Some of you may have seen my mount for a Ryobi 4 Stroke in a previous post. Well, I finally got around to firing the thing up this afternoon. I used a standard 12 V. starter. It is a little slow getting started but once it gets spinning it will turn the engine over fast enough to start. The engine did start but I only had time to get in a few minutes run time before supper. I mostly ran it at idle with a couple of efforts to rev it meeting with mixed success. It would start to cut out after initally speeding up. It is likely that the carb need adjusting but as it is currently arranged the needles face the prop and are a little tough to get at with the engine running. I don't have any RPM measurements yet. My tach needs a new battery. Vibaration is an issue. Yeah, I know big ol' singles vibrate a lot but this was considerably more than my homelite conversion of bigger displacement. I haven't made any effort yet to have the flywheel turned down or balanced. I just borrowed the prop drive spacer from my long shaft Homie (it's too long) and threw on the first prop that would fit (an old MA 14x6). Even with no muffler it was reasonably quiet.

You need a bigger prop, more like a 16 or 17 or even an 18X6. I'll find my post in the tach section and repost it here.

Ryobi 26cc four stroke:
MAS 18X6 Wood = 6300rpm
APC 16X8 composite = 7200rpm

All with stock carb and stock muffler with baffle removed and enlarged outlet.

I agree that a bigger prop is a must. The 14-6 was just the biggest prop that would fit with the shaft in the current configuration. I didn't want to cut up the prop spacer that I borrowed from another engine. Has anyone tried making a casting incorperating the sump and an engine mount. The plate between the block and the sump seemd a good idea but I suspect that the struts on the side allow more vibration than is desireable. Wish I had a welder.
