Has any one seen the new toro weed wacker at home depot?? I cant tell who makes it for them. The box has no displacement size, it just says 1 hp at the crank, so I opened the box and took one out. It has a rear pull start and the castings look identical to the echo's. The sticker on the back says 25cc while the echos are only 21.2 or something like that. The engine has great compression, due to the twin piston rings and crome cly. has anyone else seen these?? Iwant to convert one of these for my next plane and leave the pullstart on "under the cowl" for REAL eazy starting and convinence

from what i've seen most of the rear pull start weedies are made by kioritz (echo) or komatsu (zenoah) and are high quality. echo does have a 25.4cc engine so this toro might be the same? from what i remember the whole pull-start rig only weighs about 6oz so it sounds doable if you dont mind the extra weight.

Zagnut: WoW.... I looked at your web-site. Looks like a interesting business to be in. Have you read about ceramic cylinders for small glow engines!!!!! Capt,n

I took a real close look at the Toro trimmer at Home Depot the last few times I went there, and they sure look interesting. I would have guessed Kioritz as the OEM except the spark plug is straight like small Zenoahs, not angled like all the baby Kioritz I've seen.
Anyway, the back of the engine has some kind of mechanism on the cylinder. I can't quite make out what it is, but it looks like some sort of emission control device. EGR maybe.
If it ever goes on sale, I'll definitely pick one up to play with. It seems like every monkey and his uncle makes a 25.4cc twin ring, twin BB, twin counterbalance weedie engine.
I'm smitten by the two I got.

I looked at one Saturday myself, noticed that it had the barrel type carb. Wonder if it could be one of the MTD engines like in the small Ryobi 22.5 or the Cub Cadet 25?

Those fixed jet carb are next to useless for RC. I've got a couple of them lying around from my Cub Cadet 25.4cc and another engine. Plus the venturis are aweful tiny.
I wish Toro would publish their parts catalog online like everybody else. Then we can really compare it to the other 25.4cc weedies.

I almost picked up a weedwacker at Lowes today. They had about six with various problems such as missing parts or mention of rough idle, on closeout. They had Bolens and Toro which looked like the same engine 32cc, but the engines looked kinda big and had the carb on the back (not sure if that is a major problem). These were $25-$34. There was also a Cub Cadet 25cc for $50 which said it had a problem with the clutch cable. Didn't know these had a clutch or a cable. They had the same model new for $149 and it mentioed the chrome cylinder, dual bearings and fixed jet (wondered if that would be a problem). The engine seemed small and set up for an easy conversion. Thought I would check the RCU for any info. Anyone think it would be a good deal?

Hi,
I just started a thread on TORO trimmers the other day. Here is the thread complete of the stripped down engine.

I only have a Lowes near me for now and they don't have a clearance section. There is a home depot being built though, hopefully it will have future oppertunities. I was at lowes the other day getting a project list going for my new house to finish the basement and garage and saw some of the new 4 stroke trimmers and such. I am putting a Honda 4 stroke in a Decathlon right now in fact. It takes just the right combo to make that 4 stroke a viable power plant. I won't retain the pull start on it as I want to save every Oz. However, I have a TF mustang that I am going to use the awesome macullagh 46cc on and I will retain the pull start in it I think. I really like the idea of hiding that beneath the cowl.
