Default CDI units for $25 bucks??

Does anybody know how good the XYZ engine replacement CDI units are that you can get from Hobbycity for $25 bucks are?
The Hall sensor is only $8 bucks.
That would make one cheap conversion ignition to help reduce weight on a stock weedwacker motor.
Wonder what kind of or where you could get a magnet to work with it to trip the hall sensor?

Thanks DC

I havent bought one of them yet but i havent heard of any problems yet though either.I might buy one just to check it out.As for the magnet go to radio shack and get the 1/8th for like a dollar. They may have 1/16th or 3/32nd wich will also work.Just remember to check wich side trips it correctly by passing it under the hall sensor and then use a black magic marker to darken the side so ya dont glue ,epoxy,or jb weld it upside down.

The xyz is working well on mine. I have it on a homie 33 saw engine. I have not had one glitch or the batteries drain. If you run there haul you will have timing advance.

I have not get a 2nd one yet but I will.

IF the magnet is stationary and the pickup is stationary, how can you have advance?
Does it do this inside the little black box?

You can have advance 2 ways. The pick-up is on a movable holder that move as you open throttle...via linkage. The other way is auto advance built right in to CD unit. The 2nd is best...maybe. I think the RCexcell units have auto advanec built in. Capt,n

I have two of the XYZ ignitions. One on a Ryobi 31cc and one on a Poulan 25cc. Both have run good on the bench. I have not got the Poulan in the air yet as I have not finished the airplane for it. A Dynaflite SE5a. The Ryobi is on a 4 star 120 and flies it well. But has been glitching on me. I was using a spark plug without a resistor. Just switched it out to a resistor plug but have not got it back in the air yet. I like these ignitions. If they continue to do well, I will buy more.

On the $25 ignitions....I would run the engine quite a bit on a test stand before flying. I am not about to crash one of my airplanes because of a bad ignition. Capt,n

HELLOW: Prop Nut, that sure was a nice sounding 4 stroke engine you have in you big Bi-Plane. I got your airplane on video and a Photo of it at the flight line. Sure was a nice clear blue sky...good Fly-In weather. There sure was a lot of Aiplanes & Helies there. I cannot wait untill next Labor Day! Best Regards Capt,n

Hi all, I purchased one of those xyz ignitions. The thing had great spark. Tested it again after engine was installed and nothing. The ignition just sits there and has a load steady beeping sound. I did not use the hall sensor from XYZ do to the fact that it was for an RCS180 and hall sensor is in the rear back plat. Was wondering it anyone has had a similar problem. Also the ignition was out of Hong Kong don’t know if I will get another and risk my plane.

Hello, I just purchased 3 of these. Only one seems to work when passing a magnet over the sensor. Will have to check the others a bit more.
Duayne, the hall sensor wiring polarity looks to be different from the standard Rcexl hall sensor with the positive and negative swapped around.
The early (V1?) Rcexl ignitions were like this also. This maybe your problem?
Regards

Tride everything. It was working, then nothing. It just sits there and hums. No spark. I think I should of just get a CH ignition. I tried it with my two other C&h ignitions and it worked great. If anyone needs the wire code for a RCS 180 just let me know. Maybe you can have more luck with it then I did. $33 down the drain. live and learn.
