com/support.htm]HERE[/link] just scroll down the page. Our good friend Carl Tulanko does our HET-RC manuals and does a step by step build. Very nice work [8D]

Enjoy!

Thanks,

I agree 100%

the instruction CD's that come with the Super Sniper and the F-18 are extremely well done. The one for the Super sniper has 162 COLOR photos, showing all you need to know about construction. these planes are a pleasure to build. They are WELL worth the money. I just checked and the F-18 CD has 233 color instructions. Carl has some good ideas also and must be a hell of a builder. I have been building for more years than I want to admit but Carl has me beat hands down when it comes to Clever techniques.

Can anyone tell me if its possible to hand launch the Super Sniper? I've never used a bungee, nor is it practical at my club with others taking off and landing at the same time.

Neil,
You have to use a very powerfull engine and it stays more dangerous than a bungee launch.
And you will need enough wind.
I think better not.
Regards,
Look.

Beautiful sniper you have there Nickos.

Have any of you ever consider running 6 lipos? I have a 6s2p TP 4000 pack that I use and I wonder if it would be crazy to use it on the sniper. I run the numbers and a Hacker B40 13L would do a nice job:

36 AMPS
715 WATTS

Thoughts?

I'm looking to buy a sniper, but I would like to have the max performance out of the plane. Can someone suggest what motor and speed control would give me the best performance?

smokeyjoe,

I would not recommend hand launching the Sniper...with its smaller tailcone, it takes more time for it to get up to speed and that time means all the world a difference during a launch. Only one person I know of successfully launches his Sniper by hand, and that is a wild ride until it comes "on step". Also, you may wish to reconsider the 8 faup choice...the people that have tried that were disapointed with it.

Kelly,

One of the hottest combos imho is a Kontronik Fun 480-33 Brushless Motor or a Hacker B40-9L using a 60-70 amp ESC rated for 4C Lipos like the Hacker Master 70-O or Kontronik Jazz 55-10-32. Power it with a Thunder Power TP6000 4S3P or two of the new Kokam 3200 2S packs rated at 20C's in series to make a 4S1P and you will be pushing well over 600 watts of power...a pretty hot combo.

Tool40,

I used a Hitec HS-81MG Metal Gear for the Elevator and two Hitec HS56 Carbonite servos for the Ailerons. The wing servos do stick up pas the wing, so a friend of mine used the Hitec HS125MG low profile Metal Gear Servos in the wing.

Hope this helps,

Carl

hi carl. lipo's over here arent as good as you guys have over there at the mo.... errrrrrrrr thats why i had to go with faup's. but i am having difficulty trying to balance this model out. i think im going to split the pack in two an put them either side of the fan i've decided not to go with the hand launch after all did'nt fancy seeing it nose dive from launch. im hoping the rest the set setup is ok though..... mega motors 16 15 2 wemotec fan, jeti 70 3p opto esc. anyone have the dimensions of the thrust tube, i dont really understand the other one?????? does it improve performance alot????????????????????????????????????? thanx carl for the info.

I have been looking at the specs. for the eletric motors (fun 480-33, b40-9l) and I'm a newby when it comes to the electic side of things. But the specs. on the fun480-36 (4200 rpm/volts) and the b40-8l (3750 rpm/volts ) are higher then what you have mention, so in theory the fan should turn faster, which should make the plane faster. Can you give me our opinion on the motors and suggest speed controls that would work best with them. I have a freind that has a speed control that has a UBS connection for the computer, so you can program it , I will ask him the brand and see if they make a model for the above motors?

The 480-37 (there is no 480-36) has a kv=3700 so its "identical" to the B40-9L
The ESC you refer to with USB link is Castle Creations.

The optimum power package for the Sniper is:
Kontronik Fun480-33 / Kontronik Jazz55-6-18 ESC along with a 45A continous capable (4S) LiPo pack.
Everything else is a balance between cost/power and weight.
The Jazz provide BEC, no need for seperate rx pack.

If you want medium power, low weight and lowest cost choose:
Mega 16/15/2
Castle Creations 45
And a 50A capable (3S) LiPo pack (or 8-10cells)
The ESC provide BEC.

[>:] I´m just finishing the Super Sniper ARF and after a short mail to Schuebeler Fan´s they recommended me the Lehner 1530-11 (high Amps version )
and 5s Lipos 3200 from Kokam on 20 C. I think this configuration should be awesome performance and I´ll let you know and post a video as soon I flew it.
