Since I'm considering converting smaller glow engines, other than my ST 2000 over to gas, would the 10% oil content be typical.

NO
Remember when you convert from glow to gas you reduce the amount of fuel flowing through the engine by about 50%.
So even if you keep the same ratio as glow fuel the bottom end is getting only 1/2 the oil.
Anything smaller than a 90 use 15% oil

the bevel goes towards the crank and not the threads

I use 50: 1 but I also put needle bearing on thr rod

I bought a carb adapter and timing ring from Ken L. Ken also machined my 3250 head for a 10mm cm-6 plug. I am going to run the engine with the bushed rod and un-modified crankshaft.

Can I expect to have sticking piston ring problems by running 12oz oil to a gallon of fuel in this engine?

I am using a RCexcell ignition, which direction shall I install the magnet in the prop hub? Does it matter?

Actually it's the bearings that need the extra oil not the piston.

I am worried that the excess oil will cause ring sticking. I would run the engine at 40 to 1, but then the rod big end will fail. Bearings do not need the excess oil either.

the BUSHING reqires mo oil also non as bearings if you change to needle bearings you can run 40: 1 . You may eventually carbon up the ring groove from to much oil but I don't think you will need to worrie about the ring sticking until then

See post #27
Even at 10:1 oil mix thats 1/2 the oil it gets running on glow.
We used to go about 3 years before decarboning one and we got 7 years out of a rod. This was on our demo engine and it got flew a LOT

Thanks for clearing that up, I was concerned that the engine would suffer from excessive carbon with a 10 to 1 mixing ratio.

Can you answer me this please? I am using a RCexcell ignition, which direction shall I install the magnet in the prop hub? Does it matter?

Thanks, Mike

One side of the sensor is N pole the other side is S pole.
Normal is N Pole magnet to # side sensor

Where do you get a magnet? and how do you determine which side is N?

Thanks,
Mike

Mike,
You can buy a rare earth magnet at Radio Shack and they work great. Just hook up your ignition and pass the magnet under the pick-up, it will only fire with one side of the magnet. Make sure your ignition is hooked to the plug and just ground the plug to the head. i have a few that you can actually hear firing with the plug installed. Most ignitions have a warning telling you to "NOT" fire the ignition without a plug attached. Hope that helps

TKG,

In another thread you wrote that when converting the head for 14mm plugs, you need to use two gaskets. Are you taking about the compression ring that comes on the plugs? Or the copper cylinder/head gasket?

Also, I got my 14mm spark plug cap kit and my Ignition module today. Is there a "how-to" thread on installing the cap kit?

I looked around a bit but could find anything. Thought maybe you guys would know as the instructions that came with my kit are very sparse and the pictures are 30 times over photo copies that look like little more than gray spots on a page.

Thanks,
Mike

When you say 14mm plug are you talking about the hex size or the thread size???

Ooooppps.... I meant 10mm thread size plugs. I got the Denso CM-6 equivalent and a plug cap kit to fit them.

Thanks,
Mike

The head may be a bit to thin when you tap it for 10mm. Then the spark plug will stick to far into the chamber, thats when you need to make a spacer or use 2 gaskets
