Default RE: weedeater/chainsaw 39cc for free, where to start?

btw i have been planning this project for about 8 months now and it is finally time to get the ball rolling.. i came into the conversion forum about 8-9 months ago asking questions as well, just wanting to get some opinions for right now.. also what size prop should i use with the 39cc if i use straight gas/oil with the magneta ignition? how about with the gas/glow fuel setup?

go and get a DL50 for less than 400$
it will just do you good
why to go into conversion advantures while you have what you want on the shelf?[8D]

anyway good luck

He posts this in the Conversion forum and someone pipes up with a comment like this. Sheesh go to another forum or learn to comprehend what you read.

Anyway, you need to post a picture or two. Who made the engine? I would do gas/oil mix myself. I went to gas to get away from the price of glow. Leave it on the mag ignition for now to see what you have weight wise plus you save the expense of the ignition box. I prefer EI but for your project don't spend the money unless you have to.

Hi Gadi

This is an engine conversion thread, what's the fun in buying an engine off the shelf? $400 cheap? My engine was free! by the time I finish my engine it will stand me in at under $100 with a new aluminium exhaust, Walbro WT391 carb, Engine mount, glow plug adaptor and prop hub! It will weigh aprox 2.5lb (I hope) That and the fun of doing the conversion is what it's all about.

i was thinking about this 39cc, i think it is gonna weigh a lot for this spad! my brother in law also has a 25cc 1.2 horse husqvarna saw that he would give me.. anyone ever used one of these engines? i think that without the engine, otherwise ready to fly the spad will weigh in around 7lbs so i think the 39cc will be a bit excessive.. what size prop would you guys recommend for a 1.2hp 25cc husky? i think i will just stick with magneta and gas/oil mix. how do you guys generally mount these engines? have any of you guys just tapped the crankshaft end and bolted the prop on? thanks for any advice in the way of converting, not buying! i want this to be a cheap ordeal, as cheap as is safely possible!

You never havew said what brand the 39cc engine was.

That is something we need to know first.

i just found out that the 39cc is a right hand (clockwise) engine so i don't think it will work anyway. i think it is a husqvarna just so that is on the table. but i dont think i can use it.. can i?

Hi, On your engine, It should rotate in the proper direction, if you install the prop hub on the crank shaft that mounts the flywheel and pull starter ccw rotation. I would use at least an 18x8 prop up to a 20x8. All this said without knowing the engine brand.

i dont actually have the engine yet, my brother in law has it and it is still on the trimmer.. it is a bushwacker trimmer, it has a circle saw blade on it, but it is in weedeater form.. i am traveling to visit my brother in law and sister on saturday so i will have pics and more info then, but i am pretty certain that the engine runs clockwise, so i dont think i can use it, i will probably have to use the 25cc husqvarna trimmer engine.

so you are paying a little more than us, but you are also getting higher octane content (not always a good thing).

Where do you live?

Gas here in California is $3.65 a gallon.

At $2.20 I'd fill up my motor home. It has a 100 gallon tank.

I can only hope and pray that the screwing the oil people are giving the public will come back to haunt them.

Just think if we could only switch over to alcohol, or hydrogen, or ANYTHING BUT PETROLEUM overnight, and leave them with nothing!!

God would I love it....

For example I want to make a trip to see my brother this month and fly our conversion planes together. It would be an 800 mile round trip. In my old motor home that would be around 500 bucks in gas!!

Please, don't anyone say that alcohol is a bad idea. The "food prices going up" argument is propagated by the oil people. Food prices ARE going up, but it is due to the price of oil. There are millions of acres of vacant land and closed down farms that could be farmed in alcohol crops in the U.S., and there is no reason to make a dent in the food crops to make alcohol. If a third world country like Brazil can do it, why not us??

Ok, sorry, I'm done...

i hate the gas crisis as much as you guys, in fact my wife and i bought a chevy aveo with no a/c (in tx that is a major problem) just to get better mileage bc my truck was killing us, plus surviving on one vehicle is hard to do.

back to the engine conversion.. i will most likely be using the 25cc husqvarna, what size prop should i select? i was thinking 16x6 or 17x5?

I think the UK is about $10 a gallon! Most of Europe is about $8 to $10! I think what the governments etc here are trying to do is bring the US into line with the Europeans! Makes sense as it would mean more money in their pockets! Could be wrong though?

Hey Punisher if you read this let us know what the current price of petrol is in the UK?

Oh bare in mind when you convert it a UK gallon is metric and equals 4.54 litres. I think the US imperial Gallon is 4 litres.

ok guys, spent the weekend getting the plane ready, i think with about 45 min. to 1 hour it will be ready to fly.. the engine i ended up using was a 30cc stihl weedeater engine! the only problem is my starter won''t spin it and it needs tuned a little, i spent about 1 hour flipping the prop on it and it started 3 times, but wouldn''t idle long enough for me to adjust it.. there is a tiny bit of play in the flywheel on the shaft, should i be concerned? also it seems the piston makes a light clicking noise at the top of the cylinder? maybe the ring clicking over the exhaust port? i am going to try to get a spinner on it today and borrow a friend''s big starter.. is there anyway i can modify something for a black and decker 18v drill to use as a starter? thanks for all the support thus far guys, i cant wait to fly this thing!
