Default Basic info Rovan 30.5cc

Hello all i ordered my new Rovan 30.5cc motor along with a zenoah prob hub and stud. My question is after looking at pics of the motor where would i put the stud and adapter to attach a propeller to this dang motor? All info and advice appreciated thanks guys!

I do apologize here is a link to the motor. Its a 1/5 baja motor so it has a clutch. Im guessing by taking off the clutch i can install the hub and stud etc on the shaft.

Another Zenoah type clone engine. The1/5th scale HPI Baja cars/trucks come with Zenoahs stock I believe. I would think you would want the prop hub on the front. This way you can remove the clutch and chop the back side of the crankshaft off and remove the pull starter housing and related framework to save weight. Having the hub on the front also allows the use of normal tractor props. You would need a pusher prop on the back of the engine as the shaft spins clockwise on the back (clutch) side.

ask AV8TOR if he thinks this engine nay make a good conversion. He may have done one !

Im going to use a Master Airscrew 14x7 3 blade pusher for my setup

If you put the pusher prop on the rear (clutch) side of the engine it's going to turn the wrong way. A pusher prop is designed to be turned the "normal" direction which is counterclockwise. Your prop needs to go onto the front of the engine where the flywheel and pull starter is. That is unless the engine can be run either direction which I'm sure the magneto or ignition sensor would need to be moved to facilitate this (in order to use the clutch side of the crank) but for a boat or airplane you'd want to remove as much extra "stuff" from the engine as possible to save weight.

I have two of these, one is an upgrade for a 2 bolt Zenoah compatible crankcase and the second is a 4 bolt Rovan crankcase, I got both to fiddle around and experiment with.
The good news is that you can install the crankshaft in any direction as the crank bearings are the same. If you install the standard way you can cut off the excess bit (shroud) and attach to firewall via a mount connected to the crankcase bolts.
If you turn the crankshaft the other way you can use the shroud as your mount, in this case you may want to use a Dremel to match the crankcase and cylinder ports.
I have fitted a prop adapter but haven't powered any of the two engines yet, being agressively timed and 31mm stroke (+2 mm of original crankshat) I expect very good performance, I think they should turn an 18x8 prop well above 8000rpm.

Small correction, the stroke is in fact 30mm (28mm standard + 2mm) and bore 36mm, comes with a stuffed crank.
This makes the Rovan the same capacity as the DLE30 but being a piston ported (as opposed to reed valve) it can rev higher with the correct port timing.
18x8 prop should be small enough to get high rpm out of this engine, not sure about the vibration level but this engine can rev very high on cars.
