One thing that doesn't show in the pics is the smoke oil injector I made out of a 1/8" male pipe thread x 1/8" compression tube brass fitting and a short length of 1/8" copper tubing. The two mufflers somewhat spread apart, with each having dual exits makes a neat smoke trail...

AV8TOR: Nice Photos of making mufflers. I noticed on your prop hub several small holes. Are they for set screws? Thanks Capt,n

RE: Echo BME twin

Hi Captain, and thanks!

Yes, I went ahead and put some set screws on the collar where it goes over the crank. The crank has been converted to right hand threads as you know, and I've never had problems with prop adapters coming loose, but I figured for the few minutes work to add the set screws, the added security was worth it, especially since this engine is double it's original size....

Take care,

Thanks for the last picture. This is giving you the idea, that the ulgy looking part (shown on the last picture) can be finished to such nice pro-looking mufflers (shown on the previosus pictures). It is really cool.

I went to the bearing house to pick up a front bearing, a 6901rs, they want $45.00 a piece.

Does anyone know of a better place to buy one?

I used Boca Bearing: http://www.bocabearings.com/main1.as...ksearchbearing
and VXB Bearing: http://www.vxb.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=SRCH

what models does the reed cage from? i found a few homelite reeds on ebay and was hoping that a few of them would do

tim220225 02-01-2008 05:56 PM

RE: Echo BME twin

XL series saws. The reed assembly is like a pyramid with 4 petals. These were or are also used on the 61cc Echo twin conversions some of us have done.

I've started off with a 22x8 APC and she is still pretty rich on the top end.
I now have about 1 1/2 quarts through it and will put another quart in it before I adjust the high side.

If I just idle it it hardly gets warm to the touch.

It like a few drops of fuel to start when cold, but hand starts much easier than my G-62.
I'll have some numbers soon.

Ralph at rcignitions is selling ignitions for these for $75.00 with a lifetime guarenty, that includes crashes.
Gas-Glow is pretty cool stuff but I've never had an engine idle like this does.
You can count the rpm by the exhaust.

I purchased 2 more ignitions for my other twins and hope to sell off a couple of running engins to recoupe
some cash for other projects.

I just purchased a one of a kind Bellanca like the Miss Veedol in this months AMA mag.
It's the Miss Columbia. 2 weeks after the Linberg flight, Miss Columbia flew from New York to Berlin non-stop.
She has 150" wing spand.

The plane is about 80% complete, and I fell in love with her the 1st time I saw her.
I may have her ready for the Scale Masters coming up .... well just maybe.

does anybody have a spare reed cage lying around? i cant find one for the life of me.

Ralphbf 04-23-2008 12:11 AM

RE: Echo BME twin

There is a reed cage for sell on E*ay.

The trick thing to do is make your own reeds out of shim stock.

search using Super XL reed

It's gone now.

Just keep checking, Outdoor Power Equipment > Chainsaws > Parts & Accessories.

They come up from time to time

Good luck, I couldn't find one last year after begging for several months.

RE: Echo BME twin

Guys this is just one of those projects that is just so cool
that no one in their right mind would give it up even if you didn't plan to do it for years.

I ran mine on gas - glow and it ran good.
I purchased an ignition for it from rcignitions for $75.00 and it runs even better.

Sorry

I stopped asking and begging after i talked to every person i think that bought at least 2.I started asking shortly after the first page.Somone said a person in California bought the rest with another person and the 2 where going to produce some twins. But they had a falling out or somthing.I wish they would come forward or somone could find out who it was and if theyd be willing to part with what they had left to at least break even and give the rest of us a chance.
