hey guys, i've jusr recently purchased the hobbico superstar ep with ailerons. the first thing i noticed is that the right thrust angle on the engine seems to be alittle too much. but then that is the question what is too much? does anyone have this bird and is it normal to have that much right thrust any info would be greatly appreciated thanks

Hi,
I do have the Superstar Ep (without Ailerons) and there is a noticable amount of right thrust on the motor. I am going to include a photo of mine for guidance. Hope this helps.

Hi Aaron,
Hope you enjoy it. I just returned from flying mine (I have home made skis on it) and I also had added a steerable tail wheel. Not really needed but nice when I have wheels on.
Did you pick up any extra batteries? It comes with a 7 cell but I bought a 8 cell 2400 NiCd (Hobby Lobby - great battery but expensive) and a 8 cell 2000 NiMh (Tower). Performs better with 8 cells. That Electrifly 8 cell NiMh from Tower is nice and the cost is great. $24.00 now. I paid $20 on sale and wasn't sure it would have the capacity needed but it flies that plane great.
Electric is really great up here in the winter because it is faster getting ready to fly. No need to spend extra time fueling, cleaning up, etc in 20 degree weather!
Happy Flying,
Joe

Look at any glow trainer. They all have a signifigant amount of right thrust, as well as down thrust. I believe it's a function of the airplane's design, high-wing, flat-bottom airfoil. It's been my experience that they're more sensitive to changes in throttle than more aerobatic, neutrally stable types.

Hey Firestorm, you are really going to enjoy this plane. This was my first trainer, in fact, my only trainer. I loved it. Get some extra motors from Tower. They are about six to nine dollars each. I went through a few in the beginning. The plane now hangs in my pool room, the ceiling of which, has been turned into a hangigg airport. Still flys beautifully though. The amt of down thrust is normal for this plane.

Joe, did you make the skis, or purchase them at.....? I snowboard and want to put skis on either this plane or my heckler. I am inclined to agree with you though, when it's really cold convenient would be nice.

Hi Ten...
Yes, I made them. Piece of PVC gutter downspout with 1/2 inch pine and laminated with 1/16 ply (I used epoxy to secure to PVC). Heat gun helps form the PVC and I put one screw up front to secure it. Bracket is just flat bar aluminum secured with two bolts through the wood and a hole for axle. Spring is music wire with a loop on the axle screw end tightened with extra nuts to keep the skis at the correct angle. I had every intention of painting them but never got to it! Rather fly! I have probably made 100 landings with them this winter with no problems. Make some. Winter flying is really fun.
I bought a set of Dubro skis for another plane but didn't really care for the spring system. Looks like they have changed from ones I've seen at the field.

hey guys,
well the first two flights were great. i tell ya it's amazing how well it performs on it's own considering i'm pretty new to the hobby. i've been flying for about a month now. my first plane was a wattage decathalon with ailerons. probably not the plane that everyone would recomend being your first plane but i tell you for as small as it is. it can really perform some cool maneuvers. i had alittle bit of trouble the first time i flew it considering my ailerons were backwards but i had to switch the switch in my brain cause i didin't know how to change them untill i had it on the ground. amazingly i was able to get it on the ground in one piece. since i switched the ailerons it's been extremely addicting. i'm able to do some pretty cool maneuvers now including a pretty wicked flat spin thats pretty cool but the superstar was more to help my dad learn and like i said the first flights were great. we've ordered the buddy box so i can help him learn alittle easier. again all this is very new to me and i'm not much of an electrician so there's still a few questions out there that i've been wondering like charging of batteries. my decathalon uses a 9.6v 800mah Ni-MH battery and i have a super brain charger. now it seems that to get the most from this battery that i have to charge it at .5 amps but it takes forever. the preset amps for the charger is 3.0 but i was told not to charge at that many amps. i guess the major deal is i'm not getting hardly any flight time and it takes forever to charge the battery so it's like i drive over to the field make two flights that maybe only last 6 or 7 minutes if i'm lucky and my day is over. thats dissapointing when it's so addicting. the battery for the superstar doesn't take nearly that long to charge. i don't get it and what do i use to discharge the batteries. this is all very confusing . i have a very large nitro trainer that i have put together but i like being able to go to a field thats right around the corner and fly the electrics. so i'm really trying to figure out how to lengthen my flight times. any advise would be greatly appreciated thanks aaron
