Ok thats a good voltage,

i tried different thicknes plastic between the mullard core, that changes the noise from it alot, and the sprks lots better the small the gap

Rob, I made a change to the updated timerboard.
Somehow you didn't put the 1n4007 diode on the board..I added a few solder pads to my board layout so I could put it on the bottom of the board, and added a new spot for the +6volt wire out to the powerboard.
I was getting glitches and missfires at the plug..so I figured it was coming from the feedback voltage thru the HV board...I was right, so I added the diode..works now without a missfire..

Sorry I wasn't here, I get a error (500) from the site.

@Charlie, I know I can get the puls from the pic, but where is the programmer who will do this ?

@John, I know the diode wasn't there.
The diode has to be placed between the two boards, instead of a jumper.
There wasn't enough space on both boards.

Update, I was allready placed the diodes on both CDI-powerboards.

@Brett, do you test without the the diode at the right side of your drawing ?
This diode is only there if youre using AC form the inner engine coil.

Rob,

I actually have something going right now. I have a pic pin goinig from .5 hz to 5 khz adjustable using a pot. do you have any idea of the hz needed?

RE: New CDI - opensource project JMJ and Bigboat

It depent of the rpm the engine can make.
For 15,000 rpm you need >250 Hz the load the C (15,000 / 60 = 250)
To secure the C is realy loaded, I think you need 500Hz.
Normal DC/DC powersuppley use 400kHz, to get enough current.
I think the middle between 500 and 400,000 Hz will do the job.

OK. that seems easy enough. I will keep you posted.

RE: New CDI - opensource project JMJ and Bigboat

Rob, since I wasn't using the updated power board, I found it easier to just change the updated timer board instead of redesigning my original CDI board. Not a problem..

I just finished making 4 more timer boards with the diode included so I can connect to mine without any problems. Also, the updated CDI power board was drawing alot of current and the BD242 was getting really warm, so I started checking current draw..mine takes 250 mah, and the updated CDI was drawing almost 600mah. Mine doesn't even get warm at 7000 rpms, while the new CDI was getting hot in a few seconds.

I'll have to send you one of mine to test, but it seems really power efficient as it's only drawing 250 mah. I was concerned with battery life in an airplane installation without using a battery pack larger than my 700 mah 4.8 volt pack. It is working well the way it's configured now.. getting over 3 hours run time.. I know the torroid is more efficient than the ecore transformer and I have no problems winding them.
Makes me smile every day I run an engine with it!;)

John, wat is the differend between yours and mine - do you have a drawing of it ?
Powerboard 2 is a professional board, Bosch was my master [8D]
The only differend with Bosch is the trigger part, they use all transistors.

In the beginning I wind me in one evening 10 torroids, all differend to test.
Next day I can't move my fingers anymore [:o]

I'm trying now the timerboard with a optocoupler TCST2000 and the board like it more then the hallsensor.
Maybe it's also possible to use a reflector opto like CNY17, only black and white at the shaft is enough.

The TCI in action.
You can see the ignition stopped at some time.....thats the 10,000 rpm I set into the Exelsheet.

Ok I have the how to finished. So it should be pretty easy to use mikroC and produce a hex file.Problem is I cant upload a .doc file here.Rob maybe you can post it on your site? let me know.

@Charlie, YGM.
To day I have build the CDIPWR2-board, but it don't ocsilate.
I think the transistor is the problem, I can't get the right one today in store.

Hi All,
ive been testing a circuit a modified for the hall SS443A last night and just finished it,

it can go in front of the power board, ive used this sorta circuit before with CDi ignition and gained 2000 Rpm even with fixed timing,

cheers
brett

Caution i have updated this Circuit

Rob,

What do you want to do with the C code? What changes do you want to make? I might be able to get something done.

Rob,

Thanks for posting my howTo. I was thinking it might be good to post it at http://www.modelbouw.gompy.net/newcdi/ too.

RE: New CDI - opensource project JMJ and Bigboat

Yes i agree,

we should get a simple list together for what we need to improve the C code,

mine would be the setting up of the POP ( point of pickup) and being able to change it in the software or Exel program

Hi Charlie.....nice "How to" thanks

in your how to you sayselect INTRCI/O

where in the files from Robs site hes says to select INTOSC:I/O on RA6/OSC2/CLKOUT,I/O ON RA7/OSC1CLKIN

http://www.modelbouw.gompy.net/newcdi/MicroC_2009.zip

does it mean the same thing....???

also he rob has master clear enable and brown out .....what ever that means

Wat have to be changed.

1 - low rpm - now the timing start at 1800rpm.
2 - place BTDC - now it's fixet at 40 BTDC.
3 - 2x ocsilator output - to feed the HV-board.
4 - flashligt output - flashlight isn't posible in TCI-mode.
5 - variable delay - to use the timerboard with 45/55% delay.
6 - more timetables - switching between more timetables.
7 - only table loading - not compile the hole code only the tables.

Hi Brett,

in your how to you sayselect INTRCI/O

where in the files from Robs site hes says to select INTOSC:I/O on RA6/OSC2/CLKOUT,I/O ON RA7/OSC1CLKIN

Intosc:io is internal osc and it makes the osc pins input or output. What happens is once you make a new project and copy ans paste the code into the IDE by default it is set to HS_osc. the circuit is not setup for a external osc. So you have to make sure you set the config fuses accordingly. In this setup you don't need Master Clear enabled. If it is and you don't tie that pin high the pic will just sit there. So its easier to disable it.Brownout detect is if the pic sees less than 2 volts it sleeps or something.Again something that is not needed.

Ok I found what you are talking about. Also in the schematic, MCLR is not tied to anything. So if one is going by that, it is better to disable it.
