Hello All
I just purchased a Fox .40 diesel off ebay. While searching for info on this particular model, all I could find was a Engine Review on the Fox Quikee 500 which looks very similar except that mine does not have the "Q" under the "FOX" logo. Does anyone have experience with this model? Any info is most welcome.

He has a regular Fox .40 engine. Likely the large frame version. I don't remember DDD making heads for the small frame .40's.
They make excellent deisel engines.
My Fox .45 turns a 12x8 prop with authority too.

Hobbsy and Earl: thanks for your input. I tried to upload pictures but got some strange "500 - Internal server error" message (whatever that means - I have no clue). The engine is NOT marked "Q" so I believe it is a regular 40. I will try to shoot some new pictures and upload them.

They would have never put a diesel head on a Quickie .40 engine. It might work, but the nature of the engine was all out racing performance. it would not be useable as a sport engine. it is like trying to drive a dragster on a busy city street with stop and go traffic.
You have a Fox .40 engine. it will work fine as a diesel.
Pictures can be a problem. You need to make sure the pictures are saved as a JPG or JPEG image format. Resize the pics to 640x480 as many people can't view them if they are larger and most forums will block images that are too big as well. Then you upload the pics to a photo service such as Photobucket for example. Next copy the link from the photo service and use the picture icon in the toolbar above (insert image). Then the pics will appear in the message you are posting. I think RCU has a minimum number of posts you have to make before you can upload posts to RCU.

OK, I typically upload my pics to my account on PhotoBucket and then copy the URL link from there to use here in this forum.
I think as a new member you are considered on probation for 100 posts or so, maybe even a time period too. Then you can upload up to 100 photos into the photo gallery. I think they restrict it like that to block the spammers and the trolls that are constantly trying to screw up things.
I had that same problem a long time ago, when I first signed up too.

I have read about high timed MVVS engines that have diesel heads on them and they work fine in control line stunt models.
Is it assumed that this engine is to be used in an RC model?

Why wouldn't a quick racing engine work with a diesel head?

I have a Parra 2.5cc AAC diesel engine and it does run as good as my glow 2.5cc engines, maybe better than some too. So yeah one can get a diesel to run as fast if not faster than some other glow engines. I have a MVVS 2.5cc diesel as well, but I havent' run it yet.

Hey Earl, on the other end of the suck, squeeze, bang and blow cycles a lot of fuel would simply blow away in the wind. My Fitzpatrick .61 is timed for 17,000 rpm, while it will run as a Diesel it requires a lot of fuel and a small prop. I sleeved the carb to try to reduce the blow back but it just limited the performance instead. The head by AJC is a work of art looking nearly identical to the glow head.

You have a standard big case 40 which is just like the 45 but with a smaller piston. runs great with a 12 X 6 at about 9 to 10,000 Rpm. If you need any further help just give us a call. 615-625-3778

Funny! I remember asking Bob Davis about a diesel head for the Fox .40 at an R/C show in Maryland years ago and he said the bottom end couldn't handle it. So I made my own. Runs great and is on a stick trainer for the nephew.

Max, I know why Bob said that, I bought a new crankshaft for a big case .40 about 10 years ago and they sent me the crank for a small case .40, the big end rod bearing had about 1/16th" clearance of more. The crankpin on the crank they sent me was tiny by comparison.

The small case Fox .40 would not work good as a diesel because the crankshaft is too small, especially the crankpin. But the large case .40 would work good as it has a much stronger and larger crankshaft in it. The large case .40 engines were also made in the .45, .46 and bigger .50 sizes too.
