Default Homelite starting

I have completed the conversion of a homelite 25cc and it started very easily within a couple of flicks by hand. I stopped it to adjust to the tickover and it would not start again, I seem to have a very weak spark and it only fires now and again when hand starting, can anyone help. Joe

Are you using stock coil and mag or cdi with battery.

It is the stock coil, what I can't understand is that it started first time without any problem and then refused to restart? very odd. Joe

make sure the air gap is close on the ignition, I use a business card placed between magnets and coil when I tighten down the bolts.

I stopped it to adjust to the tickover
readjust the tickover back to prior setting. I give up, what is a tickover?

Tickover is a commonly used term in Europe, (well, England anyway), for engine "idle".

If the engine is old enough to have a seperate (steel) flywheel key then starting is best done with an electric starter. Mine will sometimes start by hand but not reliably. I have a later 30cc with the cast in key and it cranks very easily by hand. I think the explanation is that later flywheels have stronger magnets and the ignition module is taylored for easier starting.

Thanks for that planepounder, I bought the weedwacker new only a couple of months back and started the conversion within a week or so, I am using a starter now because it starts every time with one, although from cold it will start by hand?
I was having a problem with the idle speed being to high but in the interests of experimentation I took off the throttle butterfly which had two holes in it and replaced it with a home made one without holes, I can now set the idle at any speed I like. Joe
