Something to watch out for. At least I've found it on mine. The landing gear wires tend to rust. Just enough that the wheels bind. Only took me 3 or 4 tries at taking off before I realized it wasn't the grass slowing her down. I think the skid mark from the nose wheel in the grass, is what caught my attention. Or maybe how it nosed down on roll out and wanted to nose over. DUH! Yeah trying to take off with the brakes locked on does tend to make flying speed a little harded to attain. Tried spit, even some oil off the van's dipstick, no joy. Had to drive home and remove the collars and wheels and sand the rust off.
Liberal amount of grease should hold up I hope.

At the risk of galaxy-sized understatement, nice job Greg. You are the man.
How does it fly? Can you transition from vtol to normal flight while off the ground?

I have a question about the Magister. I had a Hobbyzone Supercub for a short while. When you turn the rudder, the plane banks and turns. In Flight Model Simulator, the Super Cub is the same way, but other planes which have ailerons don't respond to the rudder very much at all, and certainly don't do the big bank and turn when the rudder is turned. They have to be piloted with the ailerons and elevators.
What about the Magister? I'd like to have ailerons, but i don't want to give up that ability to turn without them. I'd like to be able to poke along not even using the ailerons and turning with the rudder/elevator as with the super cub.

I have seen an 'RR' version for sale in UK with servos fitted along with motor and ESC
Any build reviews?
Is there a brushless version available yet? - If not I shall just use 3300 Nicads
Will the servos connect / work ok with my JR XP642
I shall be using this as a second plane - aileron trainer for future scale Cessna - If she is very stable and capable of slow flight / landings then i should cope..

There are two build reviews I've found, one on RC Universe and one on Hobby Lobby RC Groups, I think. A third, but not a very good one, was also found but I forget where. No brushless version but in these places and on multiplex site you can find how to on making your own. Don't have answers to your other questions....except that the magister threads on both of those groups indicate very sedate and stable flight.

could you tell me what you think is the "best" kit to upgrade this plane to brushless/esc/lipo???
I've been flying the Magister stock along with my Hangar9 Alpha Trainer with glow power. I find the stock setup to be very overheavy and underpowered. I've already read Greg Covey's article which required different pieces from different manufacturers. Isn't there a one box solution???
As to the kits for upgrade ... I've seen several and wondered which is the best fit and would require the least amount of adding new plug ends etc which would require soldering. My solder skills aren't up to snuff.

I'd go for an E-flite Power 25 with the Eflite 40 Amp ESC. That way you'd only have to solder the battery conector. That's a combination we have been using here and it works very good with the magister, even at the height of Mexico City.

discontinued. THe only way u can find one ids a store that
