RE: Echo BME twin
ORIGINAL: av8tor1977 I specifically did not weld the crank like that, both for strength and maintaining centering, (at least to my way of thinking), and because I didn't want to heat up that area and take a chance of overheating and/or weakening the rod pin or roller bearing. AV8TOR In any case, mine runs incredibly smooth. How's everyone else doing with their twins?? AV8TOR |
RE: Echo BME twin
A company called Gen Engineering in Japan made a twin MANY years go using 2 G62 cylinders, cranks, carbs, and ignition coils...It had the same bolt pattern as the 62 single and was made to be used as a power unit for ultralights and paragliders...The company showed some of the engines at Oshkosh and even had some brochures printed...I bought one of the engines from a customer who picked it up in Canada...The importer was located in California, and when I called him to get info we couldn't communicate very well, he spoke broken English and I spoke no Japanese...The price was to be about $1500, which was high at the time....The engine I had ran very well, but I loaned it to a "friend" and it has since disappered...I still have the original mount that was on it..It predated most all of the big twins now being sold...20/20 hind sight sure is great [&o]
Tomyrc is on to something here, he sent me a picture of the 62cc cylinders...They look very good...If the quality is anything like the appearance he will dominate the twin cylinder market with this one, as the price will be much lower than anything else around... Wish I was the dealer  FWIW, the stud on the end of the crank is a great copy of the one on all 3w engines...:D |
RE: Echo BME twin

RE: Echo BME twin
Now that will ruin a days work in a hurry. Looks like someone deleted the last few posts. HMMMM. Why?? [:o]
|
RE: Echo BME twin
I GUESS YOU ARE NOT SUPPOSE TO ASK IF SOME HAS SOMETHING FOR SALE,YOU HAVE TO RUN A WANTED ADD....SO THEY DELETED MY LAST POST.[:@]
|
RE: Echo BME twin
Yeah, as far as I'm concerned the moderators are too strict about that. We should do a poll and see what the forum users really want.
AV8TOR |
RE: Echo BME twin
Would it really matter?
|
RE: Echo BME twin
For God sake people all he did was ask if anyone had any for sale. Not like I responded on the forum, I sent him a PM!! Then all he did was say thanks on the forum. Whats the big deal with that. Please Mr. Moderator come out of the closet and tell us what we did wrong don't just wack a post as it really screws up the continuity of the thread.

RE: Echo BME twin
Well, after a looonng break, I finally got back to my little BME twin 23.6cc engine. I mounted it on my Giant Stik. It took the place of the Gas/Glow Poulan 42cc I had been flying on the Stik. The twin, with it's back plate mount and prop adapter, weighed within 1/2 ounce of the Poulan 42cc with it's rail mounts and prop adapter. That was kind of surprising.
Anyway, what a sweet engine and a great combo. It flies great!!! The engine has a great sound, and is extremely smooth and responsive. Looks great on there too! Sorry, but my camera went FUBAR, so no pics. Got a new camera coming.... It has only about 3 tanks of fuel through it so far, so it is still breaking in. I'm presently running an APC 18 x 8 on it and it turns 8000. I imagine when it breaks in and I fine tune it, it will turn about 8300 with that prop. I did briefly try a 20 x 10 on the test stand, and it turned that at 6800. It's amazing how smooth the engine is compared to a single. I really like it. Even though a good single would have more power, it still flies at 1/3 throttle and has basically unlimited vertical, so that will work as far as power.... BTW, I'm running it on Gas/Glow without onboard glow power. Works perfect, idles slow and smooth, starts easy, etc. AV8TOR |
RE: Echo BME twin
I'm looking at a Giant Stick to hang my twin on also.
How does it balance? Did you add any weight? |
RE: Echo BME twin
Great Planes has two balance points for the plane. One listed in the manual, and a revised C.G. that is quite a bit farther forward. With the twin cylinder engine, a smoke system, and heavy duty servos mounted in the rear, it comes out right on the forward spot. It flies fine there, but I'll probably move it back someday soon as the spins and snaps aren't very tight and it needs a touch more down elevator in inverted flight than I like.
Keep in mind that my twin is a bit light because it's running Gas/Glow. But then I have the smoke system on there as well... AV8TOR |
RE: Echo BME twin
Av8tor, that twin can turn a bigggg prop compared to the singles. It doesn't need the RPM with the torque it has. I would keep it in that 6000 range. Does it heat up at that RPM? My DA 100 turns just under 6500. D&B or Ridge Machine show 6900 on a 22/10.
