The problem with the Poulan 33cc 14" saws is that most of them were actually 42cc when you looked at the little data label on the handle.

I have one that looks adaptable. 42cc's is a good problem! I need a muffler for mine.

I have flown a good many flights with a Poulan 42cc. It is a good engine and has good power. It is easy to convert but is a bit heavy. You might try www.wackerengines.com for a muffler.

WY8E, I haven't changed anything in how I have been posting pictures. Been doing it the same way for almost 8 years now. Why are they sometimes coming out so huge in the post now?? When they are that big it is a PITA to view the post.

I still have some of the carb adapters that turn the carb for hooking up the linkage, I have all the stuff to make mufflers for them if you can weld them together I am not able to weld any more.

On the pictures, you will take notice that it is the second and third pictures that are large.

Delete the large picture and repost them one at a time.

I hope they get it fixed before long?

I have one of the low emissions "two-barrel" models in a chain saw. Seems to run well, but I don't have a power comparison. I would look for a non-emissions model for airplane use.

For some reason, my posts are not working::: Will try again. I am looking for information or experience on 33cc POULAN Weedies. They look somewhat like a RYOBI, but a bigger bore, shorter stroke, reed valve in rear, and about the same weight as a RYOBi, long shaft, Question? What can I expect for performance, what have you changed, (porting, larger carb etc) I have three POULAN saw engines, one like in the picture, then 2 newer saws. Appreciate any advice or help you can give me on the WEEDIES. Flarthead

Did more research on these engines, it is a 31cc Weedie engine, very similiar to a RYOBI. However, the cylinder hold down bolts (2) set at an angle, unlike the Ryobi that set at a right angle to the crankshaft. The venturi on the carb is about the same as the Ryobi. The crankshaft is very similiar to a Robi long shaft, but the rod journal is larger. The wrist pin is the same size as the Ryobi. It has a single wide ring. Thanks for any info. FLATHEAD

in that case, I have a few of those... I don't have any running but should convert a lot like a ryobi, have a little more potential since they have a better connecting rod than a Ryobi

I just got from my son in-law, what I think is a Poulan 33, from a Wood Shark saw. We have already done the preliminary cut down but I'm at a loss on how to mount the engine to a plane. I plan on retaining the magneto but the coil tower mounts to the bottom of the engine and is kinda bulky.
Does anybody have some ideas to share.

If you are going to retain the coil, it will need to be in the same place as it is currently.

We need some pictures of the mounting possiblities?

I will post pics as soon as I get the engine. It is still in transit from Calif. via USPS.

Gas and an old tooth brush.

Well, a lot of effort has been expended trying to clean up engines, and just by accident I happened on a good way. I bought my wife a "SCUNCI" steam cleaner to clean some articles in the house, and decided that I needed to check it out. I put some water in it and let it warm up (about 5 minutes) and pushed down on the release button. "WOW" this little gadget has some good pressure and the grease was flying off. I agreed to let her use it during the week if I can use it on the weekend. If the temperature warms up some this weekend, I plan on using it some more. FLATHEAD

I just ran across this post. I have done a Poulan 32. They are common in the Barracuda blowers. The one I have runs strong, 7400 with a 11mm carb, gutted stock muffler (just snap it apart) and a 18 x 8 Top Flight. The problem I have is it vibrates real bad. I balanced the prop and spinner (both were pretty bad) but it's still shaken. I have a feeling it's not all (if any) balance because at one test run it stooped vibrating completely. Then I had to re-fuel and the next run it vibrated again. If I could get it to stop vibrating I would put it on a plane tomorrow, instead, I put it on a shelf for now.

Are you running the magneto or RCEXL ignition?

Phelon mag. I know the Phelon flywheels are generally out of balance but I really feel that is not all of it other wise it wouldn't have stopped vibrating and then restarted.

There is some rotating mass problem?

Inspect the hub and feel of the bearings, etc? Look at the runout of the hub assembly

I didn't check the runout on these items but I did try a different hub, prop, crankcase and flywheel and the vibration still existed.

A rich fuel mixture will make them vibrate but at 7400 rpm with a 18 X 8 at least the high speed is not rich.

Also a weak or loose engine mount will show extra vibration
