Default Throttling a vintage FF engine?

Mornin' All,

I'm sure this question has already been asked but a search did not come up with any answers...

I am building up a Ben Buckle Challenger for R/C sport flying and I'm considering one of Woody Bartelt's fine reproduction Super Atom engines. As this engine was originally designed for freeflight applications, it is not equipped with a throttle control. Can (has?) this engine been modified to be R/C controllable? Any and all advice is appreciated.

I checked with Woody Bartelt but he is not aware of any conversions of his engines and could not offer any advice.

Thanks!

Harvey

A regulated exhaust restrictor probably will do.
I do not know your engine, but this used to be the kind of throttling in use on many engines, before reliable carbs were develloped and piston sub-induction was phased out.

I was thinking the same thing as PE, until I looked up the engine, apparently that engine uses the exhaust port for exhaust and intake, but that's about all I got with what I saw, it's an odd little engine

The engine I have seen on an internet search has piston induction. and no exhaust stack. It seems however possible to make a clamp-on stack with valve plate that would allow some form of power regulating without hurting the engine's original lay-out

what about retarding the ignition? That is what they use to do on the old engines.

also possible. But I did see no loose part on that engine that would allow it? I mean, you would have to make a clamp-on breaker that can be rotated without damaging the nice replica. AND, it would have to be RC operated.
edit:
Electronic interception and mutilation of the low voltage signal perhaps?

Hmm...
Not the engine I thought it was.
