Default arerobird trimming

When I fly my aerobird at full throttle it wants to climb all the time, I can reduce it to half throttle and then use the trims on the transmitter to achieve level flight, but when I want more power it just climbs. Is there any way to trim the plane up without using the elevator all the time to achieve level flight..or is this normal, I mean once you've got the plane in the air and cruising and you give it full throttle are you then supposed to control it with down elevator inputs to keep its nose level. Its just that when I read some of the threads they say ' I tossed her in the air and trimmed her up and was flying hands off straight and level' do they mean at full throttle if they do then I am doing something wrong ! If you do control the plane at full throttle with the stick then thats fine, because that's what I'm doing now, but it just seems a little clumsy...Hope you followed that..any idea's

Cheers

It's normal for a plane to climb when power is increased. Increasing power increases speed. Increasing speed increases lift. The plane's weight stays the same, so the only thing it can do is climb. Full scale planes need to be re-trimmed every time the throttle is moved.

Aerobirds are designed to climb in a more pronounced fashion than most planes. Its predecessor, the Firebird XL, did not have elevator control, and depended completely on throttle to climb and dive.

I would trim the airplane to fly straight and level at half throttle. You can adjust the tail according to the instructions to get it to fly level at half throttle with the trim centered, then use the trim to level the plane off as you increase or decrease throttle.

Thanks for the promt reply. I think I follow what you mean, but can you just check this to make sure I've got it.

If I switch on the transmitter with the battery in the plane on sport mode, centre the trims and then move both control elevators down about a sixteenth of an inch or so, and then secure the lines ( this is about the maximum distance the trim moves, and I get level flight on half throttle when I do this ) And the trim switch is then centered, and I can use the trim for full throttle ? Will this slight down elevator effect the climb out ? if so do I use up elevator to counter act this ? I've also been told that if I add the wing shim to the trailing edge of the wing this will help ? My last question is...what is the standard thing to do, level the plane with elevator stick while flying? or adjust the attitude of the tail ?

Cheers again

It sounds like the tail screws need to be adjusted. Read in the manual, it will explain it. If it climbs too much, back out the front screw one turn, and turn in the rear screw one turn. Try it and if it still climbs too much, repeat the adjustment. I have an Aerobird and you have to do this everytime you put on a new tail.

The Aerobird and the rest of the hobbyzone plans are designed to climb on full throttle.\

If you look you will see that hte motor is behind the CG and tipped down slightly. So, when you give it full power it pushes down behind the CG and pushes the nose up. That is the way the are designed. You can't really trim it out. You can give it some down elevator when you are flying at full power. That will level it out.
