Which one would be the lightest engine to convert? I have both, almost new chainsaws.
I would like to put one of them in my CMP Giles 202/140. Thought I would ask the FORUM fist.
Don't want to tear them both up to find out which is the lightest. l think i'll be going with EI
from CH, pits muffler from wackerengins. And any other suggestions you fellows my have.
I was leaning towards the 26ss Brillelli, but saw a thread that said it was not quite
unlimited for the Giles. So thought I would save a C-note and see if I could get by with
what I have, Polan 2.1ci or the Homey 33cc.

Jim,
The Poulan will be VERY heavy on the Giles. The 42cc Poulan (same block as the 2.1) Is heavier than a 46cc Poulan. The 33cc Homelite is lighter for sure. The 33 is a good engine. You can remove some fins to lighten it as well. Both engines will run good and make good power. The Homey will just be lighter in the end.

glowguy,
The Homelite already has a aero engine style bolt on carb. Scott at Brilleli can fix you up with the EI prop hub etc.

poco242 What makes the 42cc heavier than the 46cc?? I thought they were basically the same engine except for how the carb mounts. I have a 42cc but not a 46cc for comparison. I don't see how the 42cc could be made much lighter, except perhaps to mill off some cooling fins. It is a fairly compact engine. I didn't actually bother to weigh my 42cc, but it's on the front of my Giant Big Stik and I didn't have to add any tail weight to get the c.g. right on....
Thanks,

The 46 and 42 are compleatly different blocks. The 42 is a much heavier and thicker casting than the 46. The 46 is made very light. Not alot of thickness to any of the casting. Just the cylinder alone on the 42 is 3oz heavier than the 46. Plus the crank and bottom cover are heavier. Here is a pic of the 2 side by side. The 46 is on the left.
I forgot to say, if his engine is a 2.1 and not a 42, then it is even heavier. The bore is smaller so there is more aluminum in the Cyl. I have a Poulan 2.1 here that is the same block as the 42. It is 4 oz heavier than the 46.

Ok, thanks a lot for the info. I didn't know that. When I bought my Poulan, I opted for the 42cc as I mistakenly thought the only difference was in the carb mounting and I opted to buy the 42cc to stay away from that. Now, both for more power and a lighter engine, I wish I had gotten the 46cc. Not that big a deal really to come up with a carb mount... Oh well, the 42cc has about the same power as a Fuji 43cc without me doing any mods to it and it flies the Giant Stik very well, so I'm not going to change anything now.
Thanks again,
