Hi,
I did mention that it would run either way, depending on ignition timing. Engines with piston ported intake timing or reed valve intake, will run "backwards" just fine if you retime the ignition to run properly. Now he mentioned that his flywheel would fit either way. If this is true, and if the magnets still have good positioning to the coil, if he flops the flywheel over it should retime the ignition so that it would run in the other direction. Right?

After setting down and really studying the timing with a friend....
We have decided that the key way in the flywheel needs to be 180 degrees from where it is now.
Is this right, or did we talk our selfs out of what was right to start with?
That being just flip the flywheel over.

Hi,
Why don't you send the engine to Pete at Wackerengines.com and have him fit it with a great hub. He does these left hand blower engines all the time. I send him difficult projects often, since I don't have a machine shop. He makes great stuff at very low prices.

I think you will see if you flip the flywheel over, that the magnets will pass the coil the same distance Before Top Dead Center going the opposite direction than they do now. Stick a pencil in the spark plug hole, and rotate the engine normally while watching the magnets/coil, and monitoring the approaching top dead center position of the piston with the pencil resting on top of the piston. Then flop the flywheel and do the same turning it in the opposite direction. It depends on how it was designed. If the magnets are in line with the keyway, this won't work. In this case, any good machine shop should be able to machine you a new keyway in the flywheel. My other worry is that often the magnets on the flywheel are placed more towards the front or rear on the flywheel, and they may not pass the coil properly with the flywheel flipped.

I talked to Peter on the phone.
The LH threads on the pull start end seem to be a problem.
I'm looking at another thread that seem to allow running the engine on a 50/50 Alky and Gas with a glow plug.
This may be the most economical route.
I'd lose about 10oz and could run the engine CCW.
