I notice that the Zama carbs do not like to run on methanol.
I have a Poulan 25 on gas/glow and it runs good on the first flight and then the carb goes out of wack.
Happens every time I go to the field. Is there a replacement part to run methanol? I assume it is the pump
valves that are the problem.

Look for a Walbro carb on some dead power tool. The carb should be about the same size. Then at least you can buy good kits for the Walbro carb if needed. Just a Idea! Capt,n

OK Fujiman:
For the Zama carb on my Poulan 25- the Carb no. is 1CU-W18 and the pump and diaphragm
kit no. is GND-12
For the Zama carb on my Craftsman 42 chainsaw engine the carb no. is 1CQ-W14A and the kit no. is GND-27
I purchased them from H and H Lawn Care. Good internet site for rebuild kits and prices are good too.

FYI I received the Zama Diapragm kits today. the -12 kit came with 2 different diaphragms for the pump. One is an exact replacement and the other seems to be a fiberglass material that is almost the same color as the original but definitely a different material. Obviously I opted for the new mateiral. I think the replacement regulator diaphragm is a different material but I cannot be sure. It is the same color as the original but the texture is a bit different, that is before it sees fuel. The -27 kit has a clear pump diaphragm and an exact replacement too. I don't think the clear one is mylar more likely fiberglass as it has the texture of fiberglass. I'll give it a whirl this weekend and post results.

I flew the plane with the new diaphragms in the Zama carb. It definitely improved the performance in that I can set the carb needles and the adjustments are steady throughout the flights. This is a big plus. I now leave the glow battery on until it warms up which takes about 2 minutes. Now I'm dealing with the mid range. It does seem to run too cold/rich in mid range. It could be the fuel. I run 2:1 gas to methanol and oil. Maybe I'll try the gas and glow fuel mixture or just gas with oil. I heard some people have had success with just gas/oil on the Poulan 25, it will definitely run hotter.

Tinsink, I had a problem keeping the plug hot so I hooked up a battery to the glow plug with a on/off switch. When I run the engine I turn the switch on & leave it on till I am done running it. The battery is a 4.8 2200mah battery. When I get home I charge the battery up & am good till the next time

jadec241, What glow plug are you using? 4.8 volts seems to be a lot. Others are using only 1.2 volts. Makes me wonder how long your plug is going to last.

Are you using a regulator at all? any time I have tried more than 1.5 volts, the plug gets really bright and then makes "magic smoke".

I just wnt into my shop & checked the battery. My mistake. Its a "AA" 1.2 2200 miliamp. battery mounted in a single cell holder from Radio Shack. Glad you guys asked cause I would swear it was a 4.8. Thanks

On the test stand I ran 10 oz. of fuel thru. Came home & checked tjhe battery & it was almost fully charged. Came out the next day & ran it again. Some of the guys are running a 'AA' Walgrens battery with good results also

Gotta be an easier way to get a plug adapter and carb
maybe one that dont mandate PayPal.
Other than getting the Plug Adapter from CH, and paying shipping on that one part
then buying more stuff elsewhere with more shipping charges,
are the Plug adapters available anywhere else besides CH & Wackerengs? Someplace with a straight credit card transaction?
FUEL-
Anybody know a place in San Antonio to get methanol?
The local RC Car place says they only have high nitro stuff, and I dont want to "order" a case to get the 10/10.
I looked at Kart web pages, but didnt see them talking about fuel.
I have an email out to a race fuel supplier (VP), the wait for reply is not giving me hope for easy drive up retail of their 5gal bucket. My reasoning is that even 5gal of NoOil NoNitro added race methanol will still be cheaper than a couple gals of Car 10/10.
I can do the math to dilute 15/18 plane fuel to get 10%oil,
but I cant do that without some methanol to dilute with.

HELP!!!!! Does anyone know who makes a 14mm to glow plug adapter with a square cut (flat) "gasket type" seat where it seals on cyl. head???? All the ones I've seen have taper type seats. I have 1 eng. that someone has used a tapered adapter on a flat gasket type cyl. head and it leaks badly around threads. Also I can't find a countersink type tool to cut a taper in cyl. to fit adapter, without going into a big, big production thing!!!!!

I could make you up one out of an old spark plug, I think I have an old plug handy... I'm in Tigard and go through Salem every now and then.. or you could meet me somewhere...
